Remember when perfect attendance (PA) used to be a big deal? Did any of you parents out there have PA? Are you trying for your children have it as well? I had PA from 4th thru 12th grades. I got an award each year and special accolades at graduations. The other kids' parents always seemed impressed. I must admit, it did feel nice (especially if I couldn't get any other award ;) ). DD-9 has never had it. I don't like for her to miss school, though. But, when she's sick - oh well, maybe she'll get Miss Congeniality :thumbsup2

I had it in first grade and that was it...my daugher will NEVER have it LOL..last year she missed 30+ days and this year so far 7 and I am taking her out next week for a day since i am taking off from work and we are going to have a fun day together. and took her out a day in Nov to go to Radio City Music hall to see the Christmas show....I take her out most every year for vaction so she won't ever have perfect attendance plus the years I don't take her out got vacation I give her 2-3 days "personal days" where she can just stay home or take off the same time as me to have some fun (just as long as there is not a scheduled test that day!). She doesn't care that she doesn't have perfect attendance...they give them a little certificate the last day of school if they do...

I had perfect attendance in high school (10th, 11th and 12th grade). :)

I had perfect attendance all but one year in High School.

My oldest DS went longer. Except for missing two hours in 7th grade he had perfect attendace from 3rd grade thru high school!

I don't think I ever got perfect attendance. We moved so much that I was never in the same school for a full year until high school. I did go to school with a guy that got a special award for never missing a day of school in his whole school career. My middle daughter had perfect attendance last year.

Yep, I had perfect attendance until the 9th grade when I got mono and was out of school for 2 months. 10th and 11th grades I had PA then 12th grade I missed 2 weeks to go on a family vacation.

I had perfect attendance in 6th grade, my DD got it in 8th grade.

My son, well, he's a different story. He's got asthma and misses school occaisionally.

I never missed much school but never had perfect attendance. I would miss a day or two and that was about it.

I am NOT trying for my kids to get perfect attendance. I know plenty of parents that think this is something to brag about so they send their kids to school, sicker then anything and everyone else ends up sick too!

I had it every year but 2 or 3. I was hardly ever sick.

DD has only had it 1 year. She missed it last past 2 years because we took her out for a day to go on a trip.

I did. My mom was a teacher and a single mom so there was no one to watch me when I was too young to stay at home alone. Since she really couldn't miss school, I couldn't either. I was never pulled out for vacations either since she couldn't take them.

I didn't care about perfect attendence and neither did anyone else. No one was impressed. I think if anything people were sad that I was dragged into school feeling sick and annoyed if I got their kids sick. In HS I was allowed to stay home alone but it was always a fight.

My DS starts kindergarten next year and we are already trying to decide when we will pull him out for vacation. Funny thing is that my mom is encourging it.

this was me too.

I didnt even come close.

My kids do pretty well they have each missed maybe one day this whole year. They will miss a half day this week as we leave for Disney but its the last Friday ( half day ) before Spring Break, what are they going to learn anyway??? LOL

I had perfect attendance several times while in school. I remember at the end of the school year, our school handed out certificates to everyone who had perfect attendance.

The school that my kids go to do not do this - they do nothing for perfect attendance. My oldest has had perfect attendance in Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grades. He has missed one day this year. My other son has not missed a day this year.

I took off for Jewish Holidays each year, so I never got it. It used to annoy me, but I was a bit of a nerd that way.

My kids' school is a bit odd with this--they do PA awards per grading period. :confused3 I remember it being a yearly thing when I was in school but I don't remember ever getting them. I knew the "thermometer on the lightbulb" trick a bit too well. :lmao:

Our high school waived final exams for anyone with perfect attendance. I can recall in 10th grade 2 weeks before school was out being sicker than sick and still going just to miss finals. Not a good reward as far as I am concerned.

The other 2 years of high school, I missed days as I wanted to take finals as better prep for college. Missed over 10 days each year.

Our son missed 12 days of kindergarten, as did most of his class. He has missed 5 this year. We would rather keep the child home if sick than have a piece of paper on the wall showing he did not miss a day of school.

You don't necessarily have to assume that those with perfect attendance all dragged themselves to school sick. The year that I got it, truly, I just never got sick that year. At all. The year that my DD got it, she was never sick.

So far, we are over halfway through the school year and neither one of my kids has missed a day of school for being sick. They each haven't had anything more than a head cold.

I'd rather my kids earn recognition to be on honor roll than be worried about perfect attendance.

I keep them home from school when they are ill, even with a head cold. If they display symptoms of being ill per their school system policy then I will keep them home.

:confused3

Never had it and made fun of the kids who did it. I would take one day per month off just because. And no it did not hurt my education.

My brother would run it under hot water.....then one day he dropped it and it broke in the sink. He told mom and she went to clean it up and found the water was hot....off to school he went.
