I thought I read in a review somewhere that someone was unhappy with the whole lobster at Narcoossee's, but I can't remember why . . . or where I read it! Yes, my memory is quickly fading!

So, for those of you who ordered the whole lobster, how was it? Any pictures floating around out there? Thanks!

You aren't imagining things! Last week a poster let everyone know that the Whole Maine Lobster is not the whole Lobster. You get the claws and the tail filled with meat and the shell of the body and the head (but no meat)

*scratches head* Now, I'm not a big lobster eater, but aren't the claws and tail primarily where you want the meat from? Is the head/body something that can't be missed?

Some people like the green stuff in the head and body. Not me, but this person did. I forgot what it's called, but they like sucking it out.

Ew. Isn't that the digestive system? I'll pass! :lmao:

Ew, I was more interested in hearing about the quality of the lobster and how well it was cooked. I wouldn't eat anything other than the tail anyway. Now I think I shouldn't have asked this question . . . ewwww!

Maybe I'll just stick with the surf 'n turf so I only have the tail!

Oh you're fine! They take all of the 'gross' stuff out of the lobster at Narcoosee's.

The lobster was fine and DO get the lobster - I had it on my birthday in October and the claws were better than the tail!!! I actually ended up sharing some of the claw meat with my family (who got the surf and turf) because they missed out on the best part of the lobster for the night.

I just mentioned the other ickier (to me) stuff because you asked about the post from last week and I happened to remember the post and the posters problem with the lobster.

All you get with the whole Maine lobster is the tail, the claws and a nice clean shell where the gross stuff used to be (head and body are shell only - and you can probably ask them to leave it behind if you don't want it)

The green stuff is called "tomalley" and it is indeed the lobster's digestive system. My grandfather who passed away this past November at age 98 loved the stuff spead on crackers!

As a Mainer who loves an occassional lobster, one can find quite a bit of meat in the body of the lobster. If you don't mind picking for it (which I don't. Heck if I have to spend $$$$ on my lobster dinner I am going to get all the meat out of it I can. There is also meat in the legs. We always eat the meat out of the legs. Gee half the fun is sucking the meat out of those little legs lol! Having always had a WHOLE whole Maine lobster, I do have to say I would be startled and dismayed that I got an empty body on my plate and just the claws and tail.

I thought it was delicious! Much better than the surf & turf I had the time before.

We had the whole maine lobster last may on the DDP. Both of us found it tough and obviously overcooked. In general Narcoosees was a dissapointment that started with the poor service we had.

My wife and I had this on the DDP in Dec06 and thought it was just ok...we were glad we were not paying the $55 or so OOP for it...a tad overcooked and certainly not melt-in-your mouth. The side dishes were nothing that kept our attention either.

Don't eat lobsters that have more frequent flyer miles than you do. :goodvibes

I have had it the past two years only because we were on the dining plan. The first year it was undercooked and not very good. Last year it was done just right and yes I like the gross part but can live without it:lmao:

I was the poster that had the problem with the lobster. Other than only getting the claws and the tail, it was perfectly cooked. There is more to the middle than the tomally and roe, you can also suck out the meat from the legs and there is a bunch of meat in the middle section that can be easily missed.

If you only eat the tail, get the surf and turf, but the claw meat is just as good as the tail.

We have found the lobster quality at Narcoosee's to be variable. Most of the time they are good. A couple of times we've noticed that they were smaller than 2 pounds and rather tough. I guess it just depends on the shipment.

I have a friend that loves the whole lobster (and I mean the whole lobster!). She used to have to call and order it that way a day or two in advance because they prepped the lobsters in advance. Last August, she simply requested the whole lobster when she ordered. They accommodated her request.

The lobster you get with the surf and turf is not a Maine lobster. It's something else. Australian lobster tail perhaps?

That's why we never get the surf and turf. We stick with the Maine lobster!
