For a summer 2003 trip, I was thinking of going to these Texas parks:

Six Flags Astroworld
Six Flags Over Texas
Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Sea World Texas

I think I will make my 100th coaster either Titan or Mr. Freeze at Six Flags Over Texas. Who has been to these parks? How are they?

My other thought was to go go Missouri and do Silver Dollar City, Celebration City, Worlds or Fun, Six Flags St. Louis, and possibly Holiday World.

I'm saving California for 2004 because TOT is opening at DCA then! :)

Titan is awesome! Ride that one.....:D

I haven't ridden the big coasters at 6 Flags but my 11yo DD coaster expert says:

I've been to 6 Flags over Texas. Best ride there is Mr Freeze, second is Titan and 3rd is Batman. All of them are better than Hulk.

I'm sure you could get a Dallas area DIS group there too.

We've done a 6 Flags meet before :)

Barry.....Come to Texas we have some great coasters here. All those parks have some really good coasters. Superman at Fiesta is great. Great White at Sea World--not to be missed. Astroworld has sveral good coasters. I know there are one or 2 in dallas-Six Flaggs but I havent been in a few yrs so memory is not up to par on that park. Let me know when you are coming and I will check on the season pass price for the Six Flaggs Parks--we get a discount thru our credit union (they give you a voucher and you take care of the pic part at the park and you can get into all those parks with that 1 season pass.

We haven't been to any of those parks recently but I can give you our impressions of them. We don't ride the big coasters so we can't tell you much about them.

Its been about four years since we were at Fiesta Texas but we liked it. We never seemed to find enough water fountains where we could just get a drink of water. It was hot because it sits down in a quarry, not much air flow. Has a water park in the theme park which is part of the admission fee. Had better theming than any of the four parks listed. Weekday crowds were great.

Sea World - last year. Weekday crowds were very manageable. Same water situation as Fiesta Texas, maybe a little better. I've heard that the one in Florida is better. Lots of walking but lots of shade.

Astroworld - three years ago. We thought this park was very run down. Needed lots of paint and care. We went one afternoon after it had rained all morning and it wasn't very crowded. It has a lot more coasters than other rides. Won't go back unless they fix it up. Maybe they have by now. Tip - you have to park at the Astrodome and cross over on a bridge over the highway to get there.

Six Flags - last year. This park will always have a place in my heart. I have been going there since it opened. Used to have better theming, more like Disney World. More of just a amusement park now. It was cleaner than I have seen it in a long time. Seems they were making a big effort improve their appearance. Harder to get around than before. They have blocked off some of the walkways they used to have. Went on a Wednesday and the crowds were very manageable. My in-laws went on the Titan and said its a "not to be missed coaster". Expect a wait for this one and not much shade in the line.

I doubt Astroworld will ever be cleaned up. It's been run down for years. My kids go because they love the roller coasters they of course dont care how dirty it is as long as the coasters are there!

Don't waste your time on Astroworld. It's a total dump and the coasters are mediocre at best. Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and Six Flags Over Texas are much better.

I've been to Six Flags over Texas many times. They do have some great coasters, but it's no WDW. :) Titan is great. You really feel the g's on the helix and the first drop is awesome! The Giant is a fabulous woodie, but it's a rough ride. Mr. Freeze is intimidating to look at, especially when it's swaying in the breeze, but exhilirating once you get on it. Batman is my favorite. There are a few other minor coasters as well.

I've been to Sea World, but didn't do the coasters there. They looked great though. Nice water park.

Never been to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

I used to go to Astroworld as a kid, but I haven't heard anything good about it in 20 years.

I don't believe the Six Flags season pass is good at Sea World, but it would be a bargain for the other parks. :)

It would be great to see you again, Barry, and get to spend a bit more time together. I know Rhonda S. would want to be there as well. :)

Hope to see you in Texas soon. :teeth:

Some pictures from our last Six Flags over Texas excursion.

How can you resist this group Barry?

I was there last season. It was still run down then. I passed on a chance to go for free this season because the thought of peeling paint and the "I don't give a **** attitude" of the kids working there was more than I wanted to put up with that weekend.

Titan is AWESOME!

Mr. Freeze is better in my opinion just because it's so cool at night when you go straight up and it looks like your never going to stop, just then they drop you just as fast as you took off!

I have been to all of them. I think there is so much to do in San Antonio, with both Fiesta Texas and Sea World....also the # 1 ranked water park, Schlitterbahn is just about a half hour away in New Braunfels. San Antonio also has the Riverwalk and the Alamo. As far as the rollercoasters go....my kids like the Rattler at Fiesta Texas and the other coaster rides at the park and the coaster at Seaworld is my daughters favorite.
I have been to the park in Houston a couple of times and don't care for it. The park in Dallas is nice, but feels small.

It just keeps getting worse. I can't understand why it's even still open. We went last month for our company picnic, and DS lost count of how many rides were broken down. Big rides, like Serial Thriller and Greazed Lightnin'. The train broke while we were on it. There was trash piled up everywhere, rotted wood falling down, peeling paint, and possibly 5 ever-so-helpful people working in the park. We left by noon.

Six Flags operates some great parks in other places -- why don't they just sell off Astroworld if they don't want it??

Off to go get nostalgic now about the days when Astroworld had the Alpine Sleigh Ride, and the Astrowheel, and the Black Dragon... :(

Hey neighbor!

I used to love those ride's too when I was younger! I worked there when I was 16 and made some really good friends. It is sad the park is not the same as it was then. We had the best time going there and working there. I havent had any prob's though with rides not working, they were going when we were at the park. Remeber the parking lot trams they used to have?? I drove one when I worked there, lol (one season that is).

OK, thanks for the replies! I think I will do these:

Sea World Texas
Six Flags Over Texas
The water park (maybe)
Sandy Lake Amusement Park (I need the credits!)

Fiesta Texas is a nice theme park-been there many times. Sea World coasters are great. If you like coasters though, come to the #1 rated waterpark in America, Schlitterbahn, in New Braunfels, TX, just 30 miles northeast of San Antonio. Ride the best waterpark ride ever, The Master Blaster water coaster! But get there early. The line becomes 2-3 hours long before you can blink.
