Yeah but I'm more concerned about more variants arising than someone's personal health at this point.

This is where I am at. Without herd immunity mutations are too likely--look what has happened with things like measles.

I don't think it is actually changing anything, so I don't expect it to be rolled back. Oh, you can go to Walmart without a mask now? Half the people at Walmart last week and last month and last year weren't masked, so what difference does it really make to "officially" end a rule that has never been enforced or obeyed anyway? I've been out and about a fair bit today and the mask wearing at the mall and grocery isn't noticeably different than it has been. Most stores still have signs requesting their use, and there share of people ignoring those signs doesn't seem to have changed.

I will say, it is very confusing that the CDC is no longer concerned about children anymore. Some of these kids missed an entire year of in person learning in order to keep them safe, and all of a sudden we are going to use the Honor System to protect them? It's odd.

Yeah, that's the part that concerns me too. The only thing I can think is that they're going all-in on the "kids very seldom have serious complications" thinking and therefore aren't concerned with protecting them now that the more vulnerable segments of the population have the chance to protect themselves. But I have a friend whose daughter was hospitalized recently with MIS-C and one of my favorite people in the world is pregnant and seeing an OB who recommends she not get the vaccine yet, so I am more than a little concerned about what this means for the groups that can't (rather than won't) get vaccinated and what kind of risks they'll face as everyone else takes fewer precautions.

My consolation, as I said in a previous post, is that the change doesn't seem to be impacting behavior much. The anti-maskers never complied anyway in my area so I doubt this represents any real increase in risk, though it certainly feels like it does if I think on the level of policy rather than that of real-world application.

I am concerned about the number of breakthrough cases. Although the folks have the breakthroughs aren't getting incredibly sick, some aren't showing any symptoms, it proves they can still be spreaders. I am also concerned that there will eventually be a variant that the vaccine will not handle. With the number of cases happening in India and other regions of the world, the number of variants is bound to rise. And, as we saw in the past, no travel bans will keep those variants out of the US.

My family and I are all fully vaccinated. We have eaten in a couple of restaurants recently, but we go when we know it won't be busy. We continue to wear our masks at other locations that are indoor or crowded.

There is no indication that vaccinated people are spreading the virus. They have determined that is highly unlikely to occur based on the low level of viral replication happening in vaccinated people.

I live in a state with the highest percentages of deaths, and the county with the highest percentage of deaths in the state. Restrictions have been enforced, I can’t imagine going into a store and seeing someone unmasked. Our county’s schools were pretty much shut down. I’m concerned about what might happen when the unvaccinated are free to go everywhere without masks (the ones I know feel no guilt about this). Our mask mandates haven’t changed yet.

I did everything I could do by getting the vaccine. I still worry about it though. It’s not 100% but I’m better off than I would be if I hadn’t gotten it at all. I will still be careful with social distancing when I need to be and I may still wear a mask if I feel I should.

I mentioned this in mid-April but all the people who were saying they would not get the vaccine and kept harping on the vulnerable can still do this and still do that and we need to protect the vulnerable weren't realizing they were quickly becoming the vulnerable. They are the vulnerable now, that time has come. They are a risk to everyone, just less so for fully vaccinated, but they do hurt vaccinated persons because they can still infect them. Vaccinated persons are the lowest risk at this point.

Thats really weird. My sister is pregnant and her doctor advised her to get the vaccine, although he wanted her to wait until 2nd trimester. But as soon as she hit the 14 week mark, she got her first shot. She’s 20 weeks now - just had an ultrasound. From what I understand, pregnant women are among the highest risk of adverse outcomes from COVID.

I went to the UPS store, Dollar Tree and my local grocery store today. I didn't wear a mask at any of them.
Some people had masks on, some did not.

It should come down to personal comfort level at this point...

My state has the highest death rate besides having heavy restrictions, Florida is #27. We are kind of packed in like sardines here, which doesn’t help. I guess we are the India of the US, and yes, it is concerning, because we’ve been hammered.

As soon as HHS stops calling it a public health emergency and they aren't required to by federal law it will be covered the same as any other illness.

This is who I feel most concerned for--people like you (although your first dose of vaccine gave you some pretty good immunity).

As we all recall, the mask doesn't protect the wearer, it's primary purpose is to stop an infected person from spewing their particles out into the air. It's a mitigation effort for that. Now we'll have the unvaccinated out and about, maskless shedding virus and making other unvaccinated people sick.

I'd keep wearing the mask also if I were you, but the best protection comes from the sick person wearing it.

It's been a long year but I need a refresher course (which I know will be handed to me instantly here }. Weren't originally masks worn to protect mainly others from the wearer who might have covid or be asymptomatic?? And yes I was going to look for that one meme that tried to explain that situation via peeing.

One other quick question......why would those vaccinated be still concerned of those not vaccinated.

That doesn’t make any sense. In general people willing to get vaccinated are also the the people who were/are mask compliant. Why would they suddenly start harassing people who are wearing masks?

Because it marks the people still wearing masks as “unwilling “ to get vaccinated.
