Who Inpires You?

"Who Inpires You to Lose Weight?" That was the topic of our last WW meeting and for me the answer was easy, it is my sister. My sister lost over 100 pounds on WW about 4-5 years ago and has done a wonderful job keeping it off. Before she joined WW and lost weight I thought our family was destined to be fat and that we were unable (because of genes) to lose weight. After I saw what she accomplished I thought if she can do it I certainly can try and I am so glad that I did.

So who is your inspiration?

Hmmm. I'm not sure if I have a particular person. We have a family friend who lost over 100 lbs last year. I only saw her after she lost all the weight. And it was amazing. I've known her since I was born. And she is one of those people who thought fat was beautiful and never had any desire to lose any weight. Then one day she just did it. About 2 months after seeing her, I went to an amusement park with my little sister. And she was unable to ride one of the roller coasters. She couldn't fit buckled in. I was mortified for her and got off the ride myself as well. The next week I convinced her to join WW with me. Telling her if our family friend could do it then so could we. So I guess she is my end point reminder that we can do it. And my little sister is my reminder that we have to and it's important to keep on this journey.

Thanks for asking this question. It's really made me think.

I don't really have a person that inspired me to start losing weight. For me, it was my prom dress hanging in my closet. Prom is less than a month away and if I don't lose weight, then it will be a miserable 12 hours as my dress will be very tight and very uncomfortable. The dress was my main inspiration to get started. Bikinis are now my inspiration to keep going. I have promised myself that when I lose weight and can look good in a bikini, then I will find a really cute one that I love and just buy it without looking at the price. Thats a big thing for me as I am really uncomfortable in anything tight or revealing or whatever, I have always worn a one-piece bathing suit, and I refuse to buy anything full price. I don't splurge on anything, so when I lose all the weight I want to, I am really looking forward to just buying a bikini.

My inspiration is looking the way I used to in High School/Early College. I can't believe that back then I wasn't happy with the way I looked and now I'm just trying to get back there. I don't know that I'll ever be that thin again, but I work at it every day.

All you WISHers inspire me! You are an incredible group of people working really hard to make positive changes in your lives. That's why I keep coming back here to WISH - to see the progress you all have made! That's what keeps me motivated.

I feel like this as well. I went all through high school thinking I was fat at a size 8/10 and 135 lbs! (I'm only 5'2") And now I think 150lbs is supermodel thin!!!:rotfl:

What really made me realize that I could loose the weight is my oldest friend (20years) lost 80 pounds and darn she looked good. I figured if she could do it so could I. Then once I lost 60 lbs my kids loved that I had the energy to do stuff with them and be an active mom. I still have 30-35 lbs to go and all I need to do is look at my kids and my husband and just knowing that they are so proud of me for doing so well that keeps me motivated. Also being able to fit in my sisters clothes who has always been skinny has been an extra bonus lol.

I have a picture of "the girl I used to be and want to be again" up on my fridge. She was really cool and I've missed her for some time... I know she'll look older when she finally gets here... but she'll still look great! :yay:

It is my family that inspires me. I want to be here for them. Just the thought on not seeing the possibility of grandchildren frightens me. Well, in the last year, I am healthier and thinner. I still have a way to go, but I am not as negative about how long I will be here to share life with my loved one.

I hope I don't sound too depressed, because I am not. I am very excited about knowing I am going to be here and enjoy my family.

and all my WISH friends!!! seriously!!

My Dad. He's 78 and was diagnosed with early stage Parkinson's two years ago. He had never really worked out much, but his MD "ordered" him to work out to help the Parkinson's. Well, you should see him now! He lost a lot of weight, toned up his muscles, he has TONS more energy and the BEST part is that the Parkinson's symptoms have gotten BETTER not worse in the last 2 years. He's at the gym nearly every day, swimming laps, walking on the treadmill and lifting weights.
When we went to WDW in December, he rode all the "E" ticket rides and said he felt like a teenager! I want to grow up to be just like him!

This is a great story! Love it!

For me, I think it's mostly my DH and kids.

This is probably going to sound really corny, but my DH makes me want to be a better person. He's 5' 11" and 100% muscle - naturally. Not "steriod-induced-body-builder" muscle, but lean, athletic, "genetically-gifted-freak-of-nature-can-eat-anything-and-not-gain-weight" muscle. And even when I was at my all-time heaviest and feeling like a (well, we know the feelings :sad2: ....) he never once had anything negative to say about me, my weight OR my feelings. Granted, he's a man - he didn't UNDERSTAND the feelings ;) but he didn't condem them either. He's been very supportive thru "thick and thin" so to speak :goodvibes

And my DD...well, she's 11 and built like me. In an effort to spare her some of the struggles that I have dealt with, I am very open and honest with her as to how important food and exercise really is in her life. We work on moderation - nothing is forbidden - but boy oh boy have I made a label reader out of her!

DS's - well - they've got Daddy's genes (plus they're teenagers - they just eat, sleep and grow anyway :rotfl: ) But they are very supportive in their own way (as in "drop the tootsie pop mom - you don't need it. I said DROP IT. Don't make me come over there and take it from you".... :lmao: )

That is wonderful, what an inspiration!
