..an employee who fell asleep on the job OR the employee (and co worker) who took a picture of said sleeping employee and showed it to everyone in the company (including the president) because he thought it was funny? :rolleyes1 I thought I'd let you all decide:headache:

I'd be more mad at the employee who fell asleep. The fact that the president was made aware would force me to take stronger (and faster) action than I might otherwise take. Of course, the other employee would feel my wrath, also.

I would be angry with the person (I use that word lightly) that took the picture. You don't know the other person. There may be a health issue like sleep apnea or something else. I use to work with a guy that would take a power nap at his desk for 15 mins. at lunch every day.

I would be more mad at the picture taker. The one who fell asleep may have stuff going on at home or health issues.

If an employee is having such problems that cause them to fall asleep while they are supposed to be working, they need to stay home.

I guess who I'd me mad at would depend on who I was. If I was the President, I'd be mad at the sleeping employee, if I was the sleeping employee I'd be mad at the picture taker. If I was just another person in the office, I would just be glad I wasn't involved at all :thumbsup2

the person that was sleeping. He started it. The other just took advantage of the opportunity. Maybe they ahd seen them doing this before and finally decided to elt the rest of the company know but needed proof.

It depends. If this is the first time the sleeping person has fallen asleep at work, I would be more upset with the picture taker. However, if the sleeping person has made a habit of sleeping on the job then I wouldn't be at all unhappy with the picture taker, and I would be very upset with the sleeper.

There is an employee here, who until recently, had, for years, a foldout "bed" under their desk, which they used often during work hours. They were finally told to get rid of it. Now they just sleep at their desk, that is, when they are there and aren't out shopping. They snore sometimes too.

I understand that a person may have health issues but where do you draw the line?

In appropriate to fall asleep at work - but more importantly I think the picture taker is childish and not professional...not qualities I would particularily want in an employee. The 'sleeper' should have a talking to by mgmt, but so should the picture taker - sounds pretty high-school to me!

I wouldn't be mad at either. I've had little naps at work and I've had the other guys in the department laugh or take a picture and I've done the same with them. I'm the Information Systems Coordinator so I've even posted pics on the Intranet. We are all good sports.

Our COO has walked in while one of us was taking a little break and dozed off. We all work hard and our executives know it so it isn't like they will write us up of fire us for it. We work with them closely everyday so they know us.

The photographer, of course. Maybe the sleeper had a good reason for being so sleepy. The photographer was rude and immature.

If the picture taker hadn't shown the president and higher up's, I'd be more upset with the sleeper. Take the picture, show the friends, have a good laugh, but not go higher up. That was too much.

Was the sleeper on the clock and not on a break? Is there an informal allowance of sleeping when it is slow?

If the answer is no, then I'd totally take the picture and show it to everyone. Perhaps this is on-going and the sleepy employee needs medical help or they are simply annoying other workers by being a slacker.

But. If this situation is such that the immediate supervisor knows it is slow or if the employee was on a break, then the photographer is in the wrong.

At my last job, we had a spare office with a couch. If we were feeling ill or had a headache, we were allowed to sprawl out and rest. Or, even if it was horribly slow, we could nap for a half-hour or so with permission from the boss.

Hey Cantw8, when are you going to tell us which employee you are?

BOTH equally. The sleeper

should keep his naps for home AND the photgrapher

should leave his camera home. JMHO.

I'd be more angry with the picture taker. For whatever reason, the sleeping employee had an involuntary response to a physical issue (he/she fell asleep). Are we going to start taking pictures of people sneezing and running around showing those off, too? The picture taker, OTOH, was behaving immaturely and unprofessionally.

While the sleeper couldn't control his/her immediate reaction to body stimulous, the photographer obviously could have (and should have) controlled his/her behavior. Especially in an office setting.

I'm not going to weigh in on why the sleeper was sleeping because I don't have enough information. If this is about behavior then IMO the intentional behavior carries more responsibility for consequences than the unintentional.

If there are no issues with the sleeping employees work, I wouldn't be mad at either, no need to take everything so seriously. In many cultures its perfectly acceptable to take short power naps at work. Its been shown that it actually improves productivity.

I'm going to have to agree with Carly above. There's no reason to take a photo of someone who's sleeping and show it around to everyone other than stupidity or just plain ol' rottenness (trying to get sleeper fired to get his/her job?). Who knows what kind of home or health situation he/she might have?

And regarding the comment that the sleeper should just stay home; obviously that's not always going to be an option. I know I couldn't afford to stay home just because I was tired, I need my paycheck! And if I was sneaking in a nap on my 15 minute break and someone thought it was funny to snap a photo and show it around, you BET I'd be

It's really hard to say how I'd feel about that situation, not knowing more details.
