Who thinks the retail deals over the last 2 yrs are getting to be be to good?

Really??? Obviously you need something to pick on out of everything I said... Anyhow...Next time you go shopping see how many people flip an item over to see where its made. If the average American cared where stuff was made they wouldn't purchase items not made in USA. Also the Megalomarts wouldn't be popping up on every corner everywhere including small town USA. So yeah the average Joe doesn't care where there stuff comes from. They care how much it costs them. Ask big business if you don't believe me.

Actually I don't care what you believe. Have a nice day.....
Wow, that's the way you took it from me saying it was a broad statement!

No, not meant as a PICK ON. It is the way I felt about your statement. You came across as very opinionated as to what the rest of us do, how we feel, and what we think.

I do think most Americans care as to where items are made that they are buying. I just think most don't have the money to pay the higher cost. Of course, just my opinion.

I'm withthe others that say sure there are "deals" but if you are spending something on a nonnecessity then you aren't saving you are still spending.

I also agree with the pp who said items are made to break even costlier items. Bought a front load washer from Sears on a "deal" 3 years ago I am having it fixed for the second time (though I did shell out the extra for the service plan but essentially I prepaid for repairs) at the same time I bought a dishwasher Bosc supposed to be one of the best models out there. Had it three months and it quit. Had repair poeple in for three month after that trying to fix it until I fianlly said enough I have had a dishwasher for 6 months only used it for three and for three of those six months it had not worked at all. They replaced it with a comparable Kennmore model. I hate it doesn't get the dishes clean like it should. Also bought another item from Sears a ride on mower (again the service plan because I KNOW it is going to break- but we live in a really rural area Sears the whole in the wall storefront not the big department store type is all we have for these items) Boght this beginning of May Thur I am having a repair person out to replace the belts on it as the mower does not engage. So did I SAVE hundreds of dollars off those items retail cost sure but did I get quality items absolutely not.

So yeah there are deals to be found but are they really deals is the question...

Thank you for reminding me not to buy anything else from Sears!! We are in need of a new dishwasher but won't be getting it from Sears. A couple of years ago we FINALLY picked out a new king sized mattress after LOTS of research. We got one from Sears. It was horrible from the start, but my husband thought he liked it because it was so much better than our old one (spring poking him in the back!!).

Well, by the time we wanted to take it back/get a replacement (after a couple of months), Sears told us that we would have to take pictures and send to them of dips in mattress, etc. Believe me - it's impossible to find an angle to take the pictures to show just how bad the mattress is with bulges on the side, etc.!! To say we have been irritated is an understatement!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but no more Sears for us! Thank you, however, to all the posters informing about the dishwashers with automatic vs. manual filters. I had no idea that was something we needed to check into!

Retailers are slitting their own throats by relentlessly offering sales. People today won't purchase anything if it's not "on sale." . . . They are only making the recession worse.
Untrue. This practice has been going on forever -- in some stores more than others. For example, haven't we all known forever that paying full price for something at Kohl's is just stupid? If it's not on sale this week, it will be next week.

Stores've long known that people like to think they got a good deal, so essentially everything's marked up. A pair of jeans is marked $70 so that it can be put on sale for $30, and the customer can say, "But I saved $40". Truth be told, $30 is pretty average for jeans. No actual savings were involved.

My local grocery store always circles the "savings" line on the receipt and the cashier always comments "you saved $50 (or whatever) this trip." I am always quick to point out, "No, I SPENT $40 this trip."
I do that too. It's flat-out insulting to tell me that I "saved $40". Where is it? I'd like to spend it now, please.

But so often the teenaged cashier just plain doesn't understand, and it's not their fault that the managers make them say that idiotic line.

I just want shoes that aren't made in China. Worst quality possible. I have some good Italian shoes that have lasted me FOR YEARS. I have a pair of boots (Canadian made) that I bought the year I got married and they are still going strong. Chinese shoes tend not to make it through a single season.

I want to say New Balance are still completely made in America. I usually wear a pair of sneakers for a whole year before the bottoms are too worn out.

Dear Nikki,
My name is Laura with Sears Cares; I found your post here and I want to apologize for the difficulty you’ve had with your washer. We do care about all of our customers, especially if they are having problems with the products we sell. As the seller of these appliances, on the behalf of the manufacturer, we hope that the item will not fail because they have our name attached to them; however, anything that is manufactured has the possibility of failure, be it a dryer, washer or a Ferrari. This is why Sears offers extended care warranties once the manufacturer’s warranty ends so that in the event it does develop problems, we can cover the service at no cost to you. No retail organization (or manufacturer) can guarantee the item you purchase will not fail. All this being said we do value you as a customer and would like to see how we can help with this unfortunate situation. At your convenience please contact our office via email at smsupport at searshc.com and a personal case manager will contact you directly. In the email, please provide a contact phone number, the phone number the washer was purchased under (if different than the contact phone number), and please do include your user name (clintswifeymomof4) for reference to your issue. Again, we are very sorry for any inconvenience and look forward to speaking with you soon.
Thank you,
Laura D.

Wow still waiting for Sears to care about the fridge they sold me last year and said they'd give me creidt for the scratches....still got the scratches and no creidt. Too funny that they scope out the negative feedback online when just dealing with us in the first place would avoid the negative feedback, lol!
