Who else seems to experience this?

Fly or drive, regardless of season, the same 2 of my 4 always come back sick with UR stuff. This last trip, some of it had to do with the mold in the Quality Inn A/C unit where we were during the convention, but I think that weakened her immune system enough for the cold. Considering the number of bugs that are brought in from all over the world, I think it's a miracle we don't ALL get something. At least the little one didn't get food poisoning this trip! :stir: Also, I always get a "WDW Rash" on my feet and legs that typically requires a few stops at first aid throughout the trip for caldryl applications. :confused3 Still haven't figured that one out...

We have annual passes to Disneyland, and find quite often after a visit one or all of us come down with something. Think of the railings, tables, and lap bars that all have germs on them from thousands of people!

I always return with sinus problems after a WDW trip.

An RN recently told me that being dehydrated can mess with your sinuses badly and I realized I probably don't drink nearly as much water as I should (and normally do at home) with all the extra activity in the heat that we do there.

I also was told that Saline Nasal Spray is one of the best ways to guard against and assist in treating Sinus Infections. Keeping your Sinuses hydrated and flushed each morning and evening may reduce Sinus problems significantly. A cool mist humidifier also helps tremendously.

Another school of thought that has been in the news lately is that with the introduction of all of the anti-bacterial products that have come on the market over the last few years, there is a concern that we are actually causing bacteria to develop an immunity to these products as well as to conventional antibiotics. This may result in bacteria morphing into bigger and "badder" strains of bacteria causing people to actually become sicker with fewer antibiotic remedies. :confused3 :scared1:
This makes perfect sense. I try to drink water when here but dont drink as much as I should. We carry a Brita filter system, but even then the water doesnt taste that great. Need to start carrying bottled water again.

When we go, we take chlorox wipes and wipe everything down from the toilet, shower and the kitchen. We even put the tv remotes in ziplock
bags to prevent any problems there. I don't think those get cleaned very much. Purell and anti bacterial wipes after every ride help.
Germs live everywhere.
So sorry to hear about all the sickness many are experiencing. May all future trips to the Mickey Magical Wonderland be much healthier in the future! :)

Wow!!!!

I've been tough on WDW and DVC lately but blaming getting sick on WDW is going a little far.

For those that think WDW is causing them to get sick my best suggestion is to stop going. You won't be sick and complaining about it on a public forum that way.

I'm fighting a huge ear infection! Will be on the plane to WDW Dec. 15th! I blame my infection on the fact that I talked to DS in New Orleans just before Thanksgiving. He said he couldn't come for the family celebration because he had a bad earache. Darn Phone!! :rotfl: He's still fighting it, now with a new antibiotic, doesn't bode well for me, I guess.

Bobbi

PS. I hope we all get well and that we feel better soon!!!
We just got back from Jamaica, DH got a cold while we there, then I got it the day we left. It was a head cold. The flight was a killer. I was sure the pressure from the flight was going to cause my head to explode. My ears were hurting so bad my eyes were watering, making my head more stuffy and making the pressure worse. It has been 3 days and my ears still haven't popped from being on the plane, everything sounds like I have wads of cotton in my ears. I called the Dr today and got some meds to clear up the head cold. Hopefully, I will be back to normal very soon.

I hope that your ear infection is gone before you leave, especially if you are flying. Sending :goodvibes your way! Have a great time!

We do all of this as well but every trip someone leaves WDW sick. Unfortunately this time it is me. I can't seem to stop coughing and the congestion is horrid. It was very cold every evening we were there this past week.

My husband and I have a theory about this. We are both teachers and we always seem to be sick as soon as we get on a vacation or break. We think our bodies are finally able to "let down" for a few days, so the sickness takes over more easily.

When we are at WDW, our bodies are more relaxed and not constantly going, so we open ourselves up to getting sick.

I remember being in college and always being sick whenever breaks came around.

Anyone else?

I just had to delete the part about your ears exploding on the plane, because I still do feel (but now, only at times) that my head is full of cotton. My dr. must be very conservative regarding antibitics, now I'm told to wait another week before he wants to see me. OK... I can do this...we leave in 2 days, and I noted someone mentioned Sudafed, exactly what the dr. told me to take.

I wish for good health and happy holidays to all!

I just got home a few days ago and I feel fine...
:cough: :cough:
Oh no!

Actually, I always get sick during my winter Disney trips. I am getting over my 2006 Disney cold as I type. I think its the dreaded combination of all of those factors:
Lots of people crammed in a small place linee an airplane or car.
Cool weather
Not drinking enough water
Walking miles and miles through parks and pushing strollers to the point of exhaustion
Eating at all those restaurnats
Hotels
and all those kids, they are everywhere down there! and they are germ factories.

Too many oppurtunites to catch it. You can try to aviod 2 or 3 of these factors, but not all of them.

My Problem with WDW is there is just too much to do, and trying to cram it all in will always get you tired and run down and prone to sickness. and every year I say that next year we take it a little slower and treat it like a relaxing vacation, but that never happens.

Oh well, back to my Vitamin C and Allegra.

Any time you get thousands of people in one place and they are out of their element, you will have germs and sickness. It's part of living. We have returned and gotten colds a couple of times, but I have never flet the need to over sanitize myself either. I think we all have to build some immunity, and we can't do that by protecting ourselves constantly. Two of us got really sick in January at WDW, but we have had two other trips this year (including one that just ended yesterday), and everyone is fine. You could get the same thing Christmas shopping at the mall.

We're just back, and DS & I came home with bad colds, mine having developed into a nasty sinus infection. I'm absolutely ridiculous about handwashing, and wiping things down, so I'm not sure if it is avoidable at this point.

I'm a long-time sinus sufferer, so I know the drill. Before flying home, I blew my sinus out with saline solution. To do that properly (over the sink), you have to tilt your head to the side, completely horizontal, shooting the saline up the nostril on top (turn to the right, right nostril). If you're doing it right, fluid will come out the opposite nostril. Also, it hurts if you do it right, but it's very good for you. Hope that doesn't gross anyone out. My doctor has also suggested doing that in the shower. I also took some Afrin, Sudafed, and Excedrine (for the pain), and bought a huge bag of bubble gum--chewed it thoughout the flight. I wasn't without pain, but it was bearable. Next time, I take the saline with me to use prophylactically.

Bhahhh

We just flew home from WDW on Sunday and sure enough, I have a full blown cold. I have been a kindergarten teacher for 30 years and I thought I have built up an immunity over time but apparently not.

DH has a nasty eye infection, also.

I think my "illness' was courtesy of a seat partner on my flight who coughed and hacked all the way from MCO to BNA.

Blah...........

Us too. Got home on the 8th and started with a really nasty cold yesterday. Today isn't any better.

Though I attribute most of it to our "lovely" Ohio Valley weather. Cold one day, warm the next, cold the next, etc.

Hope you feel better soon! Well, I'm going to do my best not to spread the Ohio Valley stuff around Florida...we leave tomorrow, and I'm excited, and there feels like a wee bit less cotton in my ears tonight.

I may have been one of the people you saw last week leaving the bathrooms without washing hands. I feel like the kids made a 100 bathroom breaks.

I do not allow my kids to touch the sinks at all. Ever.. After we exit the bathroom we use the hand sanitizer.

Also I agree about the plane. I always bring lysol wipes and clean the seat arms, and tray table. I would rather look crazy then be sick.

We have never gotten sick while at WDW. We do always all get flu shots and I take clorox wipes and lysol to clean the room. We take vitamins every day. Other than that, I think it's just luck.

Got home recently and ds came home with the stomach flu. :( This happens on every December trip.

Do not laugh, I have this year taken the precaution of making a routine Dr. appointment for right after the first of the year, after we are home from the "world" I've been burned too many times having to be "fit" in LOL

This way best thing will be it'll just be my normal appointment, worst, I'll not have to call to be fit in.

I always get sick the first week of the new year no matte what. This year I have planned ahead.

Plane trips seem to be our common denominator for post-vacation colds. Our son's ENT doctor has always recommended nasal sprays shortly before flight, and that certainly has helped avoid ear infections since we all have allergies --being congested is a fact of life. Saline sprays are wonderful, too!

I think the only time we've definitely come home with something which I could trace back to contracting at WDW was quite a few years ago when DH was diagnosed with a nasty eye infection during our stay there. (He used to have the habit of rubbing his eyes a lot -- never a good thing after being in public places, since your hands touch turnstyles, doors, the queue barricades in all the different rides, etc. Since that experience, he really doesn't rub his eyes too much anymore, lol.)
