Who has seen "Ghost Ship"?

Help me out here. What the heck happened? I thought it was a pretty good movie until the very end, which totally confused me.

Was the pilot guy who found the ghost ship one of the people on the Italian ship that disappeared? I hate it when I can follow a movie all the way through and then the end comes and I feel like I wasted a couple hours.

My take on that guy was that he was some kind of Grim Reaper type dude. He had to get so many souls damned or marked in order to fill his "quota". So once she kind of fouled up his plot on the other ship he had to move on to another one and as kind of insult to injury you see her former crew going along with him on his next voyage.

That was what my thinking was anyway. Maybe someone else has some other ideas?

Thanks Michelle. That's kind of what I thought it was, but I wasn't quite sure how it all fit together. I'd be interested in hearing other takes on this. I think I need to watch it again.

I saw it... dont remember much about it other than the cool 'cutting in half' part!

But I do think he was some sort of grim reaper dude, like Michelle said.

I may have to watch it again too.... love that one scene! LOL

That was my take on it too - he was enticing new "souls" onto the "Ghost Ship".

I think there was a part of the movie that had an explanation for him. It was the "gathering souls" type motive. He used the gold as an enticement to get more souls. Once he gathered enough souls, he would be released, or something like that. With regards whether he was on the ghost ship during the "parting of the people", I think he was a waiter.
