Who was the first person to register a screen name on the DIS? Just curious if anyone knows...

(and no, Pete's mom or something doesn't count- I mean the first person who John and Pete did not know who just signed up).

I did find an old version of the boards back from 2000.

And here is what looks like the first look at the current boards.

Great question!!! I would love to know the history of this wonderful community!

Love the "currently active users"

Can you imagine how that would look now? It would take forever to scroll thru the "who's online" list!

That is cool how you can see the forums from back then. I wonder if the first question was "what is something special we can do for a birthday in the park?"

;) I can't laugh, my first question was about birthdays too.

Forum 41 must still be the "Board host only" board, hmmmm.

Looks like "who's online" has been disabled by the Webmasters.

The only ones I recognize immediately were Dagny, CamColt and Uncleromulus.
I didn't post much back then. ;)

It would actually be pretty easy to answer, assuming that the original data from the DB was not lost.

Most any forum has a creation date for each account... most forums you can view members on, but it appears disabled here.

The site Admin or possibly a MOD could look it up, I'm sure.

I will bet that Bob was close to No. 1. I have been an avid follower, if not a frequent poster, since before Aug. 1999. There were a couple of times before that time that the number of posts were lost when the boards were updated as I recall.

I also recall from the early days Pete and John posting about OKW DVC.

The DIS was created back in 1997 by Pete. We've had a couple of major reconstructions of the DIS, and at least one huge crash (maybe two? Alex would know) since its inception.

When I first came to the boards they had that old linear look

I think there was one board when it started. When I came along I think there were just a few. :)

Bob was Wilderness back in those days, and had a sock puppet named Harold who used to tell stories (if I remember correctly).

The Disneyland board wasn't born until either late 1999 or beginning of 2000, and it took days for posts to move to page 2.

We also had a riddle board, and got cyber twinkies for guessing the right answer.

It was fun looking at those online guests... some of them aren't here, but we still keep in touch via FB.

Ah... the stories Pete & Alex could tell. :upsidedow

I'm not a frequent posting but I've been around a long time and am now curious as well about who it or they will be.

DIS Investigations on the scene again... :)

Typically User IDs (UIDs) are assigned sequentially, starting at some arbitrary value.

Pete's UID on the system appears to be 1721. His "Join Date" is 06-01-1997.

Baloo is 1719, with a join date of 04-21-2000.

There are no single digit UIDs, but some random checks show that there is a UID of 500 and 1001 - but they have join dates AFTER Baloo.

So this tells me that at least to start the UID allocation was NOT sequential, at least when the current board incarnation came about. It could have been an import of users from a previous version, and the order was arbitrary based on how they were exported from the old system.

Which means unless WebmasterAlex gives me access to the database, I've got nothing :)

I don't know who the first to post was, but I believe I was one of the first few visitors to this site. I was here in 1997 lurking, not posting. I wish I did post back in 1997, but I was just visiting the DIS for information and not interacting. I think I was a bit timid about posting on the Internet.
Before 1997 finding information about Walt Disney World on the Internet was limited. When the DIS came along it really helped bring a lot of knowledge together. A place where we could share our experiences at WDW. It wasn't a place like you see today where everyone shares tips, tricks, ideas, news, etc. It evolved into that later. The DIS was more of a place where you'd talk about what you saw at WDW and bounce ideas off of other posters. At least that's how I saw it.
