The standards are getting better all the time and our expectations are getting higher, I would say in many years of traveling usally the problems are minor. The longest dealy I had was a Europe trip of four hours. Virgin are very good but with any organisation little errors occur.
Agreed, many people on here want the cheapest airfare possible, yet yearn for First Class space, meals and service - it just doesn't happen.
Charters are generally cheap because they cram more people in than comfort would ever allow and charge for everything that you take for granted on a scheduled service (sometimes water, all other drinks, sometimes food, earphones etc) and give you a TINY baggage allowance.
If you use the charters, then be prepared for not very much space and take your own drinks and snacks on board with you (to keep costs down and ensure that you can eat what you like)

.
With any type of flying, but - in particular economy travel and charters - make sure you move around a bit on the aircraft AND look at taking a brisk walk and/or invigorating shower when you get to your destination. Will help refresh you and get your circulation going again (help reduce risk of DVT).

But go with a positive mind to enjoy and you will, do not worry.
Don't worry too much. Be prepared (drinks, snacks, maybe your own entertainment - portable DVD player or music player), be realistic about space, but remember it's just the necessary journey to get to the fun bit

.
Be excited about your holiday, don't worry about getting there
