I am a big chicken, but I would like to get a small Disney-related tattoo. If you have one, tell me about it. And most importantly, was it painful?

I get a Disney tattoo on every trip to Disney! It's not painful at all... in fact, it's a most pleasant and enjoyable experience.

The sad part is, though, that after a few days it disappears :( Dang temporary tattoos! ;)

(Actually, I am much like you... I'd love to get one, but when it comes to pain, I am a major weenie. :o )

I asked this before.

I've been contemplating a small Mickey tattoo but I'm not sure if I can handle the pain. I'm a bit of a whimp when it comes to pain! My husband has a tat and he said it wasn't bad. Be sure to get it where there is some fat!

I originally wanted one on my shoulder blade, but DH told me that will be way too painful, as there's no fat there. So now I'm thinking at the bottom of my calf, above the ankle. That's kinda fatty. I don't want to put one on my butt, even if there is enough fat there.

I found this paragraph online.

"According to Hudson (1999), the most painful areas for men are considered to be the abdomen, spine, and chest. The most painful areas for women are considered the spine and ankle. The least painful areas for men are the buttocks and arm, and the least painful areas for women are the abdomen, buttocks, thigh and shoulder. In general, the areas near joints will hurt more because there are more nerves located there" (http://www.pamf.org/teen/health/bodyart/bodyart_gettingitdone.html)

and this one for what the pain feels like

"Does it Hurt?
Everybody has a different threshold for pain. What will hurt one person can be simply annoying to someone else. How much a tattoo hurts is dependent on your individual tolerance for pain. There are areas more sensitive than others that is the same for everybody. Generally the 'meatier' the area the less it hurts. The closer to bone or tendons the more it hurts. Likewise certain areas are exposed to the elements, such as the back and outside parts of the arm, and tend to hurt less than more protected areas, like the inside of the arm, thigh or stomach. Women also tend to be more tolerant of pain than men, specially around the stomach area.

The pain associated with tattooing has been described as feeling like a) a bad sunburn, b) a bee stinging several times, c) a cigarette burn and d) a bad scrape. In most cases the pain diminishes after a few minutes when your body's natural pain killers (endorphins) kick in." (http://www.msu.edu/~krcmari1/individual/getting.html)

I hope this helps

My friend is a Lion King nut, and has Simba tatood on her, umm, I guess low on her hip, but a bit more to the front. You can only see it if she's wearing a low-cut bikini bottom. She said it hurt but it wasn't that bad.

BF is thinking of getting Mickey on his shoulder. It's going to represent me, since he thinks getting my name tatooed would be tacky (I agree!).

I have a tattoo on my left shoulder blade... trust me, it wasn't near as painful as I thought it would be. The scrape is most accurate for mine... would be like taking a coathanger or fingernail (nothing that could easily pierce skin) and dragging it along your skin so you'd see a mark. That's the outlining only... the shading was easy and almost painless. The skin was a bit "tight" afterwards but not bad at all.

I have a Hidden Mickey in a red rose... wouldn't change it for the world :)

I have 2 (though not Disney related - that's next) and they really didn't hurt bad at all. One is on my shoulder blade and the other is on my hip. It was more irritating than painful.

I would like to get a Sorcerer Mickey holding a crystal ball with my daughter's name inside the ball, but I don't know where to get it.

I say if you really want one, go for it. Just make sure it is not something you will regret later on.

I had a little Mickey outline done on my hand just above my wrist about the size of the Mickey confetti you find all over the parks. It was supposed to look like a large freckle.
I took good care of it, cleaning it faithfully and putting the tattoo cream on it 3 times a day. It healed nice and looked good. then around day 10 it peeled off.
I now have what looks like a burn on my wrist, in a slight Mickey design, more round than Mickey.
I work at a mental health hospital and we have tons of people who come in after hurting themselves. Their favorite thing to do is burn themselves with cigarettes on their wrists. Well my tattoo looks like their burn marks.
I am planning on going back and getting this done over, but with health issues right now I have to wait, but I didn't burn my arm, I swear it is a tattoo that went wrong. Peggie

I have one. Not Disney related. I wouldn't say it hurt. Labor hurts!!!!!!!! This felt like someone was scratching the same area for an hour and a half. It was more annoying than painful. I would definitely get another one. I just don't know where I'd want another one.

I have six........yes SIX....LOL!

I have Mickey and Minnie on my left shoulder.....its shows when I wear sleeveless shirts.

I have my DH's name on my ring finger.

I have a ankle bracelet with a kitty cat and hearts.

I have Tinkerbelle sprinkling Pixie Dust around my belly button (since I am to big to wear belly shirts you only see it if I show it to you.)

I have a tribal design very big with a butterfly across my lower back.....again you only see it if I show it to you.

and finally, I have the word PRINCESS (yes I'm a Princess, just ask my DH :p ) and a crown across my neck right under the hairline.

The one on my neck hurt like HECK!!!!! None of the others did though, they were all like Helenabear described just scrapeing.....the one on my neck was pretty bad. The guy had to remind me to breathe. I ""Could"" have chickend out after the first two lines on it but that would have looked awful so I stuck in there. For a first time tatoo I would definatly NOT recommend your neck!

I have two butterflies on my hip and I would love to get Tinkerbell on the otherside.

I agree with the others. More annoying than painfull.

Just remember before you do anything. Think it thru and than think it thru again. Think about placement. Because once it is done it is done. Make sure it is something that you really want.

 I'm gettin' one! My husband wants one (not Disney) and
I told him that I will get either a mickey or Tinkerbell. Small and somewhere covered by clothes. I have a small shamrock on my outer ankle. That's a tight area of skin and it did hurt, but like the previous poster mentioned, if you have gone thru labor; this feels like a massage::yes::

Beauty- did you get your art from the tattoo artist, or find it in a book & bring it in? I'm trying to figure out what to bring in with me. Thanks

Beauty - you've really convinced me. If you can do SIX, I can do one. Now, I just need to figure out what design I want. That could take a year in itself - Disney is so... infinite.:D

I have Pooh on my ankle, I've had it for 9 years now and it still looks great!

I'm going to get a Mickey one before our trip down, just trying to figure out where.

I also have a tattoo on my shoulder. The shoulder hurt way more than the ankle. Both tattoos hurt way more than my piercings!

Just remember, you can't get just one! My sister said she'd get just one, now she has 5!

I have been contemplating Tink on my lower back...but it seems soo many have Tink...and others on their lower back...I want something a 'little' different. I have a dolphin on my ankle...and it really didn't hurt.... a little painful and uncomfortable...but not unbearable..

:) grinningghost,
Talk to anyone you see with tattoos when you are out and about. You'll get a good idea on tattoo shops in your area that do good work and you'll get to see the many spots that people choose to get tattooed. OK, so hopefully you won't have to see all the places,LOL.
When you have a better idea of what you may want, go to the shops and see if you like them - is it clean and are you comfortable there with the artists. Also, ask if they will make up some on transfer paper for you, they may charge a little but you'll get a good idea of how it looks and if its the right size for that area.
I'm 36 and got my first tattoo with my oldest son when he graduated HS. I have a little bear with 4 suns overhead on my upper arm, can be seen in a tank top but not a T-shirt. Didn't hurt at all getting it, the next day the area felt kinda like when you scrape your knee.
Earlier this summer my next oldest graduated and we got our tattoos in June. This time I was "brave" and choose to have symbols for love, peace, and happiness done on the inside of my wrist. I had been told it was a real sensitive area and it did feel kinda like a "burn". Not enough for me to say stop during it or anything and I think I'll tattoo the other wrist next so.... it couldn't be that bad!
They are addicting!! Good luck they are such fun to have!!
:wave2: Kristy

I did both....I brought the Tinkerbelle picture from the internet and the artist drew it for me. Then I explained to him how I wanted the pixie dust to come around my belly button.

The Mickey and Minnie also came from a picture online.

My lower back came from one of his sheets.

My ankle one came from a sheet but I also showed him a picture of my cat and he did the cat in the middle of the design. Its gorgeous!

I got my Princess one done in Las Vegas. I went in and told the artist that I wanted simply the word princess and possibly a crown and he drew it up for me in less than a minute. I was really impressed.

Here is a pic of my neck, its still red, this was taken right after I had it done,

I have Tigger on my left thigh. Right below my shorts hemline. Easy to cover and only shows when I am doing something casual.

I got mine about 2 months ago. It is a nice Tinkerbell on my left shoulder blade. It is pretty big, probably over 7 inches from wing tip to bottom. If my husband was home, I would get him to post a pic for me, but I don't know how.
I asked alot of people if it was going to be painful and everyone told me no. Well, it was very painful, but over with quickly. It really did hurt though. It felt like someone was cutting me. I was shocked to see it bleeding when it was over with and it was swollen for a few days. I had to keep it wet with a vasoline type lubricant that the tattoo parlor gave me for 10 days.
Now, it is beautiful and I wouldn't regret getting it at all. I am very pleased with it. I got compliments like crazy when I was in Disney World last month!
