Lurker de-lurking here. :)

Aren't there little cards in the AKL that say not to tip? Do people tip anyway?

I have never seen Disney cards that state do not tip.

We always tip and also do not wait until the last day. My husband likes to tip all during the trip.

 I tip. :earboy2:

I have never seen a sign at any resort saying not to tip.

I am not sure myself, but I would guess that housekeeping is found at any everyday hotel or resort. Mousekeeping can only be found at Disney resorts! :earboy2:

And by the way, I usually tip at house/mousekeeping, just not heavily. Typically $2 - 3 nightly, sometimes not even every night, if I don't have the change!

I have never tipped in the past, but after reading many posts on this subject here on the DIS boards, I gave our mousekeeper $10.00 for the great job she did during our most recent trip. I will always tip in the coming future trips.

I've never seen these cards either, but I have seen the cards that say "Hi, my name is ________ and I'll be taking care of your room, blah, blah, blah." We always tip House and Mouse typically $5/night unless they've done something extra in which case we tip more on top of that.
The signs that some places, groceries stores for example, that say do not tip are meaningless IMO. I always tip grocery delivery, or, when we used to live in FL, (where I actually drove to the store) the Publix baggers who helped me out with my groceries to the car. Although I never worked as a bagger or in housekeeping, I know that what they do is hard work and I feel a tip is always appropriate, especially the young kids or senior citizens who deserve more than the $5-7/hour they make on the clock.

I usually tip about three dollars a day. Most of the time, I'm staying at the resort alone and I'm not very messy (but I can be somewhat cluttered).

I really appreciate the work that Mousekeeping does and I know that they don't get paid a heck of a lot. And unlike waiters, most folks don't think to tip the person who is cleaning up after them.

We usually tip $5.00/day for 4 of us. I sometimes put it in an envelope, with mousekeeping on the front ( made them from Disney stickers). Other times I have just left a five, under the little card.

Sometimes they do not take the tip, though.

I always tip daily because I have been told several times by CMs at the lobby desk that a different person cleans your room each day. You may have Rose on Monday and Tuesday, Candi on Wednesday, Teresa on Thursday, Paul on Friday and Mindy on Saturday. If you tip on Saturday before you leave, Mindy gets $30 (or however much) for cleaning your room after you checked out.

My DH and I usually leave $5 a night provided we get decent service. Housekeepers work very hard and I do not think they receive a very high pay. In fact, when we are in the room when mousekeeping knocks to do the room and we just ask for clean towels, I still give her a tip because she was there to provide the services. When we were at ALK last week, I ran into our mousekeeper and talked to her for a few minutes. She is raising 4 kids on what she makes as a housekeeper plus what she gets in social security for the kids since her husband is deceased. She went out of her way to stop us when we were entering our room and thank my DH and me for leaving her what she called a very generous tip. She said without the generosity of Disney's guests she could never have raised her kids - she has 2 in college now, 1 in high school and another in middle school. It made me stop and think how very lucky my DH and I are to be able to afford to go to Disney yearly, eat dinner out, go to a movies, etc.

This was only at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I just asked my friend I was with and he said he saw them too.

I saw the normal "I am _____ and will be cleaning your room" at the other resorts, but this was specific to Animal Kingdom Lodge and it stated some reason for it, which I can't remember.

Of course, I could just be insane and hallucinating again. :earboy2:

I think I'll just tip every day next time anyway... I like to be nice and I'm sure they appreciate it. :Pinkbounc

i tip everyone! pizza guy, housekeeping, bag boys....anyone who i know really can't make all that much, especially if they really try to do a good job.

I always tip wherever I go. Last time we were at WDW I noticed many of the mousekeepers walking towards maybe a bus stop. It was hot, humid and I know how tired they must have been after a very hard day. It made me realize that my vacation time was just another day of hard work for them. Made me glad that I had tipped $5 a day for a job well done. Not everyone on Disney property is having a magical time, some of them are working their you know whats off squeaking out a living. So tip accordingly, if you can afford to go to WDW, you can afford to tip a little something to the folks who make your vacation a vacation!

Speaking of tipping, I need some $$$ advice. Our trip in Feb. will be just my husband and I. We don't leave the room in a mess. The only thing that really gets really dirty and needs to be cleaned is the shower. I am in a wheelchair and when I transfer from my chair to the bench and back, the shower floor can get dirty. You can imagine how dirty my tires get from the parks, add water, and the floor has dirty tire marks on it. LOL!! All it takes is a wet mop.

My question is, considering we leave the room fairly clean, how much do you think is appropriate to leave for theboth of us? I was thinking $2-3/day. Do you think that's ok?

I had forgotten to include cash for Mousekeeping tips in my budget.

I'm going to remedy that now!

Lindsay-Yes, I think $2-$3 a day is very appropriate for what you described!

Sherry-Thanks for sharing that story!

We always tip as well, housekeeping and mousekeeping.
