FTC is opposing the merger. Whole Foods and Wild Oats are working together to try to get FTC approval - so it's not a hostile takeover. We have a great Wild Oats here as well as two Trader Joes and a Whole Foods. I'll be sad to see Wild Oats go-or maybe they will stay open and become a smaller Whole Foods location. It's closer to us so that would be great. Is someone trying to block the purchase? I thought it was done.
It's purely personal with me as I'd love to have a better store here in Little Rock - no matter what the name. Wild Oats bought a local store here a few years ago and unfortunately has run it into the ground. Half the shelves are not even stocked! I don't understand it - the Wild Oats store in Boulder, CO is fabulous.
I LOVE Trader Joe's - had that in CA very close to my house. At that time Whole Foods was about 15 miles away.
I'm actually pretty happy with the Fresh Market as mostly I just buy produce, cheese, and meat. I'd like the option of fresh soups and salads, etc. as there are just two of us.

A Bear Stearns analyst said Thursday he is now more convinced that the Federal Trade Commission could prevail in stopping organic supermarket chain Whole Foods Market Inc. from buying its smaller rival Wild Oats Inc.
After reading an FTC filing that is part of a preliminary injunction to stop the $565 million deal, analyst Robert Summers said "we believe the FTC case against the merger appears solid and are now leaning more toward the FTC prevailing in its injunction."
The filing, made public Tuesday on the agency's Web site, is the latest salvo in an FTC attempt to block the acquisition on antitrust grounds, saying the sale would raise prices for consumers by consolidating too much power in one company.
