Who is Not Buying VGF2 and Why?

I was seriously considering it and DH told me to go ahead, but I have decided not. Losing Magical Express, the high cost of APs (if they ever come back new), Genie+ and LL additional costs, and all the other things that have been cut put us at a hard no. We still have 20 years on our BWV points and have enough points for a 8 nights a year in a two bedroom if we do one week in standard 1 of every three years. We also have some WVL points to use for shorter trips.

We were going to try and get another full week, but the high points charts are crazy, and we actually prefer to be closer to Epcot and DHS. I will hold out for the BWV rebuy in 20 years.

Congrats to all who bought and enjoy your points. I am looking forward to spending more time in London or skiing instead.

I’m not buying. I think the mindset with the point charts is buy into VGF now while it’s active again and so-so on price, if you want to plan studio size only trips there. Don’t buy in for the larger villas. I’ll still do the 7 month checks with my BCV and OKW points.

I have over 400 VGF points already. They're resale but can be used at RIV because they were purchased before those restrictions went into effect. I have a grandfathered membership.. I don't need more points.

I'll admit it was tempting given the price, but we've decided not to. VGF has never really been our vibe and the lack of 1 and 2 BR in the new building is a real turn off - along with the point chart. Still, it was tempting to buy unrestricted points and try to use them elsewhere, but in the end we said no. We have a CC resale contract currently sitting in ROFR to add to our direct points there. We are in the market for still more, but have decided to take a breather and see where the resale market goes in the next month or so. While VGF resale will most definitely adjust, I feel as if any of the resorts that are currently reselling within spitting distance of the VGF direct price are going to be for a bit of an adjustment.

I'm happy for the folks that love studios and VGF though. It's a really good price for direct, unrestricted points. It's just not for us.

The cuts you mentioned don't really bother me. The only one I really care about is the continued lack of daily housekeeping for cash guests, which obviously doesn't apply here.

I'm not buying VGF because I don't like VGF or the VGF points chart.

I just bought another 50 at AKL direct and I am doing another BLT resale contract. While VGF is nice, I don't care for the new studios and with all the people buying at VGF2 the real studios and larger at the original VGF will be impossible to get.

The next direct purchase for me will likely only be if there is a new 50 year resort that intrigues me. I currently have an OKW contract for sale that I'm considering pulling off the market to keep and use at VGF though! lol

The DVC offerings keep making decisions more confusing... I want to add on direct points, and I'm torn between VGF2 and Riviera. I like the Riviera rooms better (especially with more equal distribution of room types) but I could definitely live with Grand Floridian. LOL. The walkable location of VGF is better than Riviera but I already have a monorail resort and wouldn't mind access to Epcot/HS. But then there are those resale restrictions. And, I don't have an urgent NEED for points. It used to be that buying now was always better than buying later, but that no longer seems to be the case. Glad I didn't buy the BLT incentives because these are better! Also, I hear reports that VGF rooms desperately need sound proofing... any truth to this? Thanks.

  • Don't need more points
  • Disney has had plenty of issues recently AP, FP+, Magical Express, Dining Plan (I have APs but taking them away again just not a good sign)
  • Room layouts (not a fan of two beds in the same room)
  • Room balance (I dislike CCV because of Cabins, like RIV because its well balanced, I think all the extra studios puts extra pressure on 2BR as a subset of new owners will buy for larger rooms)

We wanted a monorail resort (already have RVA). I was briefly tempted with VGF late last night because the price came in, with incentives, below the price for the 200 BLT pts we just bought for 202 pp. But
1. we like BLT better (love CR) and
2. realized that with no 2021 pts for VGF, BLT still comes out ahead slightly in price considering the rental income from the 2021 pts. So I'm good with no VGF

The biggest loss for me in recent years is magical express. Still gives me pause, actually, and yet still excited about future vacations.

I’m concerned about the noise issue. Hope someone chimes in.

I am in a similar situation as you are. We already own a good bit of VGF resale points without restrictions. I don’t need any more.

I'm planning on buying RIV. Thought for a moment about VGF. I just think RIV will be harder to get into at 7 months than VGF.
This is a good point. I think all the new studios at VGF will be generally be easier to get at 7 months, along the lines of Poly studios. There are so many VGF studios now and they are some of the highest per point (which curbs some demand).

If this were last October, I probably would have upgraded my SSR for VGF2. I can't buy in with no APs on the horizon.

If there are no APs, then the whole long-term model of DVC and repeat Disney-goers in general doesn't work. It doesn't work for me and lot of other people like me. I'd even take a Pixie Dust pass, or a super expensive pass, or even a Blue Card only pass.

I know that I need to sell if there are no APs. Maybe I can renew my AP another year and stay a few times at Swolphin or the off-site resorts. My original plan was to sell this summer, but who knows if the resale market will have recovered by then. Heck, who knows if DVC will have announced Vero2 with even cheaper points by then.

*Well, I'm on restriction anyway til I pay off the last purchase lol.
*And VGF isn't where I am looking to buy next, but if I were I would still not buy because....
*I am not excited with the new rooms or the direction that seems to be pointing for the future of DVC offerings.
*I didn't get DVC to stay in studios (my issue with Poly!)
*The pressure this is going to put on the non studio rooms there is going to be insane.
*I still have a hard time with over $200 pp

I was itching for BLT points and have been watching those for a while. But we stayed at Boardwalk a couple weeks ago and I get now why people love that area. It was really nice being able to walk back and forth, especially with my mom on that trip in a scooter. No second bathroom was an issue though. We have a stay at BC this summer (I have been really lucky with the 7mo somehow!) and I am waiting to see if either of those might be preferable vs. blt. The 20 year expiration has been a deterrent, but I will be getting old then anyway. 👩‍🦳

I don’t know if it will put pressure on the non-studio rooms. The overwhelming majority of people want studios. That’s not us because we’re a 1- and 2-bedroom family, but studios do make the points stretch more. I know a common complaint from current VGF owners, myself excluded, is that there aren’t enough studios. Personally, I wish they would’ve added more 1- and 2-bedroom units. I guess time with tell, and then they’ll know if this model makes any sense moving forwards.
