Whole milk

I'm going to start this off by saying we had fantastic meals on our trip last week. No duds.

Our TS were: Boathouse, CRT, Via Napoli, BOG, H&V, Boma.

Our QS were: Columbia Harbour House, Yak & Yeti Local Cafes, Pecos Bill's, Mexico @ WS.

Now, I definitely assumed this, but I figured since whole milk is generally recommended for toddlers that I would be able to find it easily at WDW. After a couple days of asking and always getting a no, I just stopped asking. In fact, when I asked our CRT server, he even said "I have no idea why we don't, but we don't."

Thankfully I brought formula to the parks as backup, and we stayed at Kidani so we had a fridge and DD could have whole milk at night and in the morning, but I was truly surprised that I couldn't find it anywhere.

Did I just not look hard enough or is whole milk really that hard to find at WDW? I'm not complaining, I'm just truly surprised!

I have no idea about DW, but I have the hardest time finding whole milk anywhere other than a grocery store. I just feed my toddler whatever is available and give her whole milk when I can.

We were able to get it at the resort but had a very hard time locating it in the parks. We asked and were told that it was part of their healthy kids campaign and when I asked why that wasn't a parental choice the only response we got was a blank stare.

Because toddlers get so much fat from other sources, the older recommendation that all one-year-olds get whole (about 3.25-4%) milk and that two-year-olds get 2% reduced-fat milk has changed. Now a determination may be made based on percentile charts with 2% milk being recommended for many more children.

I don't think it's just Disney though. Whenever we go out to eat at restaurants at home they never have whole milk either. I guess I just don't expect it when we go out anymore because it's never an option. I just give them what they have a go back to whole milk at home.

Restaurants are not going to carry every choice, but will carry the most popular choices. Whole milk most likely won't sell well enough on its own for them to believe there is a benefit for THEM to carry it. It's simply business logic and a smart choice.

As for your kids, the amount of time of a trip without whole milk is not going to cause any harm what so ever.

Whole milk is still the top selling type of milk so it's not a popularity or sales issue.

Interesting....thank you for the info on what's available. Note to self...grab a pint at the supermarket...

Given that lactose (ie sugar) is actually the biggest calorie contributor I don't get the point of the other versions, so when I do consume milk (which is WAY less than I used to I tend to consume "whole" milk.

Can you point this out to me? The latest information I can find personally were a study in based on 2007-2008 numbers which showed that 2% milk is the type drunk most my children and adolescents and that in 2014, 2% milk was the highest selling milk category.

Note: this was in the US.

It's not the calories, it's the actual fats. Young kids' brains are still growing and need the fats to build healthy nerve tissue. Older kids and adults don't need it, and excess fat might lead to clogged arteries and heart attacks, thus the recommendations for lower-fat milk for them.

I also had a very hard time finding whole milk in WDW, there were a handful of counterservice locations that had it. I was really surprised given how many people with kids visit. He pretty much got lowfat milk during the trip but one week won't hurt anything.

They're actually disproved the whole milk fats are bad rubbish which stopped people from eating butter and got them eating toxic vegetable oil...

Starbucks. Always in a pinch, we can count on them for a tall whole milk. Yeah its $2.25 but it gets us through the day whenever we are at Disneyland longer than expected.

Yep. Starbucks! My family will always chose whole milk over any other type. And as other poster said, eating fats does not cause cholesterol to accumulate in blood - that's been disproved. Now, there is the whole argument about how cow's milk is actually produced for baby cows, not humans, but that's off topic

Wow, duh! We were in Starbucks daily on this trip. Never coincided with DD's feeding time though. Didn't think of that in a pinch. I feel so dumb now! I can't believe I didn't put that together. Ha ha ha.

I have found it in one or two spots, but I can't recall where it was. It wasn't in a restaurant, but in a refrigerated case maybe at a resort. I was thinking possibly Sunshine Seasons as well.

My kids are all pretty tiny so even my oldest drinks whole milk still at 7 years old. It won't hurt to go down to 2% for the week we are on vacation, but we do order a carton for the room so he can still have it in the morning. My twins only drink Almond milk and I never did find that anywhere so we bring it with us.

Thank you to you and OP! I hadn't even thought about this dilemma!
