Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

Hi -- You said the most recent (4th) training has been added to the CM site? I don't see it on there. I already watched it but would like to forward it to some others... Do you have the link? Thanks!

DisneyBaby -- SUPER CUTE template!!!

Okay I am having an issue copying in the webinar code. It is in a CMC area, but says to share it with digital customers. Try this link and see if it takes you there. You need to fastforward about two or three minutes since the start is the setting up of the recording of the session.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but apparently coming in one of the next upgrades will be a tearing tool to make any paper into torn paper.

Also, not exactly what Jessica wants to do, but you can go to the drop down menu of the shadows and select a new color for the shadow and mess withthe options a bit. It will not give you the exact color outline effect Jessica was talking about, but it is fun to play with.

Thanks Michelle -- When I click the webinar link, it seems that I just go to the webinar company's homepage.... but it's not huge deal... I already saw it.... I'm sure they will get a one click link on the CM site soon.

DisneyBaby -- Question.... You wrote on another post that the only thing you have loaded on your computer is your SBC+ program. I was wondering if you load you kits into SBC+? I think Jessica says she prefers to drag and drop from folders outside the program rather than load her stuff into SBC+. I kind of like my stuff in SBC+ so it's accessible... I guess I am just used to it.... and I am lazy and like everything "right there." If I keep collecting digi stuff at the rate I am though, it's just a matter of time before my hard drive fills up....I have only about 25GB of 220 left! :scared1:

Hi Christy!

I have my CM packages and my "My Stuff" saved on my external hard drives. This enables you to use the program without dragging and dropping. I do keep my active Storybooks on my laptop.

If you go the first screen and click on My Stuff
click on file
click on change location
click on change folder
you can "point" the program to your external to find your My Scrapbooking Stuff.

You can do the same thing in CM content - click on CM content
click on change location (it is on the top right)
click on change folder
you can "point" the program to your external to a file where you are storing your CM packages. If you are not sure where they are currently - they are usually in the c drive - users - public - public documents - creative memories - packages. This is where mine were stored in Vista.

I hope this makes sense. It keeps the clutter off of the main computer. I also delete the photographs in the photo section after I have put them in the layout. The photos take up a lot of space it they are in your layout and in the photo section and then possibly on your hard drive. If you have Memory Mananger - it is even worse because they are on your computer 4 times in you are using it in a layout.

You are just full of useful info!! :) Thanks so much! -- I didn't realize you can do that!!! I have been dragging and dropping some of my little mini freebies because I didn't see the point in bringing those tiny little kits into SBC+... but I run into problems if I am using a template or a paper shaper because as far as I can see the papers have to be in SBC+ in order to "fill selected shape with paper...." ??? SO, that was driving me nuts. I am impatient and hate to have to stop and go bring papers in, etc. just to use them in a LO.

I have been better about deleting pics from the Storybooks as I am done with them.... I had a cluttered mess for a while in my cruise Storybook that was driving me nuts.

I do use Memory Manager and really like it, but it is kind of crazy that we have the same pics in multiple files all over our computers, isn't it? No wonder my hard drive is shrinking so fast!

Thanks again! :goodvibes

You are welcome! I am finding new things each day as I play with the program.

Also - check out my scraplift thread! - I scraplifted you and I found your original. I hope you don't mind!!!

Is there a way to put stuff I download into the My Stuff folder without having to import it via SBC+? You know, if I just save it there, it will show up in SBC+? I'm sure this is wishful thinking! Just curious!

You can :) I don't ever import anything - not even CM packages but you still have to put the activation code in. Just find the folder for My Stuff - it should be under your User - Creative Memories - there should be two folders -My Scrapbooking Stuff and Storybooks. If you go into the My Scrapbooking Stuff folders you should see each "collection" that you put in and each one has two folders - Papers and Scraps

You can create the folders and subfolder manually. Just make sure that everytime you make a folder for a "collection" in My Scrapbooking Stuff that you make two subfolders - Papers and Scraps - even if the collection does not have one or the other. If you don't do this - when you open a project it will give you an error message when it cannot find the folders.

The CM packages - instead of downloading them to a file and importing them - I download them directly to the folder where my Packages file exists. They are usually in the c drive - users - public - public documents - creative memories - packages. This is where mine were stored in Vista.
It saves me a step.

I hope this is not too confusing!

I am trying to make sure I understand you. Are you saying I can use your method to store stuff on my external hard drive and then still be able to look at the papers or embellishments tab and see my stuff.

Like Christy I am lazy and like to have it right there, but if I do not need to overload my laptop that would be great. I had called tech support, but they said I need to load it all onto my harddrive and run if from there.

Thanks!!!

Also. I will work on that link to the webinar. The coded link will not copy in. I cannot access it at work but I will not be defeated by a webinar.

Okay you gotta love High School kids. You name it they can get into it and make it work. Here is the link and it work as we checked it and began viewing the webinar. Click the link and you can watch the webinar that contained the word merge and other cool tips and tricks

Yes - you can store all of your my stuff on your external and still access it the same way. I called CM tech support to verify that I wouldn't mess anything up.

I started by copying "My Scrapbooking Stuff" folder to my external hard drive. I then went into My Stuff - and did this:

click on My Stuff
click on file
click on change location
click on change folder
you can "point" the program to your external to find your My Scrapbooking Stuff

before I was comfortable deleting if off of my hard drive.

I have a friend that runs all of SBC+ off of her hard drive - but I wouldn't advise that! She has had all sort of crazy problems including losing pages - that would make me cry!!!!

Awesome Thank you!!!

See, I have everything (except the actual program) on my EHD, but I guess I just don't have it in those particular folders. I'll have to play with that this weekend! Thanks!

Hi Jessica -- You asked about my shadows on the sandbox LO... Thought I'd respond over here and keep the info. in our sacred SBC+ thread. :) I have been playing around with the shadows some in SBC+. This one throws the shadows to the top left... The easiest way I have found to change direction of the shadows (since you want to keep the shadows all going the same direction) is to wait until I'm pretty much done with the LO then click ctrl A to select the entire LO... Then I click on the shadow button drop down box and change the dial thingy to the direction I want. Then I pretty much start everything with 1.0 for depth and 1.0 for softness. Then I go in and adjust depth and softness depending on the element size and dimension. Also. Once you do a shadow, you can clcik directly on the shadow button and that will repeat the previous shadow setting you did (since the default shadow on SBC+ throws to bottom right and once you've changed the direction you can't use the shadow light and shadow heavy buttons..... At least that I can see.) Hope that makes sense. I'm going to keep playing around a little. I don't want to spend a ton of time on shadows... this one took me maybe 3 extra minutes, so that's not too bad.

OK all you SBC+ experts....any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! :goodvibes

I am getting started, playing around with layouts, etc and basically just learning my around SBC+. So far, everything I have done has been 12x12 pages just because that is what I think I want to print. :confused3 The problem I am having is that every picture I upload appears fuzy/pixely and has a yellow "caution/exclamation point" sign in the corner saying the picture quality is not high enough.

I am not a very knowledgeable camera person, but I have always just used the regular setting for picture quality and never had any problems printing pictures (even up to 5x7). Have any of you had problems with this? Is it because I am doing 12x12 pages? Any help would be wonderful! :goodvibes

Christy -- Thanks so much for the answer! I'll have to play with that. I"m so used to the heavy and light shadow buttons, I NEVER think about the shadows, but I do like how it looks when they are different, too. Very cool!

I always take my pictures on the highest quality possible on my camera. Do you know how many MP your camera is? I think SBC+ is a little picky about the pictures sizes (I think it gives that yellow triangle much more often than it should), but just to be safe, I'd turn up the quality on your camera for starters. Also, when you place pictures on a 12x12 page, you often end up with really big pictures without even thinking about it. So , check the size of the pictures (right click the pic and check properties) and if you KNOW you have getten prints that big before and they came out OK, you should be reasonably confident that the page will look OK, too. If the pictures actually LOOKS pixel-y in SBC+, it will look pixel-y when it is printed. Hope that helps!

kellig, I agree with Jessica. I make 12x12 albums, and it is very hard to remember just how big they will print out to be when you're working on the computer. I hardly ever use large photos in my LOs since I mostly work with photo collages, so I haven't run into that problem very much.

When I do, just reduce the size of the photo until the caution disappears, that way you'll be sure to have a clear picture in your LO.

Good luck!

Jessica and Christy - I appreciate your responses. I hadn't thought about reducing the size of my picture. As I said, still LOTS to learn! My camera is 6 MP and I have changed to the highest quality. I am just worried about the years of pictures I have saved that I want to digiscrap. Thanks so much for all of your help. I'll let you know how it turns out when I play around some more.

Kelli
