Who remembers when the Castle

1) The human brain is a wonderful thing.
2) It allows you to remember the painful event, but not feel the past pain.
3) I thoroughly remember the cake,
4) I fortunately cannot feel the actual pain of that sight.

NOTE: We went for a wedding of a friend. They paid humongous bucks for the Grand Floridian Wedding Chapel. As the bride takes her vows, the Castle is in her sight. VERY COOL ! However, due to the "cake" she actually asked for a refund, and they gave it to her. Turns out that this was not such an isolated request from bridal parties ! (They did not get refunds on the reception and other parts of the wedding, just the Wedding Chapel portion.)

I have read that they actually ended up putting a picture of the "real" castle in the window of the wedding chapel with reflective lighting, etc. to make it still look like a window because they got so many complaints from brides while the cake was there.

I remember the Castle Cake.

We were there for the kick off of the 25th Anniversary. I remember we were both in shoke when we saw that big pink thing. :rotfl2:

We got married in WDW in June 1997 when the castle was a cake. I was a little disappointed, but then I saw the stained glass castle window for the wedding pavilion, and I felt a little better.

I was so concered I was going to have the big pepto bismol cake in the background of our wedding pictures! But the stained glass worked well. Needless to say, we did not do pictures in the arch outside the wedding pavilion. I did not want the cake in my pictures.

We went in 93 for the first time. I was so excited to be there (and had never seen the castle in person) that the "pink" didn't bother me!!!

I'll never forget what that cake looked like, it was something that I'm glad i got to see, but I missed the castle though. There is something beautiful and magical about the castle and it was really hard not seeing it when we went that year.

Ah... the Pepto Castle!

We were there for the 25th Anniversary Celebration... hated it! I actually tried to avoid looking at it as we walked around the park because it was so hideous.

I certainly remember the castle as a cake (who could forget it if you ever saw it?), I like it better now, but it was fun and a great memory! My youngest DD still sleeps in a cake-castle t shirt sometimes and dreams of Mickey! :earsboy:

I do! That was my 1st ever trip to WDW, and I kinda liked the cake! When we went back last year though, I liked the regular castle much better than the cake.

What an abomination! I hope I never see anything like that again.

:)

I, unfortunately, remember it. It was horrible. I hope they never do anything like that to the castle ever again.

The problem with the "cake" beside the color was that it was partly painted, and partly segments that seemed to be attached as balloons. When it was there, it seemed to be harmless and temporary, (if ugly) but it took them months to get it back to normal.
The charm with the "cake" was that it had to be seen in person to be truly believed. So it didn't keep anyone away from the park, and left some pretty strong (if bizarre) memories.

It looked so BAD! My daughter who was about 7 then cried when she saw it because she wanted to show Grandma and Papa the pretty castle after telling them about it for 8 months prior to our trip. When she saw the castle again in 2000 she reminded me how ugly it was when it was pink!

Just wondering who all remembers the Castle when it looked like a big cake!!
I did like the looks even if it was a little on the gawdy side!!
I will be anxious to see the changes to it when we arrive in May.
I remember that, it was the first time I had been to Disney...I'm excited to see the Castle in it's "natural state" in May as well :)

I remember the pink castle cake of magic. I thought it was neat for the celebration, but not a full time look.

The artwork from Screamscape on the 50th celebration castle look looks pretty neat. We will have to arrange to see it in person if possible. How long is the celebration scheduled for? I was thinking 18 months for some reason.

:rotfl2: The castle cake was our first dose of WDW! Imagine my shock as a complete WDW newbie coming from DL and Bam.... an ugly pink puffy castle
