Who has received their faxed requests?

Did you get your room request???

  • Yes - Faxing makes a big difference and I got my request.

  • No - I faxed and still didn't get what I wanted.

Just wondering if faxing requests really makes a difference. Going to the Poly and Contemporary in May and wondering if the requests really make a difference or whether we'd get the same thing without a request.

I didn't send a fax, but I did make requests when I made my reservation, and those were granted.

I think faxing the requests are overrated. We ask at check in and our requests have been granted every time.

We made reservations for a room with a king size bed at POR and faxed in these requests 3 days before:

1. Mansion room
2. 2nd or 3rd floor
3. River view

We ended up getting a mansion room on the second floor with a view of a fountain. So we didn't get everything exactly as we wanted, but a fountain view is definitely better than a pool or parking lot view. I think the fax definitely helped!!

Can answer the poll because...we never faxed requests. I always make our requests on the reservation. We have always received our requests plus last time we were upgraded from standard view to lake view at the Yacht Club. I will never fax a request.

We have never faxed in and never had any luck at check-in with getting the building we wanted, soooo we are going to fax in a request for our stay in April asking for the Dalmations building at ASMo. Does anyone know the fax numbers??? Hopefully, we'll get it this time!

Thanks!

I have never sent a FAX, Always make room request on reservation. (Yet, I have been upgraded three times.)

I faxed in our request to stay in Fiji for May at the Poly....and we got Fiji! :)

I faxed our building request as suggested on Deb's WDW site and got exactly what I requested at POR. We also received a water view (not requested but very much appreciated)--maybe it was the luck of the draw, but faxing sure worked for us!! :earsgirl:

Yes, it worked for us in 2002 at POR. We got everything we asked for, down to the building number! Try it - there is nothing to lose!:earseek:

I faxed requests for out trip last spring at the POFQ and received exactly what I asked for (plus an excellent building - building 5). I think the success with the fax depends on how much you are requesting and the resort. (i.e. at some resorts I think almost everyon makes the same requests).

We had a our first night on a different reservation (due to a last minute change in plans). Both reservations were for standard view rooms.

I requested a non-smoking building (due to health reasons - it triggers my migrane headaches), to please not need to move rooms, and a view of a court yard not parking lot (both of these were considered standard view). I also mentioned that specific building or floor was not that critical to us.

We recevied the same room the entire trip in building 5 (all non-smoking, view of a beautilful courtyard, steps away from the pool and food court), third floor.
We were so happy!!

I always remember that a request is just that - it isn't a guarentee.

Faxing your request definitely helps. We have gotten what we asked for at the GF each time we have faxed one.

I don't want to start a fuss but how do you know that you couldn't have gotten the same requests by putting them in your reservation or asking when you check in?

That's true, I have not tried faxing one trip and then just requesting it upon arrival the next in order to compare the effectiveness of a fax. However, if my requests are important to me, why not try the fax? When we made our ressies, we requested non-smoking and that was all. When we faxed we requested AB in POR close to the food court and again NS. There was a sample fax request on a website or board somewhere and we just used that as a template. Simple.

I think faxing the requests are overrated. We ask at check in and our requests have been granted every time.

This has been true for us, too. Out of our 4 trips, we faxed once, asking for a balcony room at the Beach Club. When we checked in, I had changed my mind and wanted a patio room. When I asked, the CM gave it to us, and threw in a pool view which I didn't even ask for!
The other 3 times, when we didn't fax or even mention anything special on the ressie, we asked at check-in for specific views and always got them.

This was true at Universal, too, when we checked in at the Royal Pacific on-site and asked for a Hulk view. The lady spent a few moments on the computer, and said 'you got it.' Our room was spectacular, with the Hulk, Dr. Doom's Fearfall, and Dueling Dragons right outside our window. And the fireworks at City Walk!

So I guess it doesn't hurt to ask on the ressie and to fax, and many people say it works for them. But I've heard that the CMs are being overrun with faxed requests. A CM on another board said that the faxing was set up as a courtesy for people who have special needs, not preferences.

I hope we all get what we want!

I also read, either on another board or in a newsletter, that certain resorts are no longer accepting faxed requests. I think it mentioned WL, but I'm not entirely sure. The article said that requests must be noted on the original reservation in order to be considered.

With regards to faxing requests, we've had luck sometimes, but not everytime so we really don't bother anymore, we just ask at check-in. At ASMo we requested Toy Story in a fax and got a great room there, overlooking Andy's Room. The 1st time at AKL we made our requests over the phone since the fax # wasn't working so the CM who answered said he'd write down our requests and gave us exactly what we wanted, 2 rooms on the Zebra Trail, 2nd floor, one on the Arusha and one on the Uzima Savannah. The 2nd trip, however, we got a horrible room on the Sunset Savannah, overlooking a people pen on the 5th floor, plus about 6 trees directly in our view of the giraffe feeding station. We hardly ever saw animals, only around midnight. ASMu, we didn't fax anything, just asked at check-in for a pool view (we had a preferred room) and we got a great corner room on the 3rd floor, facing the pool and right next to the main building.

So really, I think it depends on a lot of things, what you request, how busy the resort is, and how specific your request is. I think there is just as good a chance at getting your requests at check-in as if you fax a request.
