Who is destashing in 2010?

Y'all are so inspiring! :goodvibes

So whats a french toast casserole? Sounds yummy!

It's really easy!

There are several variations but this is the one I cooked this morning.

1 loaf Italian bread
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 T corn syrup
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla

Slice the bread then cut the slices in half, layer in a greased 9x13 pan

Melt together butter, brown sugar & corn syrup then pour over the bread.

Mix the eggs, milk & vanilla and pour over everything.

Cover & refrigerate overnight.

Cook for 30min on 350. I usually put it in the cold oven so the pan heats with the oven. Sometimes I cook it a little longer if it seems too mushy. The top will get crispy and the middle will stay a little mushy.

Some people put syrup on it or powdered sugar but we like it just plain. It would also be good with some cinnamon added in if you like that flavor.

Well, it took a few hours-delays-but I took 2 suitcases out of the house this morning. :thumbsup2

I drove DD to the airport where she is (finally) in flight back to University. I guess I can clean her room. . . again. :rotfl2:

Wow, you are really hard-core - destashing things and actual people out of your house!! :rotfl:

I just destashed my kitchen pantry and took down both Christmas trees. I read the destashing challenge thread on this board. The kids will help me inventory and sort the freezers and storeroom tomorrow evening.

DH suggested we try to tackle one area per week, either all out on one day or measured intervals daily until it is done.

My pantry looks great and I had soup that had expired over 1 year ago in there.

Thanks for the motivation!

I've got my fingers crossed that I'll be able to de-stash the girls dollhouses and furniture/people. I've had them up on craigslist for a long time w/o much real interest even though the price is at yard sale pricing. But someone normal seemed interested in them today so think good thoughts that I'll get a huge chunk of my garage back soon. LOL

Anyone have any ideas for accessible but put away art supply storage? I'm not adverse to buying something but it would need to be solid/long lasting and not junky looking, yk?

I've got about 8 big bins of art stuff that is just too hard to get at and is all over the house/garage since I don't have a single location to keep it all in.

This week's goal is to de-stash under my bed. There is no reason for anything to be under there since I haven't pulled anything out of there for more than a year.

thanking this thread for the motivation... I had started this slowly before Christmas but now am in full swing now that all the Christmas stuff is put away. It only took me about 20 minutes to do my bathroom (I only have one) and I was able to move out a 3 drawer storage unit and put it in a room where it was really needed... I had space in the bathroom now!!

I have boxes of clothes to take to goodwill. I also have a box or two of stuff I don't know what to do with - brand new victoria's secret totes/bags that I don't need, will Goodwill take things like this? What about bras?

We live in what I consider a tiny house (2 bedrooms, about 1400 square feet on 3 levels) and although I love my house, I've said for the past year that we lived here that we are going to outgrow it... now I know thanks to reading through this thread daily that I don't need a bigger house, I just have too much stuff. I feel so much better now!!

I recently destashed under my bed, too! Found lots of useful items: several socks, a tank top I'd been missing, part of my Franklin Covey daytimer, and the flashlight my coworker loaned me... :rolleyes1

Thankfully, I have a low-to-the-floor Ikea bed so I can't really store anything under there. Things just go there to hang out and hide from me. :lmao:

Well, I am glad ya'll are here to hold me accountable. I wore myself out shopping this afternoon because Coldwater Creek and Christopher and Banks are both having big sales. ( I went other places too.) If I hadn't already committed, I would SO be slacking off on my desk/office declutter tonight. BUT- I already told you, so I can't!!! Hooray!

I want to destash my sons bedroom on Tuesday, he got a new job and starts then! YEAH!
He helped me do the kitchen today. I was amazed at how much stuff we got rid of (3 trashbags) Pluss extra dishes and cups even a flatware organizer.

I forgot to add- this is just a quick 'FAT' sort, with all paper going into a "File, Act, or Toss,' pile. Since I just went shopping and have nice brown paper bags from CWC and C&B I am using those for F and A and using the garbage can/recycling for trash.

Your house will feel much bigger once you get rid of the excess. Our house is just under 1400 sqft, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and that's 6 of us living here. So the common areas are the tiny living room and the tiny eat in kitchen which doesn't leave me a lot of space to put anything.

I've gotten very creative with storage and space savers and simply having no mercy on anything that is not a positive force in our life.

hmmm, maybe that's where the missing socks are....I have a small basket of single socks that I refuse to throw away in the hopes that I will one day find their match! LOL It's like 10 socks and I don't understand where the other one could possibly be! I've moved the washer and dryer multiple times and none are ever under there.

Today I organized the christmas wrap I had left over. I also went thru all my boxes and cut down to two boxes of boxes. One with small boxes and one with larger shirt size boxes.

I also went thru some old kids clothes. I picked out some to go to consignment and some to donate to the school nurse.

I am not sure what I will attack tomorrow. Maybe get the bags together to go to goodwill.

I'm so thankful for this thread. I must admit, I keep an immaculate house. However, it's the size of a postage stamp (1100 sq.ft/2 bdrm. & 1 bath) and I have a ton of stuff stashed in nooks and crannies.

Sometimes it's hard for me to let things go because I actually feel guilty. If it was a gift from my mom or something that was bought on an impulse and still has a tag, I feel like I should hang on to it.

My plan for now is to choose one small area a weekend to de-stash. Even if it's just a chest-of-drawers, I plan to purge. :woohoo: Hopefully, we will have some breathing room soon!

Ok, I tackled my bedroom & it was not as bad as I thought! DH had sorted through the baskets so I just had to put away the kids' clothes. I didn't have too many, most of them must have been DH's. I have one small tray to sort through and some toys that made it to DH's dresser. Maybe I'll look in my hope chest & clear out some old clothes I know I won't wear again.

I plan to make the Goodwill trip Wednesday when the kids go back to school. I want to have it all boxed up & sorted so it'll be ready to go.

Okay, I have enjoyed the motivation this thread has provided. I have been eyeing everything with a "can this be decluttered" eye. I will be taking a box to Goodwill this week.

Another thread also motivated me to list on ebay (3 items listed). Perhaps I could get something listed on Craiglsist as well (an extra fridge I have in the basement).

Thanks everyone- let's keep going!

:thumbsup2we have done 2 of the attics in one house and we are doing the other after Disney

The other house and its 3 well :confused3 I look at it this way if I have not missed it by now maybe my Dh should just clean it out without me . He will chunk most of it .

the one big closet will be worked on a little at a time this week I hope you guys can keep me going . :woohoo:

Okay, flipping throughthe channel and found "Hoarders, Buried Alive" on the Discovery Health Channel. Scary!! Makes you want to clean and destash all night!!!!:scared1::scared1:

I'm curious as to what specific items you are all destashing - it could be good inspiration to remind me what I have in the house that I don't really need. :goodvibes

2 trays
5 cocktail forks
5 glasses/mugs
4 shirts
