I've been told that last year, SW Airlines offered similar rates to the $39 to Florida they've got going on right now.

Did anyone fly to Orlando on that kind of rate? If so, WHEN did the rate become available.

I'm just wondering how far in advance should I "hold out" for cheap rates ~ before I go on and book my flight.

Thanks for your help!

I flew out of Jackson last September, and my rate was $49 each way. It was going for $39 each way for about a week before I bought my tickets, but I didn't jump on it soon enough. I learned my lesson, and I've booked for the $39 fare for May. It was too good of a deal to pass up.

Now, as far as I can remember, I think I booked my trip late---probably close to the end of August for a trip on the second week of Sept. (We went to Night of Joy, and I would highly recommend that if you're going to be there Sept. 9 to the 11th.) I'm guessing those rates came out sometime around the middle of August, but I can't be sure. Sign up for their e-mails, and they'll send their latest fare specials right to ya!

As far as September traveling goes, the rates everywhere were almost at rock bottom, so I'd hold out for a great rate on rooms. I had an AP rate at Pop Century for $49 during that time. The parks were almost deserted until around the third week in Sept.---this was right around the time of the hurricanes. We missed them, and I was so glad! I would love to go back again during that time, but I think I'm going to try for October and MNSSHP and the Food/Wine Fest in Epcot.

Good luck with your airfare planning. Also FWIW, I think SW is kind of flexible about giving credits if you book at one fare and then find a cheaper fare for the same date and the same times. There is only one flight out of Mississippi on SW, so I think you should be okay there. Call SW and ask them though in case you want to make sure. They've always been very helpful to me.

Mine was $49 out of NY. But, we didn't get to use it because of the hurricanes. They did let me pick any other time to travel at the same price, as long as it was an internet rate.

I didn't fly in Sept, but remember how bummed I was that we were going in October and were paying $99 each way vice $39 each way if we had flown in Sept. I want to say I saw those fares well into summer.

We went in September last year and I believe we paid around $135 (including taxes, etc.) per person out of Louisville, Kentucky.

We flew out of Buffalo last Sept...in between hurricanes, We literally landed as Ivan was leaving and left 5 hours before they closed the airport for Jeanne.

We paid $49.00. However that was the cheapest out of Buffalo cause I checked every day. Unless there was a really quick sale I missed. This price become avail about 2 months ahead of time.

I am patiently waiting for the end of October.......please SW release dates......lol

This year we booked a Ding! fare of $59 each way, and were able to reduce one of the legs to $30/each way, so we ended up with a credit. The fares are out there - you just have to be really flexible with your dates.

Good luck!

We flew Sept 2004 for $59 each way. I believed we booked in around May/June last year.

Book the flights you want and then when the cheaper ones come out you can switch and they will give you a credit. They love giving you cheaper fares and making you happy :teeth: . I flew Southwest this morning and had a great flight with cheery flight attendants. Funny too- we had touched down and one of them says "wait wait we should turn around, we missed our exit". I fly all the time with them and have never had a bad experience.

Even when they left my luggage on the boarding ramp. It was supposed to be carry on and there was no room for it so they gate checked it and forgot everything that was gate checked- word to the wise, NEVER leave your keys and wallet in your carryon if they are gate checking it :rotfl2: someone found out the hard way. I would have been upset but I was flying home so it was just annoying.

I booked on Southwest w/ Ding fare and bought 5 adult roundtrip tix for $410 total!! I was pretty psyched! Now I wish I wouldve added an extra day or two on the trip!!!

I flew at the end of September on Southwest for $49 dollars for one way. I booked maybe a month and a half in advanced and the the flight was half empty. I also saw $49 dollar fares from U.S. Airways and Delta at the same time too. I flew back on Delta for $49 one way as well. :cool1:

So I guess I just need to be patient and wait till it gets closer to September! But I'm eager to book!
