Disney acquires Disney Stores
May 2, 2008

Disney has finalized the buy back of the Disney Stores from Children's Place.

The terms include the acquisition of approximately 220 stores and the closure of 98 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

James D. Fielding was appointed as president of Disney Stores Worldwide.

Oh aren't you SOOOOOOOO Happy???? :worship:

That is great news. I have been pretty disappointed with the merchandise carried by that store the last several years.

No, I'm not so happy - ours is one of the ones that they are closing! I would rather have a Disney store owned by someone else than no Disney store at all!

Well that makes sense now. I have been wondering for a while why the merchandise was less thtan 'magical'. The parks place such a premium on detail, and yet in the stores, the merchandise is often sub par...check out the hit and miss faces on the toys, and a high likelihood of falling to pieces. Now I know why!

How do you know what stores are closing? We only have two in our state! Is Washington on the hit list?

It's great that they are taking the stores back but alas, our local store is closing down. It seems that once all closures are completed, the next closest store to me will be about 100 miles away. Guess I won't be doing much shopping with The Disney Store anymore.

Personally I'd be happy if they closed our local store... it used to be a gorgeous store - as they all once were - then they relocated to a different spot in the mall - half the size with basic white walls and extrememly minimal decor - it feels like K-Mart. I miss the glory days of the Disney Store, and certainly hope that sales will rebound enough to get some decent Disney theming back into our local store. Once they sold off to CP - we stopped shopping there...hopefully some new life can be breathed back into it!

I'm really glad that they will be buying them back. But....I will sorely miss the newer-style clothes they had for kids. When Children's Place bought The Disney Store, they had a much larger selection of children's clothes, which is typically what I buy there. There was suddenly a wide variety of jeans for kids, and they all had adjustable waists! Very cool, for my skinny little kids.

I actually worked for The Disney Store for Christmas 2005 and 2006. I was going to be sticking around after 2006, but they closed the store. Hoop (The Children's Place) was a good company to work for, and I loved all the new children's stuff they put out for Disney.

But, it will be GREAT to have the "real" Disney back. I remember I would buy all my jammies there, but when TCP took over, they stopped carrying the jammies I liked. (They are still in the parks, so maybe they will be back now)

I hope that they will continue to have such cute clothes for kids, while bringing back all the "real" Disney stuff that we all love. I remember driving up to the nearest Disney store, about 40 miles away, not long ago. After I left, I realized that I didn't even see one light chaser in the whole store. I thought that was weird.

So, I am thrilled they will be reaquired by Disney. But I hope some moms will join me in crossing fingers for the continuation of totally cute, adjustable waist, Disney-themed denim jeans for kids!!!

I work at my local Disney Store, unfortunately for one of the ones closing, but hopefully will be transferring to another soon afterward! :goodvibes

There are actually 89 stores closing, not 98, according to my list at the store anyways. It was originally going to be upto 112, but, thankfully, they kept some (although still not mine).

Another poster on here mentioned how they miss the look of the old stores, I agree, and, my closing store happens to still be one of "the old ones" with all the animation.

I so hope that going back to Disney means good things, Disney originally sold us for a reason, they didnt want us, and quit putting money into the stores. Ex, our animation would break, they never fixed it, but TCP never fixed the broken animation as well. I hope things will get better. (My discounts sure will!!)

For the person who was wondering that lives in WA, I dont know off the top of my head which ones are closing (except my immeadiate are: SF Bay in NorCal) let me know which are your stores and I can check on Tuesday when I go in again. I do know 1 for sure in WA is closing, but dont remember which one. You can always call your local store and ask which ones are closing.

Feel free to PM me if any more questions, even regarding sales, etc!! I would be more than happy to answer any questions!

HTH!

I'm not sure about the ones in the states, but the one i have here in vancouver, B.C isn't closing..... I didn't find it to bad, but i found that they sound all the same stuff as on disneyshopping.com ...... I would like if they got some new and fun stuff, i've been pretty disapointed the last few times i went in!

I hope this is good news. I used to shop there a lot and buy music boxes and snowglobes and figurines. But for the passed several years all they've had is clothes! :confused3 I am hoping they will go back to the way they were before.

This the prototype for the New Disney Stores.

here is a pic of the New Disney Store in Manchester, England.

Wow, thanks for the pictures :thumbsup2 I am one of those shoppers that too loved the 'old' Disney Store. When I'd walk into the new one, it just felt like a toy store to me. Nothing real spectacular, so we stopped shopping there. After seeing these pictures, it definitely will make me want to go back ;)

I talked to my friend, also manager of my local Disney Store, and she said that now they get 35% off at the parks. WHY DID I QUIT? Oh yeah, it's crazy working there during Christmas! One of the things I noticed is that they are bringing the trading pins into the stores (not sure if it was always there) AND now I get 15% off at the Disney Store for being an APH! I just might go back to work there in the summer. I need the extra cash (which I hopefully won't use on their products! :lmao:)

I know that they just closed down one of the stores near me -- I hope they keep the one here!

Dizneekrazee, is the Fairfield store closing??????????

Does anyone know if there is a list of stores that are closing?
We have one in SunValley Maill in Concord and I believe it is the only one left in the Eastern SF Bay Area? I am hoping they don't shut it down! :sad2:
