Just doing research on Polynesian... and google gave me Tikiman's site..... It says there's extensive things that need to be done to save the Poly starting next year! Is this site normally accurate?

Yes. I've read the same reports, but I found it hard to believe they'll tear down the whole thing. I'm sure they'll find a way to fix the issue without losing the resort. At least that's what I've let myself believe because I love :lovestruc the Poly and don't want the World without it. ;)

Tikiman usually has the correct scoop on all things Polynesian. He's been right on everything he's said so far so I'd say chances are he's right again. I need to go to his website and find out the latest. The Poly could use a bit of a redo IMHO. Thanks for the update.

If that's the case, are they letting people book for 2013??? It let me price out a trip in June for 2013 this morning.... :crazy2:

Hope it's done by Oct 2014... yes, @notaclue... I was hoping for a refurb.... didn't expect THIS! :upsidedow The World is really going through some major changes!

Aww man, this is disheartening :(. I was going to book my June 2013 package this week and since it's my 20th anniversary we were going to do Polynesian instead of a mod. I still want to book but sure don't want to go if there's a ton of renovations going on at that time. Now if they will wait until after I go that would be great :).

This .... its our 10 year anniversary so for 2013 we were booking Poly as a treat to ourselves. I'll be so sad if we can't stay there :(

think you will be able to still stay there - but there might be construction going on near you.

don't know for sure. but closing the entire Polyn would cost disney alot of money.

It is definitely one of the most popular WDW resorts.

I just "spoke" to someone using the chat feature on disney's web page and he said that it wouldn't affect the rooms but would affect the main area. Isn't that a rather large area of the resort?

yes - but they would just have signs telling you where to check in - and they were planning on using the outside restuarant - the one near Neverland kids club.

think the only QS would still have to be in the main building?

the big problem would be monorail access - since this is where that is also.

I wouldn't pay Poly prices (even at a discount in the off-season) if the main area of the resort (which I interpret as GCH and Volcano Pool area) is down. I love the location and theming of the Poly, but at those prices, I want the whole resort experience (including Monorail access).

One of the things that frustrates me about Disney is that they often wait until the 11th hour to announce these things (often well past guests' 45 day mark). Such recently happened with construction at the GF (on July 10, Disney announced some construction-related closings, including closing Citricos for about 10 days later this month - this is one of our "must do" ADRs and if I had a trip planned for that week, I'd be bummed that they waited to announce this with only a couple weeks notice).

We're contemplating a Poly stay in December and are selfishly hoping that, for the rest of this year, the only work will be the completion of a hot tub addition before we arrive. On the flip side, if Disney were to announce that either the Volcano Pool and/or GCH were down in December, we'd be seriously disappointed, especially if they waited until fall to announce this.

FWIW, I believe Tikiman to be a pretty legitimate source for all things Poly. His predictions seem to ultimately happen, it's just that he's often left to speculate about timing (because Disney is so secretive about timing and often changes their plans between when a rumor is started and when they make their official announcement).

I just stayed at Aulani in March and I would be all for them tearing the current Poly and doing something more "Aulani"-like- the resort is AMAZING. I feel like the current Poly is kind of dated and would prefer a more timeless Hawaii feel than some dark 1970's interpretation of Hawaii.
Don't get me wrong- it is still the best tropical resort in the continental US, and I love Poly, but I would not object to them modernizing the resort and making it an inside-corridor resort like the Epoct resort area hotels.

Honestly I think it would be great if they did a demo and a rebuild - I think the Poly is in great need of a remodel - living in Hawaii for 3 years may have spoiled me - but right now the Poly screams "Brady Bunch House" to me. Back in 2000 most resorts in Hawaii were much more appealing to me than what the Poly is now. I think it is a good call personally. I am glad to see Disney would consider it and keep things up.

As it is the Poly is definitely not up there on my list of places to stay but it sure might be if they redo it!

Oh man, I'd love to try Aulani... good point though I wonder if that's what they'll be trying to get at.... Funny thing is when I first saw the concept art for Aulani, I thought that's what they were doing- reconstructing the Poly. And before I realized the "sentimentality" of the Poly, I thought thank heavens they're tearing it down! I seriously thought the Poly was the ugliest resort Disney had. :duck:

Off topic... when our family first looked at a map of the Magic Kingdom we thought it was funny that the other princesses had no homes... a few years later... Fantasyland Expansion. And when we first saw Pop Century (half century) was never finished we had the funny feeling that it was never going to be finished.... Disney has to have our house bugged... :listen:

I realize Disney changes things all the time and resorts have been torn down before.... but wow... Poly is popular and for many "home" for over 40 years!

My silly goal is to stay at every WDW resort property at least once. . . and I'd hope to be able get into the "old" Poly before it's gone if this is the case! But, I agree - it'd be awesome to see something like Aulani at the World. Aulani actually is how I imagined "old" Hawaii than pretty much anything in Waikiki. . . but I digress. . .
