Who get MB send by mail????

I'm trying to find out how MB works but I can't really figure out why some people get to choose color and get the bands send to their home address and some has to pick them up at check in. So what is the different and how does it work for international guests???

International guests can customize MBs and will get them at check-in. Guests with a U.S. mailing address are sent their MBs about a month before their trip.

MagicBands are only shipped to US addresses. All others will receive their MagicBands at check-in.

My understanding is the folks who were getting the plain gray ones at check in did not customize their bands through MDE before they arrived. They were selected at check in.

Our experience was that my DW saw the magic band option to customize on the MDE site, which opted us in. She customized them and they sent them off to us via mail. We did this less than a month before we were scheduled to arrive.

There was a timer which said we had to customize them by such and such a day before the trip, probably to allow them time to mail them.

And international guests customize but they pick up at the resort.

There's a slight difference in how they work for international guests besides that we don't get them mailed to us.

We have to pick up bands at the resorts like people have already said. You customize them on MDE by the date it tells you to, and then you're done. As a Canadian, we had trouble at first "unlocking" our customization options because it wouldn't let us input our home address, we kept getting an error. It needs the address to determine you're not in the US. I figured out that if you confirm your address on the app not on the computer you don't get the error and you can then customize.

International guests have to customize their bands by the 30 day mark before their trip like everyone else, however they don't ship right after that. You'll actually be able to customize your bands until closer to 10 days before your trip (but do it by 30 just to be safe). I called because I was worried our bands still hadn't been finalized and shipped, and was told they're usually sent to the resort about 10 days in advance. Ours finally shipped 5 or 6 days before.

Thanks for the answers, that clears a lot. But isn't it a pricy deal if WDW ship bands to all US resort guests?? And what about returners? Do they get new bands every time?? That seems like a waste....

I don't think the bands cost that much. Looking at the presentation boxes they come in it wouldn't surprise me if the boxes cost more than the bands to make, and likewise for the shipping. Don't worry though; it's all added into the resort costs in some way

I think they are still working out the details of how this is all going to work. Right now it seems that they are issuing different bands for each visit, though that could change once the system is rolled out and fully stable. MDE seems to automatically give the MB option with each reservation. We suddenly added onto our booking about 10 days ago, so we are doing a split stay now. I got to customize a new set of bands for that stay too. However we chose our colors wisely, because I am fully prepared for them to ask us to reuse any previously assigned bands at any point, though I am sure there will be an option to get new ones. If they charge a nominal fee for a new band, they could be raking in the cash on that. It's always the little extras that get the guests in the wallet

The long term concept is you keep you mb and use it on return trips.

In practice, this is only working some of the time at the moment.
