I see current flight are $166 from midway, Chicago to MCO. Those of you who have brought in the current schedule, is that a good price? We will need five tickets this time. We just got room reservations with the 7 month DVC window. We do need to add one night, I think we are going to take the last flight out on Friday.

Anyone know, at Midway if your flight is 6 am what time do you need to be at airport? I know 2 hours earlier than flight normally but e counter does not open at 4 am , so what do you do?
Whoo who may the prices be decent to all.

I haven't flown from Midway, but that seems good to me. My non-stop one-way fare from VA is usually around $143 or lower(or higher) depending on the season. If the dates have not been released for your entire trip, buy the legs separately. For example, if you need round-trip from Aug. 12-Sept. 12 but only the Aug. 12 is showing buy that ticket and then buy the other when it is released. I didn't realize you could do that until I called Southwest because my return flight wasn't released yet. I was told that each of their segments is based on a one-way ticket and they don't charge extra. Of course, by that time the lower price was no longer available and I had to pay the higher price. I hope that made sense.

As for what time to be there, I would call Southwest and see when the counter opens. You might be surprised at how early it will be open. I've found that most open by 4:30am or so. If it's not open, you can always do curbside check-in(assuming that's open that early too). Don't quote me, but I think your bags have to be checked in about 45 min prior to the flight.

....(snip)......Anyone know, at Midway if your flight is 6 am what time do you need to be at airport? I know 2 hours earlier than flight normally but the counter does not open at 4 am, so what do you do?..........
I would aim to be in line about 10-15 minutes earlier than the counter opens if you have luggage to check. Otherwise, assuming you already have boarding passes printed and in hand, I would aim to be in the security line around an hour or so before departure.

We're waiting for the next bank of flights to be released. I'm praying that we can get something more reasonable for spring break than $500 per ticket.

We've flown out of Midway on a 6:00AM flight and have arrived at 4:00. A line had already started for check-in, but the counter didn't open until sometime between 4:30 and 5:00.

The tough part is if you arrive much later, the line will build up before check-in even opens. We're conservative about allowing enough time for security, breakfast at the airport, etc, so I doubt we'll cut it much closer than the 2 hr window.

At least we're up early for vacation, especially WDW. That's about the only time I don't mind getting up at the crack of dawn!

I've been watching southwest waiting for them too at the rest of March. So it will be tomorrow?

Midway is quick to get through. 2 hours will be fine. Security goes pretty quick the 5 times I have used Midway. Not near as crazy as O'Hare.

As to price, $166 actually sounds high for one leg of the trip as that could mean $332 round trip. What you will find with SW is that when a booking actually opens, there will be some lower rates for a short while. Then they will approach what has been the average high for "wanna get away" rates in 2013 and 2014 of between $156 and $166 one-way for a non-refundable ticket, but there will be two to three times that rates will change as you approach a date and some new bargains offered, ranging from $112 to $130 one way. That often happens about three to four months out when SW adds some new flights for some busier times. However, once you get about a month in, discounts start to disappear and by the time you are a couple weeks out lowest prices might be in the $400's.

I'm planning to purchase tickets for our spring break trip from PVD to MCO. :cool1:

From STL we usually get tickets in a range from $151-$166.

Like a PP said, just because the counter isn't open, doesn't mean the line isn't building. We always stick to the 2 hour rule to be sure we get through security. I don't like starting a vacation stressed out :)

I'm waiting for Southwest tomorrow too! We will probably also end up flying out of MDW for the first time but we're going to DisneyLAND for spring break! Yippee. The questions about arrival time at the airport are very useful information for me too. Here's hoping for lots of cheap flights, good departure and arrival times and plenty of time to book them when the schedule opens up! :wizard:

I'm planning on booking in the morning too. I'm going to try MKE first and MDW if I have to . I'd be very happy with $166 one way during spring break. the other airlines are significantly higher.

Booked this morning out of Milwaukee. Paid $2400 for 6. Not great, but I'll take it. Thank goodness we have a rewards credit of $600 to offset the cost. DH thought maybe we could get it cheaper if we waited, but flying out on a Saturday over spring break is always expensive. Thank goodness we have to fly home on a Monday because of a cruise as that was inexpensive. I could have saved us $600 flying out on Friday, but that would mean another's day off for DH and another missed day of school for the boys. What killed me was that as I was booking, one of the flights jumped in price, so I had to pay $120 more. At least we get there earlier now. The same flight I purchased is already over $3000, so I can at least take some consolation in that.

I'm waiting also but i have to wait till oct 14 for the rest of april rates....my break is week before easter....ahhh the waiting:hourglass

We ended up booking out of MDW. The MKE scheduled had changed :( Paid $400pp for 4 as well and got 3 on points. Gotta love the 50K points!

Ended up booking a late Sat flight out and staying until Monday to get $104 rates both ways. That's ok -- We'll stay near MCO on Priceline for our arrival, get the rental car the next am, and maybe stay at Pop or possibly Art of Animation Sunday night. I may return the rental car on Sunday and take ME back to airport Sunday. Lots of time to figure it out.

I was able to get standard studio at VGF to surprise DH, and end at AKV in value studios, so spring break will be a happy trip for me :beach:

That's $166 each way, so total is still $300+ right?

I believe the cheapest flight from Chicago to MCO right now is Spirit Airlines. We still go thru SWA because of baggage and we use points.

Or did you mean you saw a flight that's $166 roundtrip?

I'm planning to purchase tickets for our spring break trip from PVD to MCO. :cool1:

May I ask what rates you got? I am looking at the same itinerary for our trip in April. I am looking at SW prices now and they are HIGH :scared:!

eta, sorry for some reason I did not see your updated post. So each way for $104? That's pretty awesome.

I'm not sure what time the flights were available, but we booked at about 5:00 this morning. RT from MDW to MCO was $342. I was hoping for a little lower, but it's still better than the rates from ORD ($500+ for non-stop). I guess that's the price for spring break travel. I checked a few minutes ago and our return flight had increased about $125 per ticket - that would have been $500 more than what we paid this morning. I guess it pays to book early.

Now onto stalking rates for the summer trip! :)
