I know there IS a difference and have known/been around people with both, but when it comes down to being able to discuss their differences I would know nothing. General ideas, yes. Nothing to carry on to intelligent of a conversation, though!
To be fair, he didn't specifically say Sarah Palin's son had autism. He did keep referring to autism and special needs and Palin, making it seem as though he was confusing autism with down's syndrome, but I don't know. Someone said Palin has a nephew with autism.
Even if she does, most people don't know that and it sounded like he was confusing the conditions.
The debate I listened to didn't have McCain say that Palins son was autistic. Just a reference to her understanding of the needs of families dealing with autism.
