I posted this on the crafty board but thought maybe you brides might be able to help to!!

Okay here's what I have so far. For our wedding we are doing a "Disney Wishes" theme. I bought snowglobes to represent a different movie for each table. To fit the theme, I want to somehow represent each character's "wish" as part of the centerpiece.

So here's what I have so far. My friend and I went to Michaels the other day trying to figure out something to actually put the snowglobes on but couldn't really decide on something because all the snowglobes' bases are different shapes and sizes. After walking around for a while, we started noticing all the empty boxes. They must have just gotten in a shipment and were stocking the shelves and that was the solution to our problem! So we asked if we could take some and they said yes! Now we just have to match the snowglobe with the right box. The plan from there is to wrap the boxes in some sort of white craft paper for the snowglobe to sit on. Then I want to have some tulle around the base, sort of in a cloud-like fashion. We also bought star garland to put around the tulle and found wide white ribbon on clearance with the leftover Christmas stuff...

Now here is where I'm stuck!! I want to somehow "write" the wish ON the white ribbon and have it wrap loosely around the base. (ex. Pinocchio's globe would say "I wish someday I could be a real boy.") But I can't for the life of me figure out the best way to do it. I'm not sure I want to (or even CAN) write on the actual ribbon itself. I thought of printing out each word on transparent paper and somehow adhering it to the ribbon but I just don't know.. ANY IDEAS??!?!??!?

you can print it on iron-on paper and it would be transparent on the ribbon

Those are great ideas but I would check with Disney to see if they will set it up. If not you may have to do it or have the bridal party do it and if there is another wedding before yours it will be difficult to get ready and set it up in the allotted time. I have heard mixed reviews on whether or not Disney will set up your own centerpieces.

Vanessa (Figmentfan) use snow globes as centerpieces. Maybe check out her trip report for ideas.

Okay, I'll look into that, thanks!

I appreciate the tip but unfortunately, the wedding is not actually in Disney. We're having a disney-themed home wedding.

If you get large ribbon, you can use vellum paper, and then spray glue it on. We did this and it came out so nicely for my friends baby shower!

Oh thanks! Some people on the creativity board also suggested printing on vellum and then using some sort of "xyron" machine. I never heard of spray glue though! I'll have to look into both!

What about wrapping the cardboard in tin foil and then spray painting it white? I've done this under gingerbread houses for a little bit of a snow effect. It will just be your base... so you want it white, but the tin foil will add to the texture of the item. Then you can put your other items on top???

As for the ribbon... what about a cute tag attached to the ribbon? Like favor tags... something like this: http://www.myownlabels.com/ML119.asp?fnColumns=5&AreaID=7

If you get large enough ribbon, you should be able to buy fabric pens in the right color and write on the ribbon itself without it bleeding too much. That might be the easiest way...another idea is fabric paint (kind of like the puff paint that was hot in the 90's)...

Love the idea! I'm excited to see the test run!

The Xyron Design Runner would probably work for what you need. There is also a machine called an Elsen. It is designed specifically to print on ribbon, but it could be fairly expensive. I've never bothered to check the price.

WOW.......I have no help for you but just wanted to say that I LOVE your ideas! The centerpieces will be great! Wish I had heard about it before my wedding in July! (But it was great anyway!)

Good luck!!

Thanks for all your help everyone! I did a little shopping today and bought the xyron machine at walmart for $20. I also got some puff paint, spray on glue and a few other things. My friend and I are going to practice tomorrow. I will take pics and post how it comes out. I really hope it comes out as nice as I have been envisioning it!

I am so excited! I just got home from my friend's house, where we decided to try out a centerpiece. We very quickly figured out the best way to do everything and put it all together and I am so happy with the results!!

I brought over three globes, the biggest, the smallest and the one I had been writing the wish for in puff paint, just in case we decided to use it. (We did not. Puff paint was too messy and my hand is not that steady!)

So first we had to pick the right box for each globe. We started with Peter Pan and wrapped the box in white craft paper. I don't know how to work tulle but apparently there really IS not right way to work tulle. I grabbed the blue and Jill grabbed the white and we sort of just threw it on and around the box.

We put the globe on and it looked great!!

Now for the part I was worried about - getting words onto ribbon and having it look nice. Puff paint was out of the question so I went with the idea from some Disers to print on Vellum. We picked the font, picked the size, printed and it looked great. I used a crafy scissor to cut a nice edge and ran it through my new favorite thing, the xyron machine!! Worked perfectly!! I was able to stick the printed words right onto the ribbon. THANKS to all who suggested it!

We put the ribbon around the base, added some star garland and a spray in the background and voila! Here are the two finished products!

We ran out of tulle but I would like to have more around the Cinderlla one. Also didn't get to do the smallest one (Poppins) but I am just now I know exactly what to do and how to do it. The rest we will do closer to the wedding and it should be fairly simple.

Now for the dilema of transporting them to the reception hall......

what is an xyron?

That's exactly what I said a few days ago! It's the purple machine in the picture. You put your paper through it and it somehow magically comes out a sticker. You just peel it off and stick it on, in my case, the ribbon.

so cool! I love this idea! Maybe I will try it for my shower centerpieces... where did you get that crazy purple machine, and if you dont mind me asking was it pricey?
If you want to try and get more tulle they usually sell it by the yard for very cheap at fabric stores. (I teach ballet and have to make tutu's for the recital each year for the 4 year olds and I also go there:) )

The crazy purple machine was only $20 at walmart!

I thought about buying tulle by the yard but I'm not sure how I would wrap it around because I did the trial with a small roll. I'll have to look into though, anyway to save money is helpful!

Definitely going to get one of those! Not sure what I need it for yet, but I definitely am going to use it for something. :)

OMG I am in love with them!!!

I cant believe the machine worked!! I want to get one now!!!
