For those old enough, who remembers Y2K? Did you stock up on toliet paper and generators? I thought it was pretty silly myself. I knew nothing would happen and it did. I even fell asleep before midnight!

What were you doing on December 31, 1999?

I broke up with a boyfriend that night. You just don't ruin my Y2K celebration and get away with it!!!

Count me among the ones who didn't believe for a minute that the world was going to come to an end. I think the bottled water and generator companies started the whole thing.;)

But actually, I was at my parents' house at midnight. We wanted to get a picture of us ringing in a "big" New Year. Normally, all of us are sleeping before midnight on NYE.;)

My DH and I were sitting home staring at our 5 week old hoping he would wake up so we could pick him up and hold him when the New Year came!! We also spent the night talking to our friends who had their 4 month old via walkie talkies. We live in the same development 1 street over. It was a lot of fun.
We were just to exhausted to get together in person.

Having been one of the programmers fixing Y2k stuff, I understand the worry and all the hassle. Thankfully none of the places I was working were life-critical but certainly the manufacturing facilities I worked for appreciated the help...

I can't imagine what the programmers on the power grids were feeling on Dec 31, 1999.

Barry, I was just thinking of Y2K yesterday, amazed to realize that it has been 4 years already!!!!!

i actually stayed up till midnight that night just to say i had seen midnight in a new millenium (even though now some argue that it really wasn't)...we didn't worry about the Y2K stuff...we own generators anyway so it wouldn't have been an issue but we really didn't think that anything would happen.

Ah yes, Y2K...I didn't know what to think...didn't think it to be as bad as rumors were saying, but thought my computer wouldn't keep the right date or something...it was pretty much just another New Years. My dad's into the high tech stuff (as you know ;)) and so, I got more realistic views on what 2000 would bring. No "all electronics are going to explode" or whatever nonsense! :p

In my business (Insurance) there still are Y2K exclusions attached to peoples insurance policies! I will always remember it... I was expecting DD1 - people at work thought I would have her that night. DH and I opened sparking cider and toasted - then we watched the fireworks down at Firebird International Raceway off our back patio. It was clear and cool - a perfect winter night in Phoenix!

Just another media hype!

I try to remember that, when reading about flu epidemics and mad cow disease.

I remember I was sitting at home waiting for something to happen, of course nothing did. The following two years I went out, 2003 i stayed home again and this year I will be working. Have a great new year everyone!!!

I wasn't really worried about Y2K but we took a few steps like stocking up on some cash and bottled water. More like you would for a winter storm (which Chicago has had on past New Years Eve's) than for a major crash.

We get New Years Eve off (and I think it might have been a weekend back then as DH was off as well). It was fun watching the world celebrate with 24 hour coverage. From New Zealand in the morning, to Moscow, Paris, London, then New York. That was really fun! Where did those years go!

Keeping MJ company...:jester:

Nope didn't do anything out of the ordinary for Y2K.

I often wonder about the family i saw on tv who sold their big beautiful home, bought a much smaller one and stocked up on a gazillion things.
If i remember right they were living without all of the extras and learned how to make alot of things from scratch etc.

I was at a big bash in celebration of Y2K. It actually ended up being pretty lame, but then again I've never been BIG on New Years Eve.

We had a party at our house that night. I knew that the whole Y2K thing was a bunch of hype. As midnight approached, I was tempted to sneak down to the basement and, at the strike of midnight, turn off the main circuit breaker to our house. But I didn't.

As far as the turn of the century (the following year), I wanted to drive over to the Ohio/Indiana border and stand with one foot in the 20th century and one foot in the 21st century. But I didn't do that either. I guess that I'm a good planner, but not a very good doer.

We did keep out some cash and got some bottled water but we were not too concerned about Y2K. We spent the evening with our 3 1/2 month old DD and some friends. I was not feeling well and DD was cranky so we went home early. On New Year's Day I woke up feeling nauseous (an eerie nausea) so I took a left over pregnancy test - OOPS! You can get pregnant while breast-feeding, after 4 years of infertility, without ever having a regular cycle. DD#2 was born on August 27, 2000.

I can remember that night like it was yesterday. I was in the MK with my whole family. I think there were about 15 of us that day. It was such a long day that we took one of the last PS for lunch at the CP and sat and ate for 2.5 hours. We were in the park from 8am til 1am. It was NUTS!!!
