Who should I write to regarding RPR stay?

I thought there were cameras BUT with no broken windows or other signs of forced entry I'm not sure what security could have done. It sounds like you either left the car unlocked, left the window partially open or the thief was able to easily use a slim jim type of tool to quickly open the car. Do you have keyless entry? The thief probably entered your car in seconds. The malls by us have security that constantly patrols yet cars get stolen all the time.

You're certainly entitled to copies of all the reports BUT I'm not sure what security could have done. Not sure why someone would pick your car and just your glove box. I wonder if someone overheard something. The bellhop knew you had a camera and laptop in the trunk yet that's not what was taken. Someone (employee, guest, or lurker) may have seen your father put his wallet in the glove box or your Dad may have made some comment that someone overheard.

No one will dare TELL YOU THIS but with no signs of forced entry and with the camera and laptop still there I think the hotel/police may suspect the money was never in the wallet.

No one ever said that, but it was obvious by their actions that they were thinking it. My only answer to that would be, if we were going to lie, we would have claimed more things were stolen. Since cash is not covered by insurance, my father will never get his money back. So, if I was going to lie, I would have claimed that the laptop and camera were stolen.

Well, I do have something to say about the "secure" room where you can store luggage before your room is ready.

We stayed at the PBH and had checked most of our luggage with a porter upon pulling up to the resort and received a luggage ticket. We only kept our carry-ons which contained our change of clothes for the parks. We checked in and learned our room wasn't ready. After we changed up in the lobby restrooms, we gave our luggage ticket to the porter and asked him if he would put our carry-ons with the rest of our luggage to keep everything together.

He gave a half-hearted attempt to find our luggage, but then called us into the storage room because it would probably be easier if we found it ourselves. No lie. We could have had our run of this room full of luggage if we were so inclined. We weren't supervised the entire time we were looking for our luggage.

I too wrote a letter to the PBH about this (and a few other things), but I got a speedy response and a free one-night stay certificate.

Sorry this happened to you. :(

They also have a safe for you to put valuables that won't fit in your room safe.

I am sad to say, that I have not yet received any type of reply to my letter to the general manager at the RPR. I am very disappointed in his lack of caring. All I really expected was him to say "Hey, I'm sorry this happened to you and we are looking into whether or not we have a problem with our security." I don't think I will ever stay at this hotel again. Not because of the burgulary, but because of the lack of concern by the GM for his guests and their property.

I just wanted to vent a bit. Thanks.

Its a shame & terrible that they have not shown more concern over the incident u would expect them to be more rigourous u should consider contacting Lowes HQ as well if not already done so:jester:

I tried to cc the president of Loews on the email, but it bounced back as undeliverable. I didn't know who else to send it to.

WOW. I'm so sorry to hear about your exp.

I honestly think that actual letters are handled much better than emails. Emails are much too easy to just delete or ignore, but a real letter mailed snail mail often makes a much bigger impression. I would print off your email and send it to the General Manager and Loews Hotels, and anyone else you can find. Be sure and note on the letter who else it is being sent to.

I think that may get you a better response.

Shouldn't have to do that, but I just think taking that extra step to write an actual letter says tons about how serious you are.

Good luck =)

Please do not take this the wrong way.. I am in no way saying that you have lied. The way some security/law enforcement think may be that the money cannot be traced..but your laptop & camera have serial numbers that can be traced therefor if you had lied, you may get caught in the lie due to the laptop & camera..there is no way to trace the money??? And as far as the resort managment goes, they may think you are trying to get a free stay from them... agian I am not saying that you are (& trust me, someone on these boards once in so many words said that was what I was trying to do when I complained about where my room was when I had requested a certian area due to my husbands leg & upcomming surgery so I would never do that to anyone) Just a simple thought. ~~~~~~~~~

That night, still concerned about how someone had gotten into the car, we decided to go out to the car to see if the doors would somehow open without the key. We left the key in the room. ~~~~~~~~
Also please forgive me for asking, but once your car had been broken into, why on earth did you leave the key in the room when you went to your car??? I understand you wanted to try to get in without them, but wouldn't you carry them with you?

I don't take it the wrong way. I am sure they didn't believe us. I was just pointing out earlier, that if I were trying to be dishonest I could have claimed any number of things had been stolen. I don't want a free room. I completely understand that my father leaving money in the car was his decision and that they are in no way responsible for his actions. I just want someone to admit that they should have cameras in their lot or they should be monitoring better. Anyone can get into that lot. My friend went to the resort to pick up a stroller I had left there for her and was able to get in past security without paying and just by saying they were going there to pick up something left for them. I feel like if they want to charge me to park, they should be monitoring the lots better.

The reason we didn't have the key with us is because we went to the pool first. My father was not in a very good mood that night so my husand and I took the kids to the pool for a while. My father was in the room with the keys.

I don't blame you then for leaving the keys in the room. I though you left them there unattended. Sorry. I also see why you are upset & I would continue to persue this issue. You are correct in saying that if they are going to charge...then they should be more responsible. Whether they have a secure place or not for your luggage, when they are charging for the parking, security should come with the price of the spot. On the same token, I can see it happening since there was no evidence of forced entry, there would have been no suspision had security seen it actually happen. They don't know who belongs to which car. This is just one unfortunate situation. I do feel that Lowes & Universal could be a bit more understanding... Another question I have is why did you have the bellman that overheard your family prior to parking the car questioned? I see you thought it may have been him, but how would he have known where you parked your car ... did you ever at any time hand your keys over to the valet???

I wanted him questioned since he was someone who knew we were leaving valuables in the car. I don't know if you have ever stayed at this resort, but the parking lot is not so large that he couldn't walk around until he found my car. No, he didn't have my car keys, but the police assume a slim jim was used to open it.

It was just a bad situation. As I said before, I will not stay at this resort again - not because of the loss, but rather the lack of concern of the general manager.

I also feel that the resort has become very worn in the short time it has been opened. We were one of the first guests to stay in the resort when it was built a few years ago. I noticed this stay that there were a lot of stains on the carpeting and wear on the walls in the rooms as well as in the hallways. We rented a fridge for the room and it never got really cold. We thought that it should be colder, but didn't really say anything (believe it or not, I am not usually one to complain :D ) but, on the third day, it completely went out and caused me to lose all of my daughter's formula. So, we won't be staying there for more reasons than their lack of parking lot security. It is more of their lack of concern for everything.
