My ds16 and his friend are wanting to hit up Universal or IOA while the rest of us are at WDW (its a birthday present for DS). We will be buying them a one day pass for one of the parks. Does anyone have an opinion on which park for these teen boys who love coasters and more extreme rides? I have no experience with either park. Thanks

IOA, definitely. Here's why:

Hulk--big green coaster with a 40mph launch and 7 inversion
Doctor Doom--150ft shot tower
Spider-Man--3-D simulator/dark ride
Ripsaw Falls--log flume with a 75ft drop
Jurassic Park--slow boat ride with a >80ft drop
Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey--robo arm dark ride with simulator elements and in-your-face animatronics
Dragon Challenge--two inverted (feet dangling) coasters. Each coaster has 5 inversions and 3 near-collisions with the other coaster.

Yeah,IOA has to edge out Universal in the thrills department.Universal does have Hollywood,Rip ,Ride Rockit and Revenge of the Mummy though, which are excellent rides.

:thumbsup2 DS15 and DS12 concur

Although, there is lots of fun to be had a both parks. As much as they like Disney, they were in heaven at Universal Orlando!:goodvibes

IOA by a long shot. US only big thrills are The Mummy (which is great) and Rip Ride Rockit (not so great)

Just a tidbit for you....

The HR3 (Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit) was running tonight during the B-52s concert and you couldn't hear a thing. It's the quietest coaster I've ever been around and if you haven't seen the cars at night, you are missing a real treat! Bright LED lights on every train and you can see them from the parking garage. It's really cool! :teeth:

This. Riding Rockit at night is a treat! And if you use the Rainbow Connection code (902 or 903, I forget), it's just "fitting" :upsidedow

When they shut down Rip Ride Rockit a couple of months ago they apparently fixed a major issue that from what I heard was not only just giving bad rough rides, but might have been a safety concern with the coaster itself.I rode Rockit last week and it was a much better, smoother ride than it was giving before they closed it.

I LOVE the Rockit. Didn't even want to go on at first, thought the first ride up going totally perpendicular was too too scary looking. But after trying it out, it is now my favorite after FJ! I thought it was incredibly smooth, and just lots of fun. Depending on when the kids are going, it would be fun to have a park to park pass.

I would agree with previous posts I O A my son and daughter love both parks but I O A is by far more for teenagers however park hopper tickets will mean you can move from park to park.Enjoy your visit.
