"wholesome" television programming

We have a 5 yr old and I'm a stickler for what I let him watch but not quite like I was when he was younger.

This is what we allow him to watch and it's because he likes it:

Tom & Jerry
Curious George
Martha Speaks
Arthur
Clifford the Big Red Dog
Lilo & Stitch
Full House

He occasionally watches the Smurfs and the Jetsons on CN. We try to allow him to watch things that are fun but not completely stupid. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry myself and it's so much fun to watch it with him because it's amazing how many episodes you remember.

PBS and Discovery Channel (and Animal Planet) are favs here. I loathe Disney's programming for kids older than 5,ugg. Such crap.

I think PBS will be your best bet, we also watch Playhouse Disney and NickJr. I am also doing my best to keep away from the "tween" stuff, and will milk all the years I can from these channels. I know that when there are great age differences between siblings that this can be difficult as it is harder to monitor what the younger kids are watching.

We also do movies...they're relatively safe as most parents screen them before.
