Who has ridden TSMM standby at rope drop recently?

I understand they hold the line until after the park opening show now? Is it a crazy, mad dash after they let people go? We will be there in less than 2 weeks. We have a fp for it, but I was hoping to ride standby the first thing too, if it's not too crazy!

Just there last week. Its not bad. They let you in early. You get to the hat, and you watch a 5 minute show with Olaf and Frozen summer fun. Then at 9(or opening) they let the rope down and everyone walks(briskly) to TSMM. Its kind of like a running with the bulls, if you have slow walkers stay to the right. Then they funnel you in. Wait times were like 15 minutes max. Once you get off the ride, wait times are easily an hour or more.

Tip: Go through the big arches in front of the animation studios rather than the smaller ones on the side. We watch those get slam packed every time and just laugh as we walk by them. Even the cast members make jokes about the "arch that is significantly larger" as you walk by.

Asked this a few times with no response, maybe someone here will know. How are they handling H&V 8am diners who want to go to TSMM. Are they being sent to the Olaf opening show too?

Can you not just go down the stairs to the left of the arches? Seems like I remember that as the more direct route. Or do they make everybody go through the arches to get to the lower street?

Thanks!

That sounds like a lot of work for one extra ride. We prefer to wait until evening for our Midway Mania rerides. Earlier this summer, we were able to ride it 3 times in just under an hour from 9:15 - 10:10 pm.

The key is to understand that the posted wait times are often greatly exaggerated in the evening. For this ride, the posted time was 75 mins but the actual wait time was about 15.

Thanks for this... taking notes for each day and this is going in the record for DHS day. ;)

We were there 3 weeks ago and did TSM first thing without a FP. When they opened the line after the opening show it was kind of a mad rush to get there but when all was said and done it was about a 15-20 minute wait. Not too bad. The line does build quickly though

Toy Story Mania closes at 8 (or maybe 8:30) during the Frozen Summer Fun because of the fireworks. Lines aren't bad at that time, but they aren't 15 minutes. So riding repeatedly during the evening time isn't much of an option for the summer.

I'd like to know this as well. Have they blocked off the stairs?

Yes there are a wall of CM who help with the herding process. It is a little ridiculous and dangerous IMO . As we were briskly walking in a mass mob the person behind me stepped on the back if my sneaker and it came off. It took several minutes to get the shoe and then I had to walk barefoot because no one let me get to the side to put it on. Then you get funneled into the line with everyone jockeying for position. The wait wasn't bad but we did this three times and it was a nightmare mob each time

FWIW I have been at RD at DHS before the Olaf thing, and it was still kind of a mad dash to get to TSMM (all the way from the park entrance, not just from the hat) and the queues would still be at least 15-20 minutes even right at 9. I don't think that the Olaf show has made this any worse.

Why wouldn't they be sent there? The Olaf show is on the way from H&V to TSMM. Do you think they should get special access to TSMM? (I'm not trying to be snarky just don't understand the question.)

Wasn't sure of the logistics because I've never seen a RD procedure at DHS. Normally they just open up at a random time and you are free to go about your business. But if my first item to do that day is Jedi Training Academy, upon leaving H&V I'd be walking in the opposite direction than the Opening Show, instead of walking back to see the show and over to JA. Pre-Frozen we just would have went straight to JA.

I liked it better when they stopped Rope Drop at all of the parks. Was less dangerous as their wasn't a mass of people going to the same ride. When did they start RD again. Hoping they stop it for our next trip

RD at DHS was just instituted thanks to Frozen. Hopefully both RD and Frozen magically disappear on 09/01
