Could be the 1st DVC that have resales costing more than buying direct.

Here's my reasoning:

If the point cost is say $120/pp buying direct (just throwing a number out there) and the GCVs only have 50 units, then the probability of it selling out before it's open to the gen pop is pretty great.

It's the only west coast DVC, AND it's located at the best of the DLR resorts.

With there being so few units, you'd most certainly have to own there in order to get a ressie, so the 7-month window is probably moot.

I personally can't wait to see how this plays out.

Thoughts?

I'm fascinated by this as well. I agree with your points why it will be popular and also that resales will be rare and pricey. We just bought AKV two weeks ago in order to guarantee we could buy points at VGC. (note: we also did this b/c we love AKL and plan to vist WDW every 2-3 years).

Also, even if they build another DVC at DLR it won't be at the Grand Californian and won't happen within the next 3-4 years I'll bet. My children and I aren't getting any younger.

The only factor that gives me the slightest hesitation is the current situation in the financial markets . . . but in the grand scheme of things, DVC isn't THAT huge of a purchase. It's not like buying a house.

I just hope that they have points left for sale to regular members after the founding members purchase period...

My guide said last week that if all the founding members purchase their max of 160 points (and I don't think they will - we probably won't) then that would add up to 500,000 of the approx million points for sale. So I would think you'd be fine as long as you are a DVC member.

Until recently I was a member of the general public. I was more worried about if and when it probably went to the public that it would be fast and I wouldn't be able to get high enough on my guide's list in time to get a chance at the remaining points.

So that would mean that there are currently approx 3,125 GCV Founding Members...

I have no idea if that number makes logical sense or not! Anyone? :teacher:

remember they aren't Founding Members yet, until they actually purchase CGV...they just have the opportunity to be founding members...
The number sounds about right, I did hear it would be around 3 or so thousand in number, the question is how close DVC is to reaching that number.

Yes you are correct re: those that have the "opportunity" to be FMs, I didn't phrase my post very well, thanks.

Is this something that they are going to stop when they've reached a certain number of initial DVC DL buyers? I hadn't heard that they had a quota on this.

Has anybody ever looked to see if DVC can exercise their ROFR to force a price LOWER in the marketplace in order to control pricing? I bet there's a provision in there in case this happens.

I know if goes against the free market but if it's in there, you're right, it WILL get interesting. ;)

This is a very interesting topic and I'm curious to see the outcome myself. I'm a SoCal resident and I dont plan on buying but it sure is worth a second thought because of the rarity of contracts. We'll see.........

This is why I'm planning to purchase GCV points. If I don't, I expect that it will be very difficult to trade in.

Anyone hear yet about when potential founders will get the opportunity to buy? I'd heard August for the longest time, but all I got then were offers for SSR and AKV.

I had been planning to buy GCV, but now I'm wondering about that. Now that BLT is official, I can (at this time) only afford to buy one or the other. Do you think BLT will often have availablility for people who don't have it as their home resort? Considering I'm already at SSR and AKV, while I would love being at the Contemporary, I also think it may be good to get points at another property. Considering DL is so close to me now, GCV is perfect.

The latest rumor I've read is that it will go on sale end of 2008/early 2009. Personally I'm hoping for Spring instead so we can have more time to save up $$$. Between VGC and BLT I think VGC will be the harder property to book at 7 months. Also it will be the ONLY DVC optoin at DLR aside from using points on hotel rooms at DLH and PPH. Plus they might implement the $95 booking fee for those. I sure hope not though.
