Who fills their own stocking?

at my house stockings are an excuse for candy. My mom fills them. And its the good candy too. Gourmet chocolate and Andes bars. One of them had Almond Roca in it. We take stockings seriously.

We usually fill each others, while buying things for our own along the way but this year I was the only one who bought things for our stockings. I was a little disappointed - I was hoping for one little surprise - but DH was surprised at the things I bought for him, so that's something.

I'll just have to buy a little more for myself next year!

Growing up, my mom always filled the stockings... when I was a teen, I noticed that she didn't have anything in hers, so my dad & I started filling her stocking.

She loved Christmas, and was one of those who would begin counting the days til Christmas in January. She also was one of those who spent the year getting us things for Christmas, but would never tell us what she wanted, so we had to pay attention. My dad would buy her expensive things, but she almost always had to exchange the clothes he got her -- just cause they were expensive didn't mean that they were to her taste. One year when he complained that she always returned the stuff he got her I recommended he get her what she likes and not what he wanted to see her in. Oops, I digress...

Now we just fill the kids stockings. I haven't had a stocking in about 10 years.

Dh and I don't do any gifts for each other, we haven't in a really long time. I do all the shopping for the girls and it is no problem. He would have no clue what to get for them. We don't do "stockings". I get them a gift bag and fill it with items like new toothbrushes, razors, chapstick, purse size tissues, some candy, etc. I never had stockings growing up either.

Dh and I fill each others stockings as our gift to each other. DH doesn't get it. Fortunately I don't really care and get a chuckle out of it. No matter how many times I discuss it with him, trying to set exact perameters, dh buys ONE thing. Sometimes it's even too big to fit in the stocking and usually something I would never want in a million years.

When the kids were younger, I supplemented my stocking so it looked like there was something in it. It was a good time to pick up extra gadgets for the kitchen or office supplies. Now I just put in some candy while I'm filling the other stockings and call it good. My gift in my stocking this year was a "Brady Bunch season one" DVD. It actually fit in the stocking, but I can't imagine why he thought I'd like it. He must of gotten it mixed up with the LOST season one DVD I would have loved - LOL!

I'm going to have the boys start helping me choose things for their Dad's stocking to start training them early for when they get married!
