Who is faster Hertz or Alamo

depends if you use their preferred service.

Hertz is offsite; I am Gold or 5 Star each year, and I simply check the board for my parking stall number, walk to the car, and leave. There is always a Hertz bus waiting at MCO, and it takes 5 minutes for the drive.

I think Hertz is very quick. There is never a wait for the bus. It took us longer to use National at the airport than it did to ride the shuttle to the Hertz lot.

June 1998 was the only time we rented a car and it was from Alamo. After a 2-3 hr wait in 90+ degree sun and not getting the car we reserved and the car we got was damaged but the person checking the car couldn't speak very good English and didn't write it down and then being accused of the damage ourselves, waiting a year to resolve the issue with 3 different reps. from Alamo who again couldn't speak very good English. I wanted to design a tee shirt that stated "I survived the Alamo" and have their logo on it. I would say go with someone else unless they have changed since then....

I had one of those horrible waits at Alamo when they were offsite. That was when I decided to just stick with Hertz.

I have never rented off-site before.
Is it much more of a hassle to rent off-site then on-site?
Is the walk from the Hertz parking lot to the shuttle an inconvenice? Is it easier to walk from the a/p parking garage to the terminal? Is it easier to find alamo's onsite a/p dropoff or Hertz's off-site drop off?

Should I join the Hertz #1 club? It's free but I don't like how you have to enter our credit card and drivers license info online.

Using Hertz is very easy. I do curbside check in with the luggage and then return the car. It is a very short walk to the bus from the car return area. Lots of signs to direct you but you can see the bus from where you return the car at MCO.

If you belong to AAA there is a discount with Hertz.

the Hertz bus loads right outside the area where the rental car desks are located. No hassle.

the bus drops Gold/5 Star/Presidents Circle members off first, then regular members. Can't comment on the counter service.

Don't really know what you identify as a hassle; I never find Hertz a 'hassle' at MCO

I use Hertz all the time and never had a problem with my credit information. It is secure.

that's your own choice. I believe that any express car rental service will require you to enter this information.

The first time you use #1 Club you will need to stop at the counter and sign paperwork. After that you bypass the counter.

Sorry, Safetymom and I keep posting answers at the same time, but at least we are giving you the same answers! ;)

I'll let you know about Alamo..we pick up our car there on May 12 at the airport. Pre-registered online, so allegedly all I have to do is skip the check-in counter, walk to the lot, pick up the car, stop at the booth on the way out--and head to WDW

Used Alamo in February, and as long as you have a reservation and are a US citizen, you can use the self-serve check-in. It's very quick. I was checked in and in the parking garage to pick out a car within 5 minutes. I have not used Hertz at MCO, but they're off-site - so I'm thinking with Alamo's self check-in, Alamo might actually be quicker.

Hertz's walk is minimal. You walk out the door of the terminal into the waiting shuttle and when you pull into the Hertz lot you are let off at the checkin building. Right next to the building are the Gold members cars waiting under canopy and most of the time the engine is running allowing you to get into an air conditioned car. When you get onto the shuttle you give the driver your name. As he is driving to the Hertz site he is advising them you are on the shuttle. You get off the shuttle and look at an electronic board telling you what slot your car is in. You are within a very very short distance to your car from the shuttle dropoff.

I actually PREFER Hertz to using National or Alamo as I don't like to cross the road and schlep my bags upstairs to the parkade....usually in the heat.

Boarding a nice cool bus which is waiting for me, and having the driver take my bags, is much preferable than managing it myself. And the time difference is minimal tradeoff for comfort
