I'm thinking of people who write soundtracks directly for the movies.
I'll start with John Williams and Danny Elfman.
Williams was just EVERYWHERE for such a long period of time. The themes from Star Wars, Raiders and Jaws are part of our culture these days. The music from Schindler's List is absolutely devastating.
You've just gotta love a composer who knows how to use a well-placed bongo! I give Elfman the nod just for the Ed Wood soundtrack! He's got so much more to his credit too: Nightmare Before Christmas, Men in Black, Planet of the Apes, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks and Batman come to mind.
Howzabout you? Any movie music composers who you really like?
