Who has booked with Expedia?

My DD is looking at using Expedia for booking her Honeymoon to Mexico. They have a pretty good rate for hotel/flight. I have never used a booking service like this and dont know how it works. Any Expedia users...I would appreciate input

have not had problems with any EXCEPT for expedia. do a search here and you might find threads. They charged me twice for 2 tickets and it was a nightmare to get refunds. called and called and honestly, NEVER again.

I've booked with Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz. My advice is to read the fine print so you know what you are getting into.

I know I had problems once when I ran into weather related delays and because I didn't book directly with the airline the people at the check-in counter were unable to help me. I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what the problem was but I know that what should have been an easy fix (or so I thought) actually wasn't (I think this may have been long ago, before the days of cell phones, so it may be an easier fix now).

But as long as you are really aware of the fine print, I say go with it! I've had success with them and before I was limited to SW (only airline from my local airport) I used them all the time.

ETA: And yes, you do pay for everything up front. Personally I always like to have my vacations paid for before I take them.

We have not used Expedia, but just had a not so great experience with Priceline. Fortunately, the hotel took care of it even though it was not their fault, but I was worried that we were going to be playing a game of everyone blames someone else....

I have to agree with other posters. I have booked with Expedia and didn't have a problem. However, I was in an airport a few years ago and began a conversation with a fellow traveler who flew weekly. She said Expedia and the like are great to find info on flights but when it comes to actually reserving them--ALWAYS, do it directly with the carrier.

My brother got a hotel room a couple of years ago--there were lots of issues and he couldn't get the travel site (Expedia, Orbitz, etc) to help at all. They were miserable for two days.

I've booked many things with Expedia - airfare, hotels, car rentals. I've never had any problems. Everything except the car rentals I've paid for ahead of time. (The advantage of booking airfare with Expedia is that they sometimes find cheaper airfares that combine flights from different airlines.)

I did have a problem with Travelocity many years ago for a stay at a Mexican hotel. When we arrived, they couldn't find our reservation, but it all worked out in the end.

I have booked airfare thru Expedia several times and have never had a problem. I usually dont book a room with the airfare since I have always been able to find a better rate on hotels thru either travelzoo.com of their own websites and dont like haveing to pay for it all upfront. I know with airfare you have to pay upfront no matter where you book but hotels will usually only take one nights for the reservation. Hope thate helps!

As people have already said they are good as long as you don't run into trouble and need help. I usually search expedia for flights and buy direct from the airline. Most hotels will match an expedia price if you let them know that expedia is showing xxx.

Thanks for the replies. Expedia's airfare did seem to be a bit cheaper and there was a discount for booking a package (air and room). Guess I will check into the fine print and investigate some more

DH and I have booked several trips through Expedia in the past including 3 trips to Mexico. We have never had a problem using them. I kow that it can be difficult to make changes and thankfully we have never had to. Buy the trip protection to be safe.

I used Expedia once years ago to book an airline ticket for a flight on a Swedish airline to a small town in Northern Sweden because there was no English version of the airline's website.

Expedia is good for comparing prices, but I prefer to book directly with the airline and hotels. As mentioned, if something goes wrong, you have to depend on Expedia to deal with the problem, rather than going directly to the airline and that can be a nightmare.
