To celebrate? Well, this weekend will be really busy and I'm sure we would have had to make plans a while back, lol. We don't have plans to go back until ESPN the Weekend (unless we take a quickie trip for the Everest Preview).

Uraken, never too crowded :hug:

Welcome GoofyDad, sorry about the threadkiller thing....we've all been there, but you can't kill this one and are welcome to join in :hyper2:

Busy Friday Everybody???

Back to my trip report I guess :scratchin

I'll go back...to 2 days before we arrived at AKL...

~~~insert wavy screen shot here~~~
Mom, Britt and I were going to get on the road at 5am :earseek:
Mom showed up at our house, we were not ready and could not be in the 15 minute window she gave us to be....so she went home and said she'd be back at 9 :confused3
Come 9am, she had returned and we were up and just about ready...loading up the car took us just over 30 minutes, we said goodbye to my hubby and we were off :moped:
There were three huge accidents on 95 before we even hit VA:
The first one had one lane blocked, a truck rear ended a school bus and looks like it went under the bus and caught on fire...pretty ugly for the truck driver I'm sure :(
The second one had traffic STOPPED!A big rig rear ended another big rig...this one definitely had a fire. We were lucky and smart...we folowwed a few cars thru an access for emergency vehicles into a carpool lane and bypassed about 20 miles of totally stopped traffic.
The thirs was on the other side of the highway...we saw a truck that had been capped (hit the roof and ripped it partially off) and as we passed it we saw what it probably hit. You know those green overhead signs, waaaay up above the road? Well this one was totally on the ground all the way across the road. Traffic on that side was again TOTALLY blocked.
We pack a cooler to avoid having to stop to buy food or beverages, the only stops we needed to make were potty stops...Brittany drinks alot of water so Mom still had issues with how often we needed to use facilities but obliged us anyway.
Thankfully, that was the end of our delays. It took us 5 hours to travel 3. We managed to get to our hotel in Santee around 8:30pm, checked in was easy-they had us at the front near the lobby and I respectfully requested that if we could get a room in the "old" section. They had one for us...it's quieter there and the rooms are nice and big.
The next am we checked out, very easily and headed over to waffle house for some breakfast. There good if you want fast and cheap. Their coffee's not half bad either ;)
We were off to Jacksonville to meet with a couple of special threadkillers and their families...
Good Morning all :teeth:
Colleen,
:hyper: MORE, MORE, MORE! ::yes::
The drive was rather uneventful...
We made it to Jacksonville fairly early in the afternoon, and since the area Susan (Tinknutt) lives in is very congested we decided to meet up at her local mall.
A few phone calls, some starbucks coffee (for Susan) and a sock purchase (for me) later we were off to her home.
Getting out of the mall was a real challenge-it was two days to Christmas after all-but we made it without losing each other.
Susan has a lovely home, we got a quick tour and were shown to our room...she even did the hotel towels with soap and lotion bit for us...I got lavender, it smells yummy and is said to be a very relaxing scent. We met her youngest son on his way to work, he's actually alot like my Brittany only in male form ;) Great Kid with a good head on his shoulders.
Before I knew it Ann had come over! Was it that late already?
We said our hellos, and got all our hugs in and headed to the pc to get on the DIS...we chatted until it was time to open our gifts, which I must say was another wonderful experience. Ann and I seem to have been the onyl ones who stayed within the $20 rule tho :blush:
We went out to Carabbas for dinner, learned we should have and could have called ahead for seating. We waited so long the guys went and had dinner somehwere else and were finished before we got our seats.
Dinner was good the company was better, Mom's favorite was the Italian speaking lessons in the restroom ;)
We made it back to the tinknutt home around 9pm...it was Ann's bedtime. She stayed for a little bit but had to go home cause it was getting late. Susan, Mom and I watched Polar Express while Britt caught up with her friends on her MySpace.
We headed to bed after the movie, we had another ealry morning the next day...5am again...thank you Susan and Ann for the wonderful company, opening of your home and coffee, tea and hot chocolate that really hit the spot so early in the morning. :yawn:
Hi Betsy! :wave: How are you and Mike :groom: and Schatzie :dog: this fine morning?
Our puppy likes to wake me for her morning potty break and breakfast...so much for sleeping in - of course now I am wide awake and she's asleep on the floor next to me
Here's the AKL portion - just as a recap
Animal Kingdom was Faaaabulous Dahling!
We left Susan (tinknutt's house) before the crack-o-dawn, totally missed any traffic into Orlando and made it to the airport to pick up Britt's friend Stefanie an hour ahead of schedule. We arrived at AKL around 11:30 and our room was ready for us :teeth: We were upgraded to pool view too!
The girls and I were very tired from traveling and getting up early so I headed for the jacuzzi and took some pictures while they napped. Mom said she was going to downtown and wound up taking herself to Epcot. By the time the girls got up and I got dressed Mom was done epcot and told us she was headed to dtd.
I only went to DTD to get the girls to disney quest and buy our nye tickets at the house of blues...turns out the only tickets left had to be purchased online :confused3 so I headed back over to AKL and hooked up with some friends who were already there.
Of course I picked up a hoodie for Britt on my way out, that she saw at planet hollywood, for a Christmas gift.
Aisling (from NY) and her two boys (13 & 20), Nan (from San Jose CA) her hubby, two kids (5 & 8) and sister were all there and ready for a mini meet. Nan was staying on concierge so we all headed up to her room. This was the first time we'd ever met face to face so there was a lotta hugging and hellos. Wilson (Nan's 5yo boy) and Paul (Nan's hubby) had their hair done in the Magic Kingdom and saved their new do-s for us to see! They both had pixie dist and spikes with hidden mickey's on the back.
Nan let me on her laptop to buy my nye tickets so that worked out very well for us. $145 later we all headed up to the concierge lounge for some shots-o-Baileys and cookies. The server there was great with the kids. An engineer by trade, can build rockets, but would rather wait on folks at disney and enjoy his life instead. They had airplane and rocket building competitions while the adults did the drinking and toasting.
The girls and I grabbed a bite at Mara, $27 for chicken nuggets, a salad and a burger and drinks. They had a great time at DQ, no crowd at all.
The next morning we did Boma for breakfast, very very nice, we met with the rest of our cruising group-John and Dede from Phoenix-had a great breakfast and we all went our seperate ways to prepare to head to the port. My group drove to Port Canaveral in Mom's car and the 9 of them took the DCL bus.
