Who thought they would buy into BLT but changed their minds?

I gave up on BLT a couple of months ago when they changed the reservation system.

i keep flopping to & fro:rolleyes1

main issue now is ltd 'MK view' & no firm guarantee accessing viewing platform

figure the show tonight will push me over the edge

i've had great luck making 2 summer ressies for next year under new system, cautiously optimistic my luck will hold...if not; easy enough to sell a small addon:confused3

We did - were all gung-ho to purchase when they first started construction. As time passed, we've changed our mind about actually owning there. We own at SSR, and would like to add on at either Boardwalk or Beach Club when the time is right.

We're passing on BLT - but excited for everyone else!

I originally really wanted to own some points at Bay Lake Tower. However, with the current economy, the buy in price (well over $10 more than AKV), and point cost per night, I am opting NOT to purchase.

We have always flip flopped about BLT. We would really like the location while DS and any future children are young, but we are more Epcot people when we are choosing for us. We're also big animal fans, and love AK except for the lack of AC.

We bought AKV first; we know we wanted enough points for a two bedroom Savannah View for five weeknights. We probably would have been happy with that for every other year, but it was our initial purchase, and we bought it from Disney, so we ended up with 165 points. Even when we bought AKV we knew we wanted something else. If BLT had been available, we probably would have bought it. As it was, we put in a resale offer on BWV and are currently waiting on ROFR.

We definitely aren't going to buy any more points this year, considering we'll have bought 315 at two resorts. The timing of it just clearly isn't right for us. We might do an add on at BLT down the road, if we have no luck at the 7 month window. However, just looking at the pictures, the rooms really don't appeal to me. At all. It certainly makes me less interested, despite the location. That said, I would really like to try it sometime and see if the rooms grow on me. (I've never stayed at the CR; I much prefer the GF.)

WHAT SHOW TONIGHT???? PLEASE TELL.

WHAT SHOW TONIGHT???? PLEASE TELL.

8pm EST - Disney's Best Kept Secret (Travel Channel)

As to the original question, we had originally planned to add on at BLT but between the cost (and decor) of BLT and the recent AKV promo, we decided an add-on at AKV was a better choice for us.

I didn't think I would but am reconsidering as I really like the rooms.

Not to mention I recently came back from a long stay at a lodge building in the Grand Floridian during TS Fay. Everytime we wanted to leave our rooms to go to the store or get something to eat we were completely and totally soaked as the rain came down in buckets. Even with ponchos on we walked through puddles that came up to our ankles. At the BLT we could remain completely dry and have so much to do. We could walk over to Contemporary, play there for awhile, shop and eat, than we could hop on the monorail and do the same at Poly and GF and never get wet. Sorry this was a sore spot for our family on the last trip as it downpoured for most of our 14 days all day long.

I knew I would buy BLT and I did. No changing of my mind. BLT looks like everything I expected it would be. Many of the runors were true, and only a few were wrong.

The economy has had an effect on our decision. We're still planning on buying in, but we'll wait until spring to do it (assuming it doesn't sell out).

My intent was originally to do what we did with AKV. Buy in with long term financing, and then pay off within 6 months to a year. We're only doing 50 points, so it's not a huge expense. But with the economy doing what it has the past few days....We're just going to wait until we have the cash on hand, likely after our tax returns come, possibly a month or so later when some other money comes in.

But I just don't want to make a financial commitment until we see how/when the bumps in the economy turn out.

We weren't sure we'd buy in, but once we saw the rooms and the private balconies (hallelujah!!), we were sold. :thumbsup2

This is just one opinion., We're at Disney right now. We are fortunate to have visited the preview center and got to see BLT rooms. We liked them. We may end up purchasing there but decided to hold off for now because:

1. We don't have an interest in being one of the first 1000 and getting our names on the wall.

2. The discount is minimal.

3. There are no incentives to buy now except $5 off. We don't like the idea of giving them all that money up front and not be able to use it until September of 2009. With the economy what it is today, who knows what the situation will be in a year.

4. We suspect there will be a burst of sales with this introduction, then reality will set in and DVC will have to do a little better with incentives.

5. The decor is nice but not off the charts. There will be people turned off by the decor. We are confident there will be plenty of points left if/when we decide we are ready.

6. A lot is left undisclosed such as exactly what rooms and sections will go with what point category. Will the lower rooms facing MK be MK view? That will be frustrating if you paid premium per night points and can barely see it. How about those viewing areas and Top of the World lounge? In the booklet they provided it clearly states "The Top of the World Lounge and observation area are not part of the time-share plan. Limited access is based on availablity and may be terminated." I think that means they will rent the room out just like the Attic at Boardwalk and very few of us will ever step inside.

So without the importance to us of being the first 1000 we really couldn't come up with a good reason to jump in just yet. We worked really hard the last couple of days to talk ourselves into it because we were excited about it. We think if you take out the emotional value, there really is no value yet.

We haven't decided no though so we're open if DVC offers an extra push and can clear up a few things.

4. We suspect there will be a burst of sales with this introduction, then reality will set in and DVC will have to do a little better with incentives.

I couldn't agree more! I think many people will be taking a long hard look at their investment portfolios and then think twice about this purchase. I really think they are going to be announcing some significant incentives for BLT in the next 12 - 18 months (and I don't mean a plaque on a wall/fountain either.)

we were sooooooo close.......
figured we would sell our BCV contract (bought sight unseen, & a few stays convinced us that it simply has little appeal for us), & add about 150 BLT (keeping our BWV & SSR points).

the views & location looked outstanding, the building beautiful.

after seeing the room decor, tho, i'm hestitant. looks very 70's to me, certainly not contemporary (guess we were expecting a modern elegant look, with chrome i/o brown, granite & higher end wood i/o laminate).

we do tend to spend time in & enjoy our rooms; looks like we'll just book at the 7 month.:confused3

I gave up on it when we decided to move to Orlando. New house is more of a priority. Plus we still have 300 pts at SSR.

Me!

I have been gung-ho about it right up until August. But my reasons are a little more personal related. I found another project to invest funds in for my use (family beach condo). The rumored price hike of $140-$180 pp had me second guessing. Now it's the decor (which I hate), the THV expansion and the current economy that have me stalled completely.

I want to see the models next week when I go down to Orlando, but for now I'm not planning an add-on anywhere. Maybe in 6 months. There's room in my budget for 70 more points somewhere. It just may go to another resort.
