Who else woke up to this today???

Was up at 4:45 a.m today with a temp of around 4 below zero. Went out to deliver the morning newspaper. All 115 of them. Our hands were so cold even with gloves on. We have been delivering the newspaper in our town since last year in early July. Every cent we earned went towards our up coming cruise. Our last day to deliver is the Feb 17th. I can't wait to deliver that last paper. We leave March 12th for Orlando. Each morning as I was forcing myself out of bed I kept saying think of the cruise, think of the cruise. Can't wait.

Hey, MJ! that could be a photo of my neighborhood, maybe we have a little more snow. Beautiful!

I got all the way into my office this morning and they decided to close the building. Very, very unusual for us to close, almost unheard of. My DD's school was closed Thurs and today for illness. They had a high percentage of absentees so they closed. So she would have been off today anyway. She had a ball in the snow. She is a beach baby AND a snowbunny. Me, I had fun driving this morning, you just have to know how, and there was hardly oanyone else on the road.

I spent the afternoon making a pot of Beef stew, a pot of chili, and a batch of chicken cacciatorre. Anyone hungry???

Hope everyone is dug out and safe and sound. Stay warm! Pull out your pictures from the last cruise.;)

Just came in after spending two hours digging out the car and shoveling the driveway. My DW had a nice HOT meal waiting for me when I came back inside.:D
Philadelphia International Airport official snow total came in at 7 inches. We are just across the river from the airport and I agree with the 7 inches, this equaled the snowfall we had in early December. Last winter we lucked with a grand total of four inches for the entire winter season, we're making up for it this year.:(
Time to check out some more threads!

We were forcast to get 2-4 inches, with a foot towards the Cape. WE now have a foot of snow and it is falling at a rate of 2 inches and hour. it is not expected to stop for another 3-4 hrs. Gotta love New England!!

aa4mom,

I bet you are really looking forward to that cruise now, aren't you???

sandygirl; you must come from the same upbringing as I; "when there's snow outside, there MUST be something cooking on the stove!" (and I'm not even THAT much of a cook)! But I do have a pot of chicken soup on the stove at this moment!

Our snow melted off once it was cleared off, but BOY was it HEAVY! I will definately be suffering tommorow! natt

natt...that is the most business my stove has seen in some time. But you are right, there is some internal instinct to put on a pot of something when it is snowing outside. We still have lots of snow here and tomorrow will be a sled day. Thank goodness I made all that food, won't have to cook tomorrow. LOL.

Verandah Man - you must be fairly close to me if you live across the river from the Phila airport. Glad you took the day off...it was nasty out there. No place for someone who works outside, that's for sure. Keep dreaming of sun, sand and tropical breezes. I am.

I made banana bread before I threw my back out shoveling....now I can hardly walk. If I had the ingredients a big pot of chili would have hit the spot!!

MJ

sandygirl,
I was reading your post earlier about your DD's school closed Th-F because of illness. I was just reading the Gloucester County Times about St. Mary's School being closed because of illness, could this be the same school?

Verandah Man - Yes, DD attends St Mary School. Isn't that something with that many schools closing? They let me know when I picked her up on Wed that they would be closed Thurs and Fri. Caused a slight panic in making arrangements for her at such short notice. I am the obsessive planner, I usually have most things covered.

Hope all are well in your neighborhood. So far my family has been fine. Maybe all this snow will kill off some germs. What do you think?

My mother in law always contended snow kills germs (she is a nurse) but if that is true that is ALL it is good for. I am SO SO sick of SNOW!!!! Cabin fever is setting in here in Western MA.!!!

Hi Snow Haters!! I just drove back from Boston..usually takes an hour at the most, it took us 4 hrs! We couldn't go any faster than 15 mph. At this point I feel that snow is ugly & evil, what a winter! On the bright side, we leave for WDW on Feb. 21 when the kids get out of school & our very 1st cruise Feb. 27 on the Wonder. It's great having that to look forward to & actually feel some sunshine. If you live in the south be smart & stay there. We will definitely be moving soon!

I sure hope so, my DW goes in Feb. 24th for hip replacement surgery and she can't afford to get sick now.
We live just outside of Woodbury.:p

Tell your wife our prayers are with her. Hope this winter ends quickly, we'll be looking @ houses in Florida! Have a nice evening!

cathie,

Thanks so much, she is in a "GREAT" deal of pain, and this cold snowy weather isn't helping matters either. My DW is only 48, but her left hip is full of arthritis. I know the pain she feels, two years ago I had a partial knee replacement, but I'm doing much better now since having the implants put in. Our doc says my DW should be feeling good as new by the time our cruise gets here.:D

Ok, I work at the college in my town, and we actually cancelled classes at 1pm, and the offices closed at 2pm... I finally left at 3pm... the snow was up to my knees when I went out to clean off my car, Ok I'm only 5' tall, but it was still deep!! There was 12 inches of snow on the cars and still coming down...so much for 6-9" as predicted!!

The town actually did a pretty decent job of plowing the main roads, and it only took me a few minutes to get home. But getting into my driveway was a different matter. The plow had come by so the snowbank at the end of my driveway was up to my butt!! so I trudged up to get my snowblower and cleared the driveway in a matter of 20 minutes.... I gave up the two hours of shoveling last year when my daughter bought me a snowblower for my birthday. Best birthday present I ever received seeing as I'm the one who is the "driveway clearer".

Then I went across the street and cleared my neighbors driveway so they could at least get in... He works in up in Worcester and had a LONG slow drive home, she was in Connecticut and was SO worried about the Mr. getting in the driveway!! He's not in the best of health and still smokes... yeah, I know!! SO I decided to be a good girl and clear them out, it took me about 10 minutes....My random act of kindness!! Luckily the snow is like powder and not wet and heavy like we usually get.

Good Luck everyone with the snow and just keep dreaming of 80's temperatures!!!
Jeanny :)

Yup, I live in the so-called "Winter Wonderland" too, but frankly, I don't see anything "wonderful" about it anymore :( I guess it's a good thing DH and I are putting the house on the market next month as our first step in relocating to Florida! Hopefully by next winter, we'll be far, far away from this white stuff (except for our holiday visit home of course). For now, I'll just sit here and dream of another trip on the Wonder... now that's what I consider a Winter WONDERland - LOL :p

I just received an e-mail from a friends of mine that are spending from January 'til April in Florida. They spent the day on the beach near Miami in 87 degree heat. When they got back to their son's house the air conditioner was running and their graddaughter was in the pool.:smooth:

Here we are shivering in the snow and cold, where is the justice???

Verandah Man-
Air conditioner, hmmmm! Let's just ship this cold air down there to them and then they can save on the electricity, and we'll be nice and warm up here :p Swimming in 87 degree heat, now that sounds nice. Just think, some people are on their way to a day at Castaway Cay tomorrow too! I can just picture the turquoise water, sand, sun, palm trees...oops, sorry I got lost for a minute there.

I'm starting to feel warm already, and I can feel the sand between my toes!
