I have the family coming over tomorrow, so in order to spend some time with the grandchildren I am doing anything I can ahead of time. So currently peeling potatos (a lot of them as I also use them in my stuffing for the turkey). I plan on doing the stuffing tonite and will just stuff the bird in the morning prior to placing him in the oven. A very large bird. We are talking over 25lbs prior to stuffing.

I will also have the yams ready to just slide into the oven after I add my extras to them. I will not be able to do my Kaluha whipped cream until tomorrow morning as I want it to hold its shape. But I like it prepared at least a couple of hours for the flavor to blend right.

Now if I can stay away from my wine while I work I might get things done. :rolleyes1

We're having family over tomorrow too and we're cooking some of the food tonight. Mostly the snacks that just need to be heated or chilled overnight!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I did what you did!

I spent mot of the day getting everything done ahead! I like to relax and watch the parade and then be able to relax with family as much as possible. Tomorrow is going to be as easy as I can make it!!:)

Get things done - and THEN sit and relax so you can truly enjoy the wine!!!:):goodvibes

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!

I got all the stuff ready for the stuffing, so I just have to throw it together tomorrow morning. I'm getting ready to make pies now!

I am preping a bunch of stuff tonight. Currently I have brownies in the oven and have made some of the appetizers up to the point where all I have to do is throw them in the oven tomorrow.

I have the Pumpkin Gooey Butter cake in the oven now. DH is cleaning & getting ready to brine the turkey. Would like to get the Sweet Potatoes ready but we are going out around 9:30 tonite so we will see.

Me! I've been cooking all day!

My MIL and Mom (at their respective homes -we're having dinner with my family on Saturday) do the turkey and dressing. Also pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and custard pie.

I have done the sweet potatoes - they have to be boiled, peeled, and mashed (only I've found it's lots better to use the food processor!) and the mac and cheese, because I make a sauce that starts with a roux and takes awhile. I'll actually cook the pasta in the morning, but the sauce is done. :thumbsup2

Also, pumpkin spice cupcakes, maple walnut white chocolate cookies, and DD12 decided she wanted to make a turkey cake (she's been watching too much Cake Boss -lol) from chocolate cake and cover it with fondant. I did let her make the cake, but fondant is a lot of work. I convinced her that she could use buttercream, and make the feathers from construction paper. LOL. (there's already too much dessert -we did NOT need a chocolate cake. Plus feathers from fondant would not be dry in time for tomorrow).

Anyway, all I have to do tomorrow is bake the sweet potatoes, cook the macaroni, and make corn pudding and a tomato casserole. I like to cook while we watch the Macy's parade. Then we head over to DH's parents and EAT!

Our niece and nephew will be home from college - we can't wait to see them!

I have about half done. Made a big tortellini salad, a black bean and mango salad, a pea and cheddar cheese dish, the mashed rutabagas, a "healthy" ambrosia, and prepped the stuffing.

I was just going to ask this - LOL.. I've often wondered how many people cooked the night before - and what it was that they prepared ahead of time.. Now I know!

Hope you all enjoy your extra free time tomorrow! :goodvibes

I made 3 pies tonight. Does that count??

I'm preparing my first thanksgiving tomorrow and I'm terrified.

I'm on dessert duty. Cheesecake is made, apple crumb pie is in the oven, pumpkin pie is bought from costco, chocolate pudding pie will be made tomorrow, and i'm working on the dough for my homemade dinner rolls now. And i'm having a giant glass of wine, so I don't even care that my cheesecake cracked!!!

I've got 3 pumpkin pies, pumpkin crunch cake, cranberry sauce, jello with crushed pineapple & grated carrot finished. Celery & onions are chopped & ready to cook with butter for the stuffing; some celery & carrots are ready to put in the bottom of the turkey pan. Cranberries are chopped for a salad but I ran out of crushed pineapple (didn't buy a large enough can I guess). I have the spices blended for the turkey rub. If DD & the kids come tonite instead of tomorrow morning, we'll do the mashed potatoes too & I'll ask if she's got a can of crushed pineapple. Think I'll put a pan of brownies in while I watch SURVIVOR...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Yes - it counts..:thumbsup2

And just don't make the same mistake my DD did with her first big Thanksgiving dinner in their first home.. We waited hours and hours and hours for the delicious smelling turkey to be done - only to learn she had set the oven to broil rather than bake!!

Oh - and do you have any little ones in the house? One Thanksgiving when my kids were little, I "thought" the turkey was cooking - only to find that halfway through the process one of my youngin's turned the oven off!! :headache:

Have I given you nightmares yet? LOL.. You'll be fine.. Enjoy!! :thumbsup2

I've been cooking the better part of the day. All of my side dishes are finished and in the fridge. The stuffing is made and I'm getting ready to rinse out and salt the inside of the turkey.

I still want to make some pumpkin bread, but need to clean the bathrooms and do some laundry, so I might not get to that tonight.

Yet, doesn't it just amaze everyone it takes a better part to 2 days to prepare a meal that is usually over within a half hour? I almost wish it took everyone longer to enjoy the meal with all the hard work and all.

ME!!!! Been going at it all day here and there. Started with the homemade broth.

I have pumpkin pie #3 in the oven. We already were eating number one, so now I have to make 5 of them.:rolleyes1

Then I just made 2 batches of grandma's sausage stuffing. I of course sample each batch.

Now I am going to go and get the pie that is dinging, make another pie and then proceed to make 15lbs of mashed potatoes.

Better go....ding, ding, ding....

7 pounds of potatoes peeled and cutup and sitting in water another 5 to go. Just had to stop it gets tougher when you have arthritis in your hands. :confused3

Mushrooms are stuffed and ready for baking tomorrow as well as theWestern Chicken my DD requested. I think I will get the turkey ready to bake and place back in the fridge.

Need to do the green beans as well as a scratch Chocolate Cake.

Happy Thanksgiving all!!!!

Me! Almost everything is put together and just needs to go in the oven tomorrow! Turkey and ham will be cooked tomorrow, but turkey is going to be fried, so I'm practically done.

I have the following complete:

1 pumpkin pie
2 homemade apple pies
bread cubed for the stuffing
celery and onions chopped for stuffing
Cranberry with orange done
5 #s potato peeled and cubed

Not bad since I woke up and my hands had swelled overnight... I am very excited about my progress today.
