who to plan rehearsal dinners?

We were a little shocked today to find out that we need to plan our own rehearsal dinner that the wedding planner will not help unless its a catered affair. When we tried to call Disney dinning to book Whispering Cannon we were told that we had to call the restaurant directly. so When we finally called the restaurant we got a message saying they don't answer the phone and to leave a message. when we asked our planner about this she said it can take them up to 2 days to call back.

My only problem with that is I'm sure not only will they be all booked by that time but so will every other restaurant in Disney. has anyone been through this and how did you do it? We are getting married 11/2/12 so we will need to book a place for 11/1/12.

You don't need to contact the restaurant directly to book a large-group reservation. Call 407-939-7700 for Group Dining. Resort restaurants don't book up as quickly as park restaurants, especially if they don't have character meals, so I'm sure you'll be OK.

One thing to know is that they can only guarantee you'll all sit together if you book the first (5:30pm) or last (9pm... ish) reservation. However, most of the time there is no problem seating larger parties together if they dine in between those times. They just have to warn you.

For ours we contacted portobello's directly. However, this was because they are a restaurant that is not owned by disney they are just on disney property and they are also in the same company as fulton's (they are doing our reception). So we contacted them directly told them we did not need a private room we just wanted to be together and we just wanted to order off the normal menu. We have booked portobellos for 12:30pm for 25 people. We also just did this like 2 months ago and our wedding is 2 months away so you should be fine.

Our planner did help a lot with this though because she contacted the manager at fulton's who we were working with who helped us get in contact with the manager at portobellos so props to her.

thank you so much with the number. seems like there is some mixed communication with it thought. my fiance called and was told they dont do that anymore and she had to call the restaurant directly and when I called they said they can do it but not till the 5th.
