Who is underemployed and that is just barely getting buy in this economy. I have degree Information Systems and 3 years of management experince from work. Yet I working for 5.50 hour at HomeGoods in the offseason until baseball season come back around.

Is it me are companies not paying for experince employees anymore and trying us like high school kids now because they can get away with it. That is question.

To kept my skills fresh in this economy I studying every new computer language that there is. Keeping update in my Web develop skills by design websites as hobby for my different interest. Example i redesigning my Lions of Arus website just for fun.

But I am keep hope live that economy is kick in gear.

just the oppisite for me, I have no real skills and make decent money. Guess a lot comes down to luck.

I thought that was pretty much the norm in computer-related industries now. They were all making beaucoup bucks a few years ago; all the college kids knew it; now they don't need the people they had back then, much less the millions of grads that have been produced since then. That's my "computer careers for idiots" understanding of it, anyway.

I haven't had a job in 3yrs! I just started work last October when I accidently applied for a job online. I was just answering questions hit the submit button and next thing you know...they are calling me for an interview! Well needless to say after 2 written tests, 2 interviews, and an assessment of the job I got hired!!!! They put me in training for 12wks and now I'm on the job doing ...ewwwwww....work!!!!! The pay isn't bad at all either.:teeth:

OK I just went to the website and am thinking crazelion is fishing for someone like me to say something nasty.

I'm fighting it...

I think I am the opposite of crazelion. I have no real skills, didn't finish college (well community college, not that THAT means anything these days either... ) and have made some bad job choices in the last few years which have left me with squat. Oh well...you live and learn right?

I am a SAHM with a Master of Education degree. Underemployed and making $0 but the kids give the bestest hugs and kisses in the world!::yes:: There will always be time for work!

Actually i am not fish for nasty statements. But I am seeking to truths to some statements that state of the economy is rough. That people put all there time education then the bottom falls out. I went into computers because i love working with them. Computers not a get rich scam for me.

I just wondering that people thoughts was on this board. I have vast of interest. This seem to be a hot topic on every board that i visit in different forums. I am just shocked that this topic have not come on this board.

I will go lurker for while to see anything catch my attention on other threads.

I'm fighting it too. I'm just hoping that crazelion isn't attempting to get a job in Web Development.

crazelion, what area is your Information Systems degree in?

I'm unemployed right now, have almost 15 years in the IT area, and eek by on consulting jobs I manage to come across. I keep interviewing for a full time job and hope that the other candidates aren't as qualified as I might be. I get hopeful glimpses every once in a while.

I have a friend who was pulling down $90K plus bonuses as a web designer. When the dot com crash happened a couple of years ago he found himself out of work and hasn't worked in his field since. He did get offered a couple of jobs soon after, but turned them down because he was insulted to be offered only half of what he had been making. Another friend is still with the same company and he admits his butt was only saved because he was involved in a big bucks project at the time that had to be completed. By the time he finished it, the panic was over and he was able to hang on to his job.

What happened was that some of these employers found that there are people out there that will gladly work for less, and that they could get by with less employess, thus increasing profits, so the great salaries and loads of jobs in the computer field that were there a few years ago just aren't there now.

Yes, we are finding the same problem. Actually, when my DS was born, DH realized that he hated the mortgage industtry and wanted to go into his love..computers.

He has the basic certs, MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, and A+...but he really needs to learn Unix, SAN, and Exchange. Then, it looks to me, that now he needs a focus. He needs to zoom in on one area. For example, he liked Cisco much better then Microsoft...so i think he should get his CCNP, CCSA, and CCSE..and go from there maybe even get his CISSP..however, we will be putting out about 15-20k by the time he is done all of these.

DH loves his job, but we cant afford to buy a house where we are...not even a townhouse, so we are looking to relocte. We have been looking for about 6 months and he has had two interveiws. We will find out no later then Wednsday if he got the job...but from what I have seen, this ecomony is tough. And the salaries are way lower then they were before.

When DH said that he was going to go for the MCSE it was 2001. In 1999 I think the average salary was 80-90, now I think it is 60...so that goes to show you the difference a few years makes.

I've been the manager of a store for almost 3 years now and only make $10 an hour. I do not make $20,000 a year :P Last night, I was pretty much forced to come to a decision that I need a part time job to help with my bills and daughter. So, now I have to work 10-7 S-Th at my full time job and 10 pm to 3 am M-F at my part time job just to make ends meet. Money sucks!

Unfortunately many people are underemployed (and unemployed)in this economy. In spite of what the so called experts say, the only people seeing an improvement are people who already have money. For most of the country, the economy is still very bad. I know of people with degrees and years of experience who are working as grocery clerks and baggers just to help pay the bills. This country needs to keep jobs in this country and employ Americans. I hope things get better for you and any one else in the same situation real soon.
