I have a room booked at the Dolphin (which we love) for Aug. 04. But in looking at the Rent/Trade board, looks like for a little more we can rent a 1BR at BWV. This would give us more space, kitchen and W/D.

I'm just leary about doing this, anyone else have experience with renting points.... how did it go?

I rented points and stayed in a studio at BCV last May. My advise would be to make sure you are comfortable with the person you are renting from. I rented from someone who has been on the boards a long time with many, many posts. Make sure you understand and are comfortable with the cancellation policy and exchange of money. Read the DVC boards for a while to get a feel for it. I had a very positive experiance and would not have been able to afford to stay at the Beach Club if not for renting points. I have to say though, that I was very nervous about the whole thing until we actually checked in at the Beach Club.

I have rented points twice. We stayed at BWV's in June and had a great rental experience.

I am currently renting more points for a stay at OKW in January. The DVC owner I am dealing with has been exceptional and I'm very pleased with how the transaction has gone.

There is a level of trust involved. If you do decide to rent, you will first agree upon a price per point. Then the DVC owner will make a reservation for you in your name. The owner will give you a confirmation number and you can call Member Services and confirm the reservation. That is when money is exchanged. Usually half is payable then, and the rest at a later agreed upon date.

Good luck,

Teresa

I've rented points from 6 DVC members, and all has gone quite well each time. It's a great way to stay at a deluxe property without deluxe prices.:)

We are leaving for the BWV this Friday and staying on rented points.... So far, it has been a very good experience for us. But I feel as does Ursula... Until I actually check in on Friday, I'm not completely comfortable:( . Really no reason to doubt, as our host has been very accomodating and a member for some time now.

We'll post how it went when we return!

I've rented points once and have another trip planned using the same renter. I had a great experience and didn't worry too much before I got there as my person made a point of emailing just before my trip to tell me to let her know how my trip went. I figured if something wasn't right, she wouldn't be asking me that!

I have also helped plan 2 other trips for my sister and a co-worker using the same person. Their trips are coming before mine, but I have no worries for them, either.

There's no way I could afford to stay at a deluxe resort without renting points so I'm really grateful for those DVC members that choose to help us out!

We rented an existing reservation last June. The owner even let us drop a Friday night stay off (since it added a fair amount of points) She had a very clear contract, sent me the confirmation letter with my name, and answered any questions I had. She also had a large feedback rating on EBAY. We ended up with a great BWV studio with a view of the Boardwalk/Epcot. We're looking forward to renting again!

Was even upgraded to a one bedroom upon arrival! A wonderful DISer rented points to me at a very reasonable rate so I could take three girls for the "trip of a lifetime" and it was fantastic! The one bedroom was huge, we had a great experience and the girls are still talking about the wonderful room at BWV and the incredible time they had. The girls (early teen sisters who lost their mother a few years ago and live with my cousins) came back determined to work at WDW one day - perhaps on the college program. I'd do it again in a minute, the price and the place were awesome. I'm trying to figure out how to afford DVC now as I'm spoiled.

As a renter, I understand your nervousness. This agreement requires a lot of trust on both sides. I think it usually ends well. If you would like, I can send you a copy of a general rental contract that a lot of DVCer's use so you can get a feel of what is expected. Most often 50% is due at the time the reservation is made and the remaining 50% is due about 45 days prior to travel.

Enjoy your trip!

We just got back from a stay at BCV on rented points. We had a great experience renting. I read the boards for a while to get the hang of things. The person I rented from has been around for a while, and I felt quite comfortable with the transaction. I payed 30% first, then the other 70% after the reservation was made. He sent my confirmation via email and regular mail.

I would rent points again in a minute! I think we saved something like 1700 over rack-rate on a 2 bedroom villa.:D
