Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

Thanks, Christy! I love this one. Your LO is great, especially the way you have different size borders on the photos.

ok...I am going to buy the MM and SBC+ but my question is what is the difference btwn The digital power palettes and additions and digital kits and digital palette kits?? Most of them look like the same thing.

should I buy the CD's (MM and SBC+) just incase my computer would ever crash...or can you save an downloaded version and still back it up on an external harddrive. I am only just know thinking of this question since my husbands computer crashed this weekend and we had to buy a new one for him.

Also I saw in a post before that they are coming out with an upgrade to the software. When is this coming out?? Can you just keep on upgrading everytime or do you have to buy the whole thing over again if you want the newer version??

THanks for all my questions in advance. I am sure I will have many more questions once I actually get the program.

Here's a 12x12 template for you... :):)

Hey guys! Baby is due in a few weeks. So far, the only place I can find where we can print custom baby announcements that I design inside SBC+ is Creative Memories site. Everywhere else, it APPEARS I have to use THEIR designs. Any ideas or suggestions out there? Surely someone has printed custom designed Christmas cards or something?? Help. '

Thanks.

k_reile,

I'll answer your questions tomorrow. I'm about ready to go to bed and my brain isn't working too well...

You can make them in SBC+ and have them printed pretty much anywhere if you use a standard size.. like 5x7... I have done all of my kids' birthday party invites, our Christmas card, etc... you just need to have them printed on photo paper... unless you were wanting to do something different?

I have had cards/announcements printed through both Scrapbookpictures and Winkflash... They were both fine... If you use Winkflash, make sure you do the preview of your card before you order it... for some reason they tried to crop in on my already 5x7 card.... but I was able to fix it in the preview and it came out fine.... For my kids' birthday party this year, I was running late, so I just had them printed in 5x7 through the local Walgreens (1 hour photo) -- those came out fine too... Except they only print on site in glossy, and I kind of prefer matte for cards and annoucnements... Hope that helps. :)

I did my Xmas cards through winkflash. They even came with envelopes! I made mine 5x7's. Just look for the blank/full bleed card option. I knw Shutterfly offers them, too.

I have been thinking about purchasing SBC for a little while now. One of my questions about digital scrapbooking and purchasing the "kits" is do you just click and drag the elements around on the page until you have them where you want them?? Like a sticker? Or a ribbon? Hope this makes sense:)

Hello my fellow Iowan...;)

I think I understand your question. You have all of your papers in a tab and all the elements - like sticker-ish items, ribbons, special alpha - in another tab, and photos in another tab. You can add them - or drag them - onto the "page" you're working on and move them around the page, resize them, recolor them, or rotate them. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. I would suggest pulling up the creative memories website and checking out one of the basic tutorials or webinars. That should give you a good idea of how the program works. Personally, I LOVE SBC+. It's so quick and easy! There are kits you can download for free or purchase that you can just add your pics to. I like to use their templates (or an already designed page) as a starting point. I'm not crazy about a lot of the CM colors and designs, so I replace the papers and embellishments with stuff I've downloaded off the web...most of it for free. I love checking out scrapmatters.com's freebie section in their forums. It has links to tons of designers freebies. It's awesome!

Good luck with your decision. I think it's a wonderful product.

Thanks for your reply. That does help answer my question. Did you get the lovely snow yesterday?? It is already melting this morning.:cool1:

mcgrawfan,

In a nutshell, SBC+ allows you to make paper LOs, digitally. The nice thing about it is that you can resize, rearrange, recolor, repeat, or whatever else you can think of to your heart's content. You can use one thing from one kit and something else from another, over and over again. I've been using it for over a year, for the past 8 months almost every day, and I'm still learning more about it and what I can make it do.

And you clean up your "mess" with a click of the mouse. That part I love!

Nope, we didn't get any snow at home yesterday - we're in western IA. I was in Des Moines visiting my parents and it snowed all day. Just a little accumulated on the grass. I just hate to see snow this time of year!

I'm not sure the copyright problem had anything to do with SBC+. I do know that I had to get a letter from Olan Mills giving me permission to copy some of my baby pictures at Wolf/Ritz Camera. The pictures were from 1970. I think as long as the company can not provide you with more pictures, they will give you permission to have them printed through someone else. I can't remember if I had to pay anything or not for the copyright release, but it couldn't have been much if I did.

Oh...I didn't mean to imply that I thought the problem was actually caused by using SBC+, just that I've never printed anything other that basic photos. I just started digital scrapbooking about 6 weeks ago.

I guess the root of my question is whether or not I'll be able to print a lot of the pages I've done for my one boys' scrapbooks since I have scanned his baby pictures for many of them. Was planning the same for my other son. Isn't there some clause for personal use or something? That's a lot of work for nothing if I can't get them printed. :sad2:

I have never had a copyright question or issue with Shutterfly or Winkflash. Maybe you want to try uploading there to print?

I watched a couple of the tutorials on the CM website. I think I can do this. :) My questions are...How does everyone print their pages or books?? Do you use CM or Shutterfly or just print 12x12 pages??
When you are creating a new book and are not printing it through CM what option do you choose?
Thanks for the help!:cutie:

Hi McGrawFan!

I've only printed one so far, but I used Shutterfly. I saved the individual pages within SBC+ once I had the book completed, then uploaded them to Shutterfly. You put them in the Shutterfly books as a full page photo.

As far as what option to choose, I think you're asking what to select when starting a book in order for it to print properly at an outside vendor. I do my books as 12x12. Then I have to option to print them as 12x12 or 8x8. Just more versatility for my needs.

I think you'll really enjoy SBC+. I really do. I love that I can work on it when I want and I don't have to worry about making a mess like with traditional scrapping. Plus - SBC+ is super user-friendly. I tried photoshop and had no idea where to even start. This thread and the CM tutorials have helped tremendously. Also - if you're on facebook, you should look up Creative Memories - Go Digital. I watched a pretty informative webinar last month that I found out through there. Thanks to Disney Baby for the suggestion!

Good luck!

Carissa :)

Just a note in addition, which goes for either printing option: In case anyone chooses one option and then decided to go with the other (as in chooses non-CM printer and then wants to do CM printing), you'll need to create a new Storybook and import the pages into the new book. You'll want to import a few at a time and not all of them at once, or else you'll have to spend time rearranging them since they do not transfer in the same order.

The only reason I know this is that I had a customer who experienced this problem last week, so I thought that I'd pass the info along as a "just in case".

Oh, and I always print with CM. Even if I wasn't a CMC, I'd still do it for the quality and the guarantee. Yes, it is more expensive, but well worth it, in my opinion.
