I'm looking for recommendations for good hotels in Cancun. I was thinking about trying an all-inclusive but I can't decide. We've been once and stayed at the Ritz, club level. It was amazing but my dh's company paid and I don't think we can swing it! So, I'm hoping for some help! Thanks!

With or without kids? I've been there a few times. I've stayed all inclusive at The Royal Solaris and The Crown Paradise Club. Just keep in mind 4 stars in Cancun is not 4 stars in the US. RS was nice and I read up on it before I went. I knew what type of room I wanted (view wise) and asked ahead of time. Some adult activities (tequila volleyball, water aerobics, trivia etc. your typical resort fare) and some supervised kids activities.

Tell me more about what you are looking for and I can make some recommendations.

I also stayed at the Royal Solaris. That was in 1991! DH and I went there for our honeymoon. We really enjoyed it there and want to go back again one day. Not necessarily that hotel, but back to Cancun. A friend of mine stayed at the Omni and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if that is still around. Have a great time.

DH & I stayed at the JW Marriott in August 2002. It was the newest hotel at the time. We loved it! I would highly recommend it.

::yes::

I went there in the late 80's with my family. My sister and I were teens and had a blast, I remember it being really beautiful but very hot. lol

I went a long time ago and loved it. We went to Tulum and X (sp) and danced at night, swam the rest of the time, did a little shopping too.

It was a spanish club, with mostly teenage girls and some chaparones. I had a blast.

I was so excited about it all though that I couldn't eat. I tried, but I felt full all the time. I got down to 115 lbs. I lost 10 pounds that week. :eek:

Bigdude-This trip is NO kids:D I would like a room with a balcony that opens on the ocean. Good room service would also be great. We're not drinkers so that doesn't matter.
Thanks for the replies everyone!

I went there 9 or 10 years ago, I don't remember where we stayed. There is alot to do there. We went in April and it was very hot. In the jungle where the pyramid is, it was in the 100's. It was the hottest place I've ever been.

We went there on our honeymoon in 9/95. Stayed at the Omni on the all-inclusive plan. Not sure if it's still like this, but when we went, you could stay there either all-inclusive or not. The all-inclusive was a great deal, and I'm glad we chose it.

And we chose the Omni largely because we wanted to try an all-inclusive, but were concerned that if the food and drinks were awful, our honeymoon would be ruined. We figured the Omni was selling the same food as they were giving with the all-inclusive, so how bad could it be? We needn't have worried; the food was wonderful and so were the activities included in the deal.

Our room was spectacular. Gigantic bed and bathtub. Marble walls and floors. A stone balcony covered with flowering vines that looked out over the Caribbean Sea.

One of these days, we're going back to Cancun with our son, and I think we'd like to try the family Palace. There is a number of "Palaces" e.g., the Moon Palace, the Sun Palace, the Cancun Palace, etc. Can't remember which Palace is geared to families, but that's the one we'll pick.

There is one Palace specifically for couples. Try a 'net search on "Moon Palace" and you'll find it.

Xcaret was our favorite day trip while we were there. It's a natural water park. Its lazy river ride flows through real caves. Awesome!
