Who IS Goofy 2011?

$310 + Active fees so will push $350. As Perfect Goofy, I was diappointed with the $2 trinkets after spending over $1300 for 5 Goofy's:confused3

You can count me in. I guess I'm gonna do this until I get it right. Had trouble with shin splints during the full and could not keep pace. Got swept at 18. :sad1:
So, I'll be happy with the Donald medal for this year, but will be back to try for Goofy agin next year.

Terri

WOOHOO!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

As for me, after three straight Goofys, I think I'm "just" doing the full next year. I would like to be able to do that scream team deal and I really need to work on training more consistantly before giving it a go again.... maybe 2012.

That said, I reserve the right to change my mind, lol.

:earsboy:

I was disappointed with the Perfectly Goofy stuff too...but somehow I seem to be signed up for 2011. How'd that happen?

Maybe they will bring the bling for 10 years like they did with the marathon. Of course by then Goofy will cost $500...but...

I'm pretty sure DH and I are signing up for the full only. I think DH plans on the Goofy in 2013.

Hi all,

I must be more than usually insane as I have not only signed up for the Goofy next year but will be flying over from the UK specially.

I'll probably be on my own so I hope that I'll be able to meet some DISers so I don't get too lonely.

I've run a few marathons and wondered how much people added to their usual times when running the Goofy. I have pbs of 1:37 and 3:34, what would you expect that I should aim for ?

Best Wishes to all,

Liam

Assuming I have the cash before sellout, I'll definitely sign up again. If that should fail, I will "just" do the full ;)

Hmm, DH's first WDW maraton was the 10th. His first Goofy was the 5th. So I guess we will see you all in 5 years. :lmao:

Oh, wait, I ran the half this year - when is the next big anniversay for that???

I'm so tempted to join in again.... had such a great time this year, despite the cold and the wet! I finished a lot slower than I had originally planned (you know, back before I was pregnant :lmao:) but it was just such a great experience.

I had the urge to sign up for next year, today, but I think it's probably a bad idea. My estimated due date is August 3rd, and I'm not sure I could get back into Goofy shape that quickly. I'm definitely in for the half.... I just need to do some more thinking about the Goofy. Maybe I'll sign up for the Goofy and see how it goes..... I can always just do the first part if I'm not in the right shape to do the full. If nothing else, it'll be great motivation to get moving again! :rotfl:

Hmmm - are we related? My name is Terri, I attempted Goofy as well, and was swept at mile 18 during the full......

And I figure I'll try it again in 2011....

Good Luck to you in your training!

Terri (too)

Not sure. This is pretty expensive for a weekend race. Since we live in S Florida and have passes now it isn't really a "vacation" for us.

Once I did my first Disney marathon (first marathon ever) I swore I would never run another. Within 2 weeks I had signed up for my first Goofy :). Many of us have the same story.

Last year I had issues with my IT band that forced me to a crawl at mile 14. So I had to go back this year because I couldn't let the race beat me. This year I had a much more respectable run. Not super fast but a good solid run in both races. Again IT band issues but not as bad. I don't have these problems anywhere but Disney because of the roads we run on.

We'll see. I am going to focus on Tri's this year so a full marathon might be out of the question for the immediate future.

enjoy,
Duane

The 15th Donald will be 2012. Just know that the mouse did nothing for the 10th Donald. Nothin nada squat.

That's probably because they didn't realize that creating a special medal would draw so much interest. ;) Maybe we'll see a special 15th anniversary medal (like they did for the full in 2008). Disney will then increase the number of participants, charge more $$$ for the privelege of participating, and start the race at 5:00 am to accomodate the extra participants. :teeth:

By the way, the 2007 half was my first race ever. I didn't even know it was the 10th anniversary at the time. :(

Sorry, OP, off topic here.

To all you 2011 Goofy participants - :worship::worship::worship:

Let me ask you all a question, with an explanation as to why.

My wife wants to run the half with me this year. She hasn't ever run, and is starting a plan right now. We went out and got her some good running shoes yesterday, so she's rolling. I think she can do it, and she thinks she can do it. So I'm in for the half with her.

The thing I'm not so sure about right now is if I can even do the Goofy. I've run one marathon before - Disney in 2004, and the time you've got to spend training for a full vs a half is just a lot of time. I'd like to do it, but I just don't know.

We need to register for the half, because if fills up pretty quickly.

So my question then, is, if I register for the full and Goofy is not sold out at the point where I feel like I could do it, can I upgrade my registration from the half to Goofy?

And, just out of curiousity, why is there an extra $40 for "officially" doing the Goofy Challenge (registration for each event individually is $135, but Goofy is $310, which is $40 more than $270, or $135x2)? I guess you get the extra shirt and medal, right? But are those honestly worth that much more?

Hi Michael- from what I understand you cannot switch races. I say go for it! It will be fun to train and run with your wife in the half.

AFM- I just signed up for the Goofy! This will be my third attempt. First try I never even got there. I had an injury from the MCM that was still a factor 3 months later! This year I did the half but woke up at 2 AM with a migraine. Got dressed, ate, took Motrin, made it to the start- puked and got on the bus back to the hotel and slept until 8! It was still a good day- walked on to all the rides a Epcot with my sister (including Soarin and Test Track) The candy lady from Japan picked me as well!

I will do this in 2011!!

You can upgrade your registration to the Goofy, without any problem. You just need to fill out the paper form for the Goofy, and send it in along with a copy of your registration confirmation for the full, and ask for the upgrade. As long as the Goofy is not sold out, there are no problems. I did that this year when the Goofy re-opened and I decided to upgrade from the full.

Second, I can't imagine running the half and the full, and NOT having the medal and the shirt to walk around the parks in afterwards. That's kind of the point, right? The Goofy medal is your badge of honor, and I can't imagine just doing the half and the full and not having anything special to show for it. Plus, when you're already spending $270 on Disney races, what's another $40?

I know. I know. I guess I'm askeered of the sheer volume of running to do Goofy. i'm a pretty slow runner as it is, and I definitely respect the distance. Is there a Goofy training plan out there?

There are, easily googled. That said, most intermediate-to-advanced marathon training plans feature back-to-back running, which already make them naturally a good fit for the Goofy.

I did Hal Higdon's Intermediate marathon training plan and did well with this -- it does back to back 10 and 20 milers 3 times, which for me simulated the Goofy really well!
