We are waiting on our paperwork for SSR. Our points won't be usable until September. We just returned from a third visit on our annual passes (although the trip was unexpectedly shortened) and we will not be going to WDW for awhile. Maybe not until December '06!

It seems so sad - I'm very excited about being new members, but our next future trip seems so far away.

Anyone else been through this?

Oh yes, in a big way. We bought in August 2002 while were staying at the Poly, and we wanted to take my whole family down so we banked points to do it, and didn't go till August of 2004. Now that the rest of the family have bought points, and we added another 130 last August, we are going twice a year for the forseeable future. :cool1:

We bought into DVC 2001
Had a cruise booked for 2002 - which was cancelled at 22hr notice - couldnt get into any DVC resort for 9 consecutive nights (starting on Thanksgiving) never mind our "home" VWL
rebooked that cruise for 2003
2004 we finally had our first trip "home"

so it took us 3yrs to get "home" - this past Oct I was literally skipping down the sidewalk singing "Im home, Im home, Im home"

returning "home" again this Aug and also trying BCV for the 1st time

We bought in July, but did not visit our home resort to saty until November of the following year. So 16 months between initial purchase and first visit "home" to BWV. It seemed an eternity.

Now we did have a VB stay ion January of that year, so a mere 7 months to first DVC stay, so maybe not all that long to go "home" after all. ;) Certainly very short compared with NewHoliday's ordeal.

I am not sure if this exactly counts, but we bought into DVC in Nov. of 2003 and although we did go to DL last August for 4 nights, we will not be making our first trip "home" until this August 05. It seems like I have been waiting forever, although staying at the GC in DL last year was nice. ;)

We bought SSR in October of 2003, but due to familial obligations and my overwhelming desire to visit Disneyland for the 50th, we won't be going "home" until September 2006. But I'm planning that trip now--hopefully I'll put a down payment on the cruise next month!

Wow...there are some long waits listed in this thread. We bought last September and didn't make it there for our first visit until the last week of February. Seemed like the wait was forever. We purchased an add-on and are returning in June to stay at OKW.

I was beginning to think it was just me.

We purchased while staying at GF in October 2004. We will not be going home until October 2007!!! We had already booked a trip off site at International Drive and Hard Rock Hotel for this May before we bought into DVC. Will use points at DLPR in October 2005 and had also committed to a trip to Las Vegas in May 2006 and will go for a week to GC at DLR the second week using points. Hope to take friends with us finally for two weeks in October 2007.

I really hope it will be worth the wait. :hourglass

Thanks for this thread

We're in the process of buying a resale contract at SSR and will not be going "home" until November 2006!! Seems like forever but the purchase took a big chunk of change out of our vacation fund. And with our youngest starting Kindergarten this year we have to plan around his months off so November was the best we could do!

I too thought it was just us poor unfortunate souls that had to wait a long time for our first trip home. We bought in October 2003 (if memory serves), and our first trip is coming up in April 2005.

But I'm not counting my chickens yet, because I was just diagnosed with pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung - overworked, overstressed, full time working mother of two little boys (age 1 and age 3) living too far from her family!

And if that wasn't enough, the two children are on medicine for Strep and DH is sick as well with what we think is the flu (that's what I had to start). I read another post about someone who had a really bad trip, when their child had Strep at Disney. I was only worried about that, when I got the results of my chest X-ray :sad2:

So, I may end up being the person who has waited the longest for that first trip "home," if we all aren't well soon ;) Though, my doctor and friends have all told me, better to be sick in Florida in the happiest place on Earth than here.

ArRzrbk, :grouphug: I hope you get to go.

I know that I never thought I ever would have strength even to get up from a sofa after I had pneumonia, so hang in there, you WILL get better, and I hope sooner than you think!

I am finally going home next month since buying in December of 2003, so it hasn't been that long (a year and four months) but it has been long enough! I am so excited to be going back next month, I really need this vacation in a big way! Now that I have a second job I have a little more money to take vacations with so I don't have to scrimp and save so much. I was going to take a trip this December but I think that's going to go on hold for the two bedroom adventure this coming February with some family members.
