Bonjour mes amis! We are back from the circus and had a fabulous time, it was really good! We managed to keep it a surprise for the kids, Lyzzie didn't find out until I handed her the ticket at the door and Emma didn't figure it out at all, I had to tell her in the bathroom of all places. The kids each got a little light-up elephant thingy and they were a big hit. There were dancing bears which were SO cute, they walked upright for the whole act and when it wasn't their turn, they walked over to the side and sat on chairs with their legs crossed. I was imagining coming across a bear in the wild sitting like that on a log -- too funny! The clowns were people from our local Shriners chapter and they were truly awful. Not only were their "acts" pathetic, but they had an old guy who insisted on narrating what the clowns were doing. "Oh look, the policeman sees a car coming. He's motioning for him to stop. The driver is looking both ways. The policeman tells him it's clear, so he can cross the intersection. Ohhh, watch out!" The clowns were carrying little pop-up cars and walking around. That's it. And that was their good act!
There was one act that was truly amazing. A man & woman were dancing, and then the woman stepped onto a circle and the man pulled it up over her, it was covered with fabric like a little round fabric cylinder. I swear he only held it up as long as it took to pick it up and put it down, and she was in a completely different outfit. The first time was neat, but they did this about 12 times, none of which took more than a fraction of a second. The man changed his entire outfit too a couple of times. I have no idea how they did it so fast! One of the times, he just wrapped a shawl around her upper body and spun her around and she was in different clothes! For the finale, he threw a bag of confetti over her and she changed her clothes AND her hair color. VERY cool. It more than made up for the gawdawful clowns.
Like a big dope, I of course forgot my camera at home.
Ashley: There were a few tables for 2 on the Carnival cruise I went on. One was next to us and it was a couple on their honeymoon, they wore their wedding clothes to dinner one night and had the top of their cake for dessert. I thought about doing the same thing (since we got "married" on the boat) but really didn't feel like squeezing back into that dress and then having to try to eat in it without slopping on it! I wouldn't want to share a table with strangers either. My parents love it, it's my mom's favorite part of cruising but not me. I eat weird and don't like people watching me eat! I don't drink soda so I don't know about the soda cards, but they seem to be worth it if you do drink sodas regularly. I agree that the most money goes toward excursions. They are very expensive! Research excursions ahead of time and figure out a few choices of what you'd like to do at each stop, because they can fill up quickly. It's also possible to tour the ports on your own, and often you can do the same things for much cheaper, but it's risky because the boat will wait for you if you're with an excursion but if you're on your own and you're late, the boat will NOT wait.
Nicole: I'm with you on Xmas... nobody's getting very much this year! Luckily I don't have too many people to buy for and my parents never want me to "waste" money on them so they usually return anything I give them anyway. My brother and I don't usually exchange gifts, so it's pretty much only the girls that I need to shop for. I always go overboard on them but I'm hoping not to this year. They don't really need anything! I am thinking of getting Lyzzie a Nintendo DS but ONLY if I can find a great deal on one. Lucky for me they are still both young enough that they're impressed with cheap stuff!
