Who Wants To Try a DIS-Meet At Gulf State Park In May-June 2016?

And if anyone is interested here is the Eagle family. I tried to take a phone pic through the binoculars. Since the wife's camera did not work.

I did tack a power strip into the Aliner at the dinette. The existing plug was down between the knees and was a little cumbersome when the dinette was made out into a bed.
At the present moment i am unwelcome in my own home. For those of you with daughters, it is high school beauty walk night. Thank goodness it is limited to seniors only (still over 100 girls). DD and DW are doing the hair, nails, and makeup now and i am in hiding.

Take your kids camping while you still can.

Bama Ed

Ed, funny you should mention the the beauty night. It was the Middle Schools night as well here. Thankfully, the oldest takes after her mother so she put on a good show.

Didn't grab the most beautiful (judges obviously blind), but she got 2nd place. Kid to her left has already been informed I own a lot of guns and plenty of land to hide the bodies.

Okay, proud dad off topic moment over with...:D

Good spot on the pictures there Flame. Yeah, they have cut out some more underbrush. Glad to see the non-native stuff gone, but being backed right up to the main road with barely a small pine tree between me and the traffic is a little annoying. Oh well...

Flametamr- Thanks for the pics. The sites look great. Mine might have some vegatation closer than I'd want at the back, but it looks like I should fit without any issues.

Tiggerdad- Cute daughter. The beauty night must be a southern thing. Never heard of it before. As long as the kids have a good time... And from the smile on the kids face, it's a good thing you own firearms. :-) I used to make that same look when I was his age.

Hey J, You may be happier in site 74. That one as I showed is clean all the way at the rear. But I am sure you will fit either way. Your choice of course. Y'all are welcome for the pictures. It was no trouble at all. We combined missions and did a little bike riding too.

Flame thanks for the pics. Looks like I have a little privacy which I was looking for. Yeti, Barky Butt, barks at everything. In fact yesterday he was just laying outside with Mallory and he was barking. If something was there mal would have barked to. He just barks to hear himself. Very annoying but he is a senior citizen so gets away with a bit.

Tiggerdad, great pics of the daughter. I think it is easier to have dogs.

Yes garneska your spot is actually very private for that area. Hopefully they don't clean everything out before our trip. Tiggerdad you got the same problems I do. The curse of the beautiful daughters. My angel is 10 and growing up way to fast. Having a law enforcement background I tend to collect weapons. My latest retirement gift to myself (AR-15) will certainly scare off any undesirables. I am lucky she is a big tomboy for now. I had to practically beg her to wear Mickey Ears this year. In 2013 we had to bargain to get her in costume to go to MNSSHP. She agreed if she got to be dead Alice Halloween night at the Fort.

Those are great pics flame. Sweet before and scary after. I think it was a great costume.

She walked around all night trick or treating asking people Have you seen my bunny. Some people got it.

Well I ran into a good news/bad news situation today.

Bad News: Gulf State Park is freakin' full this coming weekend (500 sites). I called down there today to reserve a site for the weekend thinking "Hey, it's February - it won't be busy". Boy was I wrong. I know the snow birds are allotted over 400 sites (money maker for Gulf) but I thought I would snag one of the remaining 100 sites. The lady who was unlucky enough to get my call told me many snow birds have family/friends come to visit them at Gulf and they are NEARLY FULL from now till end of March (when monthly snow bird rates expire).

Good News: I'm still going to Gulf Shores this weekend but staying someplace else in my Aliner. One page 1 of this thread WestBeachBum our poster mentioned Gulf Breeze RV Resort where he summers. Well I got the last freakin' spot for this weekend at Gulf Breeze (it's just north of the Intracoastal Waterway on Hwy 59) but at least I am in. They supposedly have good wifi.

So I am taking a day's vacation, getting down to Gulf Shores around noon on Friday, and will go from there. Weather looks very nice for February (sunny, 60s/40s) with low winds.

I am a little disappointed but looking forward to trying a new place.

Bama Ed

PS - Been going to Gulf Shores for nearly 40 years so any time I am there it's good.

Yes GSP was packed. My wife and I both noticed it when we visited. We have never seen it so fill this time of year. Unfortunately it's like the Fort and keeps getting more popular. Two years ago you could just drive up and get a site at the park. It's getting difficult now without reserving ahead.

That's what I had been counting on, Flametamr. My thoughts were just like yours. Oh well, not no more...

We love Gulf Breeze. The wifi is slow though, but all I do is connect to it with my iPad to check my email. The bath houses are kept clean. We'll be riding through Sunday afternoon scouting spots for this spring. Maybe we'll run into you. If you have any questions I will be happy to help. We are only 30 minutes away. The Seafood Festival at the Wharf is Saturday. You should go check it out.

Bama_Ed, I though they held back a few reservations for drive ups ? There is also the small chance of a cancellation. We have gone in the past and decided to extend. We had to go to the office by 11 each day to check but it always worked out. Maybe things are changing now that it's packed and they are reserving individual sites. Sorry Bro.

We love GSP too, we used to stay for several weekends during the summer. But we decided to keep the camper down there from April until after Labor Day. GSP doesn't allow that.

Flametamr, the lady who answered my call said nothing about holding back some sites for drive-ups. Coming as far as I will to get there, I'd rather not try to cut it close. If it was a slow time at Gulf, I would just drive up (and have in the past). Plus I won't be at the site very much anyway.

Bum, I won't be around long on Sunday morning. We are watching our daughter at an event at a high school north of Pensacola and need to get back to Birmingham that morning before she does. And slow WIFI is better than no WIFI - as long as I can check email, the DIS, and my college football sites, I'm happy.

Bama Ed

PS - but if you see a gray Aliner there, that's me.

Hey Ed I'm going home today, I will have to go and sit beside the highway with my DIS sign on display and wave as you pass through my part of the state!

Hey I can run to the overpass behind my house and hold up my sign too. It will be the one between Theodore Dawes and Hwy 90. :teacher:
